Parks and playgrounds

It is a well known fact that Brett and I love playing on playgrounds! They are so much fun - to swing on the swings, to slide down the slides, to spin on those really fast spinning things and then feel really sick afterwards. Hehe, so fun! Especially if you find those awesome playgrounds with the little speakers that travel to the other speaker. Brett and I will sit there and just say dorky things to each other. Ah, it's fun to be kids. I'm almost 24 and I'm still a little kid. He's almost 26 and he's even more of a little kid!

Last weekend, I was thrifting and saw these old granny shorts and thought, you know. These are actually really cool right now - so I bought them and a baby blue pair! A year ago, I would have thought I was crazy wearing these - but they are so comfortable, perfect for riding the scoot and playing on playgrounds! I hiked them up as high as they could go - the higher, the better! I received this dress for a swap in the Delightful Dozen through Maria of Lulu Letty! If you haven't heard yet, Maria is our new member of the Delightful Dozen, so be sure to check out our page for the side-by-side photos and updated on everything going on in the DD!

Brett was like, "Hang upside down!" and I wasn't sure if I could still do it! I honestly haven't hung upside down since I was a kid - it's a lot more tough when you get older! He's the master at all things hanging. He always beats me at chicken fight and can always cross the monkey bars when I can't even make it past two of them! In the winter, we made a winter video of us and he totally took me down on the monkey bars! He's supposed to pretend to let me win, right?! We really need to make a spring video of us doing something typical in marriage again! I like videos! I'm working on a makeup tutorial video right now!

I'm getting my wisdom teeth out on Friday morning and I'm so nervous. Like.. awful feeling nervous. I've never been put under before and I've never broken a bone, had any type of surgery, or stitches, or sprained anything. I've never even really had a deep cut or a huge bruise or anything. I'm a wuss! I just want Friday morning to be over with! Give me good-case scenarios guys! I need encouragement. Brett keeps giving me gory details. Jerrrk! Thanks everyone for your amazing comments lately - I'm trying to play catch up! I might disappear after Friday morning for a while depending on how I feel! Wish me luck!

Aw, I really love the photo where it's just your hand on your belly. It looks like you're laughing hard! You'll be fine with your wisdom tooth op. Positive thoughts & good karma coming across the ocean to you :]

you look gorgeous Tieka! I used to teach pre-K, so I share the love of playgrounds too!

Oooh, I had my first surgery (on my wrist) in February and I was so nervous too. But once you get the anesthesia, it's like the best sleep of your life! For me it was at least. You'll be absolutely fine...and you'll get to eat lots of ice cream after! (Plus, is this not a perfect excuse to have Brett wait on you ;])

Don't worry Tieka, it's not bad! It's over in a jiffy I promise. I was scared too! You'll be fine! You may have chipmunk cheeks for a while though!

These pictures are so cute! My husband and I are in our 30s, but we still occasionally play on the playground.

Good luck getting your wisdom teeth out! I still haven't had mine removed, but I hear it's not so bad.

Aw, I'm sure you'll be fine! I got my wisdom teeth taken out a couple years ago (you're pretty old to be getting them out now, aren't you? lucky you haven't had any problems with them), and it was much worse emotionally than physically. My face was a little swollen and my jaw was a little tender, but nothing ever really hurt.

For me the worst part was right after coming home from the operation! I had these bloody tissues in my mouth, and I was still a little frozen, so I couldn't really eat or drink properly, and since I don't like blood and what-not, I just sat blubbering and crying and feeling sorry for myself. :) I am a wuss! (And don't worry, the feeling passed quickly anyway!)

and don't be too nervous for getting your wisdom teeth removed. you won't feel a thing and when you wake up you'll be done!

I love the granny shorts...they look so comfy. And the wisdom teeth are no big deal. The best part is the stories everyone will tell you of the funny things you said while going under. I remember feeling like I was floating above my body! Just make sure you get a pain med that doesn't upset your stomach.

Vanessa said...

