City beach

Lake Michigan was like bath water tonight! I dipped my toe into it expecting it to fall off from frostbite, but I was surprisingly pleased! It was so warm! I told Brett that if I had brought a towel, I would have totally dove in - clothes and all! Right at the beginning of summer, the water still has a little bit of seaweed from the winter season, so I'm really excited for it to naturally filter itself and then I can go swim! I adore swimming in Lake Michigan. It's the best experience ever. Fresh water, so clean, refreshing on hot summer days, but swimming at sunset is my favorite, especially during the end of summer when the waves get huge!

It sprinkled for two seconds and so we quickly headed to the beach to grab some shots, but it didn't continue and the sun was peeking through the clouds. It was so pretty. I loved the atmosphere down by the water tonight. I brought shoes, but I'm just caught barefoot most of the time in summer here. Did you know that walking through the sand is a natural exfoliant for your feet? (I tell my good friend Peter that every year and he responds with, "Tieka, did you know the human head weighs an average of 8 lbs?") Hehe! Don't ask; we're weird!

This is another dress I've been holding hostage since April. And it's one of my favorite dresses too. I love the buttons up the front, the cinched waist and the open back. It's a perfect length too - I really love it. And of course, floral print. Gawsh, you're all like.. Tieka.. we get it.. you like floral print. Move on. Hehe! I had a matching headband I haven't worn yet and went with it! Simple and easy! I was browsing through my spring outfits thinking it was my favorite season yet for style options. Spring and fall. I'm wondering how summer will be now. It's so exciting to see how my style changes for the seasons!

(what's in a name rosy dress - c/o shop ruche | wallet, headband - urban outfitters)

I've gotten so many compliments on my crazy, wavy hair! Thank you, guys! I can't stand it! Haha! I need a new blowdryer - immediately. It's out of control. Some of my outtake photos were like.. whoa.. flashback to the 70's! Totally Farrah Fawcett style! I don't mind a few waves, but man oh man! I get a lot of requests to go curly and I just don't know if I can do it. It's so terrible looking on me! I loveeee girls with curly hair, but I just cannot pull it off! I have no idea how I got boyfriends in high school. Seriously, I was a disaster! Haha!

So pretty! I wish I lived closer to the lake, the closest lakes around here are in Madison and they are just nasty dirty. I do get to enjoy going in the Wisconsin River when it's down.

I love how your headband matches your floral dress so perfectly! It looks like it was made to go with this dress.

Tieka your so cute, and your hair looks amazing like that don't think otherwise. I used to not like my hair curly as much, but the more I wore it curly, the more I loved it. And now I feel weird with straight hair.. haha! I also love this dress for I am a huge fan of floral print (I hope noone gets tired of me wearing it either!)

I love the dress its beautiful. I wish I lived a short driving distance from the beach. I've never been to a fresh water beach. Must be so much better for your skin! The salt water in California is so harsh!

Oh, girl, the waves look amazing on you! Don't be silly. And this comes from me, a girl who spends forever taming her curls every day... sigh. We always want what we don't have when it comes to hair.

I love love love this outfit, though -- so simple, so pretty! Perfect for the beach. But aren't you afraid you're gonna lose your clutch in the water? :O

BEAUTIFUL! I want to visit Lake Michigan now!!

I'm glad you didn't dive in - you would have ruined such a perfect outfit!

Then again, how liberating it would be to throw it all to the wind and bask a something so fresh and natural.

Lovely photos!!

My favourite time is frolicing down on the beach at around sunset when it's overcast or a little bit rainy, it's just beautiful.
Thankyou again!

I won't set foot in the chicago side of lake michigan - I have seen some three eyed fish swimming around ... but the Michigan side looks lovely. enjoy the summer!

i love your waves, they look so cool. my hair used to be like that and i was happy but now it has decided to have no shape at all. it isn't wavy anymore but it's neither straight. it's a nightmare!!

Miss Froulita, the Common Suspect said...

i love your wavy hair!! since mine are straight to death(means no volume and no other options, they go back to straight from crazy curly in like 2 hours so i have cut going to the hairdresser's)do not change them, at least for summer! straight hair is more wintry, summer is for curls and waves!!
btw, i love every dress you have, especially the floral ones!! so keep posting flowery outfits!! love them!

I have that dress! I actually wore it for the first time last Friday. I love it, but I struggle with what kind of bra to wear. I ended up just wearing a bra and let it show a la Carrie Bradshaw. It's so weird when you see your clothes on other people, lol.

Love the way the sunrays peek through the clouds. I hear you on the hair dilemma. When my last hairdryer died I drove to the mall that same night to buy a new one. I like waves but hate frizz, and it seems I can't have one without the other so need to blowdry every day. If I had Andrea's hair I'd totally wear it as she does though.

I am jealous that your part of Lake Michigan is cleaner/clearer than our side :( Nonetheless I still love swimming in the lake too.

I love your dress! I have curly hair, and I can't stand it most of the time. During the summer when its humid outside my hair gets ten times thicker and frizzy and I look like a lion, unless I put crazy amounts of product in it.

There is also a website deticated to helping curlies! Check them both out the advice is awesome although different from what I thought I should be doning to take care of my hair!

It's kinda funny to read your thoughts about Lake Michigan since I lived in Chicago for 9 years and the lake seems very different on that side. I LOVE sunsets over water, which I only got to see over LM once when visiting your side of the pond, so to speak :)

I love any kind of water body, and with the weather like this in the east cost all hot and humid all I want to do is grow gills.

Love the dress and the headband Tieka. You look precious. I think you look prettier with wavy hair than straight hair. Very cute.

It's silly but I sort of rub sand on my legs when I'm at the beach. I just think it exfoliates all the rough dead skin cells too. Haha!

The little wallet is perfect. I haven't found a good wallet for me yet. I'm still stuffing my money into this little alligator purse (a soft toy!). It's quite embarassing.

Your dress and hair look lovely. :) That's the beauty of blogging, isn't it? Bad hair pictures...deleted!