Love the granny shorts! I had a pair a really long time ago, and sadly got rid of them. I wish I could have them back :/ Oh, and as far as getting your wisdom teeth pulled, it's really not so bad. I had all four of mine pulled - they were compacted, so it was pretty serious oral surgery. Honestly, you'll be a little sore for a bit after the numbness wears off, but that's about it. The worst part is eating because you feel so fragile, haha. You'll do just fine!

Jennifer said...

Don't worry about getting your wisdom teeth out! I was TERRIFIED of getting mine out.. I let them get so bad I couldn't even open my mouth up all the way anymore! Once you get there, you get put out by the anesthesia so quick, you barely know what's happening. I asked for them to give me nitrous before they put the needle in, and that really helped a lot. Good luck.. Be sure to get plenty of soup and movies ready before hand!

Style_Pursuit said...

Oh, don't worry Dear!!! I had the same surgery about a month ago - a piece of cake! You'll be fine!
Just love, love, loooving this outfit! :o)

You guys are too adorable for words! Gawd I need to find myself a Brett, it just looks sad playing in parks by yourself lol!

And don't worry about the teeth, I got all of mine out a few years ago and it was a breeze. I woke up, felt a little groggy, slept for a day and then was all good! Good luck! xx

Such wonderful photos! I just went to a playground the other day and was luckily able to make it across the monkey bars (thanks P90X!)... I remember it being much easier when I was little. I don't even want to think about trying to hang upside-down!

tieka! :) These shorts are so amazing..they look great on you! I need to get another pair of grandma shorts. Aw, I love how you and Brett are like big kids. I just find that the cutest thing. I will get nathan to take me to a playground this weekend! :) I just got back from the ship tour..but only for three weeks! Its nice to be home for a little while. A bit of encouragement about your wisdom teeth : you cant feel a thing until after the fact - and I was the exact same way, never had anything done, but just tell the doctors that you are scared and they will be extra gentle..and besides, you get to eat jello for a week afterwards! :) Good luck pretty. x

Tieka! I had my wisdom teeth out in March. It's seriously not that bad. I've been put under a few times, and I actually kind of find it fun...call me weird that's fine.. haha but you don't feel a thing and you don't remember the surgery at all, being put 'under' is a total breeze. My mouth didn't hurt all that bad! I was just eating a lot of broth, jello, popsicles cut up and juice. that's actually kind of fun. i'd say the worst part is the holes that are left over and even then that's not that bad. i understand that you're nervous but you'll be so great, and then you'll be able to say...i've had surgery...haha. Good luck!

Ah, those granny shorts rock! I think you really made them great with the floral top/dress! *LOVE*

Don't worry about your wisdom teeth! There a cinch! I had mine taken out when I was 20 and it's the only surgery/broken bone/scary health thing I've ever really had to deal with. And just remember, those oral sureons do it all the time :) Plus, you get to eats lots of popsicles and such! Woo!

Good Luck!

I love how you've styled the dress!

Also, to echo the last comment, I had my wisdom teeth out last summer - they were impacted and crazy.. haha but? I went in - they knocked me out totally, next thing I know I'm headed home with my mom. I was very lucky and had no bruising or swelling.. really the worst thing is those holes that are left behind, not because they hurt so much as that it's yucky having to clean them out.. haha Ick! But don't worry! You'll be fine - I'm sure

Oh my gosh I LOVE these photos!! You guys are so cute Tieka!! Meanwhile, don't feel nervous about your teeth - it will be okay!! I had mine out 3 years ago and I was so scared of being put under, but it all turned out ok! Plus you'll have Brett to look after you :)

Those shorts are hot! I love and want them, they look great with the dress too, cool way to style it.

I got my top two wisdoms out a month ago, I won't lie, it was so not fun, I mean it never actually hurt cause I was so drugged up it just felt grose and takes time to get used to. I have to get my bottom two out soon. Don't worry, you'll be fine!

aliciafashionista said...

Love this outfit Tieka, the ruffle dress as a top is adorable!
I am the same as you and have never had broken bones or stitches or anything of the sort, so I was JUST as scared to have my wisdom teeth out. But turns out being put under wasn't bad at all and because you're so drugged up, the pain afterwards is very tolerable. I also looked great after being no a jello diet for 3 days LOL
Good luck, I'm sure it'll be fine and Brett can take care of you :)

Sounds like so much fun!
My advice:
1)Get a pair of old pantyhose and stuff some ice packs into them then tie that around your face. They say to do 20min on/off with ice, but if you don't want chipmunk cheeks leave it on more.
2) Milkshakes (no straws) lots and lots of milkshakes.
3) When you get tired of jello and pudding and other sweet soft things, have a quiche with tiny cut-up soft veggies it will taste so goo and give you protein.
Hope it goes well!

Your hair looks so much darker... I love it! I know it's been gradually coming to this place but today is the first time it's hit me. I love the upside down pictures. I hung from my legs as an adult and I'm with you. It was scary! Oh and don't be afraid. For me, the worst part is waking up. But there are nurses there to talk you through it. It'll be over before you know it!

The playing in the park sounds fun, not the surgery, although that kind of positive attitude may help, lol!

so i've been reading your blog for quite some time and don't really comment ever, but i do love seeing all of your pictures and outfits - they're always so cute!

but reading about your wisdom teeth, i thought i would share a good story! i had to get 3 of mine out (the other one got taken out in a different way.. long story lol) and was being put under. it was the first time i was put under too and i was terribly terribly nervous. it all went really really well for me, though. the thing that hurt the most was when i woke up my throat was really dry and it was hard to swallow. by the time i got home, that had gone away, and i was basically fine. i never took the vicodin they gave me, i just stuck to a strict regiment of children's motrin (...i'm really really small, so i take children's medicine lol), and was eating most food within 3 days.
i'm not sure if i just got super lucky, but i really had no problems at all! if you have any bleeding that doesn't seem to slow down after a few minutes, wet a tea bag, and don't chew on it, but sort of try to bite down on it where you got them out. for some reason, not all dentists seems to tell people this but it is a life saver!
good luck! i hope you have as good of an experience as i did! i would honestly prefer getting them out than having cavities filled - much easier!

i got my wisdom tooth removed last summer and was put under. The first 2 days were bad.i had to eat mushy food only (oh the horror!! :D ). After that it was fine! I stuck to the tylenol for the pain and that was enough.

Good luck! and stock up on the ice cream and mashed potatoes!

Regarding the wisdom teeth, you really have nothing to worry about. I actually just got mine out today - weird coincidence! For my appointment, the last thing I remembered was my mom kissing me goodbye and when I woke up, I was back at home. There will be some swelling and bleeding after, but it's tolerable. Don't worry! You'll be just fine!

Well first of all I LOVE your new header! You look so beautiful! :) And the ruffles, goodness I die for ruffles. They're seriously cute.

As for the wisdom teeth, I had mine taken out in high school and was in the same boat. I had never been put under and hadn't (still haven't) broken anything, I faint at the sight of needles, etc. But when I went in I fell asleep really quickly, and when I woke up I was still feeling all drugged up and got my drugs for the ride home (holla!) so I don't remember it being painful or scary. In fact, I remember telling my boyfriend over and over that I knew he was going to leave me because I had total chipmunk cheeks. Being in a drugged up state is good my friend. It will be completely fine :)

This post is so freaking cute! I love you in the granny shorts, and the two of you hanging upside down is ADORABLE. :3

And don't be worried about your wisdom teeth! In high school I had SO MANY different operations inside my mouth. Like 4 or 5 pulled teeth, jaw surgery, braces, you name it. I've only been put under once, but it was seriously a breeze. The worst, in my opinion, is being awake while they're yanking at your teeth. You'll feel wonky afterwards, but as long as you keep taking painkillers, it should be fine! It won't be anything like what I had to go through with jaw surgery. No worries, girl!

And about the wisdom teeth thing... I had my shoulder opperated on when I was 15 and I was extremely nervous about going under too but the doctors were really nice and it only took a few seconds to fall asleep. The surgery was kinda long and aparently (gah, i cant spell that word...) I woke up during it but I didnt even remember waking up afterwards. It felt like it went by very quickly as well. So I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck though!

No worries girl! I got all four of mine taken out and it was so fine. I went under (my first time too) and woke up later that day back home with my mommy taking care of me! I pretty much slept for the first 24 hours and it was great. She woke me up for medicine and to change my wraps (be careful for dry sockets!)
You will be just fine :)

You look amazing! But I honestly don't think you could ever not look that way. I am so so jealous of your thrift store shorts find, that is the one section in thrift stores I am still extremely intimidated by!

Also, you'll be fine tomorrow!!! I had my wisdom teeth out a couple of years ago and I am just like you, I've never been hurt or anything before. My wisdom teeth had grown in all kinds of crazy upside down ways too. But it was fine!! I also am DEATHLY afraid of shots/IV's (like the dentist would prescribe me some strong 'calming' to take before appointments!)

Put your husband to work making you squishy foods to eat, that is what they're there for, right?

Aww Tieka! Don't be scared about your wisdom teeth! I was SO nervous and it was a breeze. When my doc got the anesthesia going, he told me to count backwards from 10 and I was out! Next thing I knew, I was waking up and my mouth was full of gauze! My surgeon knew I was really nervous so he gave me valium to take an hour before the procedure and that helped enormously. Maybe you could ask your doctor to do the same? The pain wasn't too bad afterwards and I didn't even take any strong painkillers, I stuck with ibuprofen the entire time! One piece of advice I will give you is: ice your cheeks AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE the first day! I kept frozen peas on my cheeks for hours after the procedure and my face didn't swell at all. Some of my friends turned into chipmunks after having their wisdoms out, but you really can prevent that if you're diligent with the icing.

GOOD LUCK!
I will keep you in my thoughts on Friday!!!

Haha, love the outfit, love the playground and love the upside down shots! You should hang the two of them in your house like the couple in Juno but WAY COOLER!
I've had my wisdom teeth out, I quite enjoyed the experience - except for the puffy bruised face afterwards.

Gracie said...

(When I say I enjoyed the experience, I just mean the laying around on pain killers not having to do anything - I'm not a sadist!)

kate said...

Everyone's experience is super different. I was really lucky when I got mine taken out (all 4 at once, 3 were impacted). I didn't do anything special, I just followed my doctors orders. Had them taken out at 3pm and managed to eat a McDonald's cheeseburger at 7pm that night! Almost no swelling. I even went into work the next day!

Morgan and Lua said...

Hey Tieka! Your hair is really getting dark, I think you look great as a brunette!

I completely understand being freaked out about going 'under'. I think for wisdom teeth they use more of a twilight sedation which is much safer and easy to monitor. When I got mine out the most frustrating part was when my friends came over the next day and all I wanted to do was laugh, but it hurt too much!
I had my first real full blown surgery last May and I was so scared. My biggest worry was the anesthesia. You really have to trust that they know what they're doing (which they do). Just try to take it in stride and wear it as a little badge of honor. Yeah I have stitches in my mouth, so what, I'm a badass. Like that. ha.

Good luck!! You'll do fine.

it wasn't bad at all. they even had to make an incision in my cheek to get back far enough, and it really wasn't bad. take the pain meds, let brett dote on you and eat ice cream. you'll be fine. the only thing i can say is that i was really out of it and not myself for two weeks after. but now, totally better! :D

oh, and my boyfriend has a pretty hilarious video of me waking up from the anesthesia! haha!

Aww, don't fret. I was the same way, never undergoing surgery or any sort of medical procedure and I was absolutely TERRFIIED. I am like you as far as no broken bones or surgeries or stitches until i got my wisdom teeth out, and for me the only thing I had to complain about was that they wouldn't let me eat and my appointment wasn't until like 1pm. You'll be okay with the wisdom teeth. Never take a man's opinion when it comes to pain. Women can take more pain then men! (its a proven scientific fact) lol.

It just sometimes hurts when they inject your with the needle but ask them to put numbing gel on the area first and that helps reduce the pain by a lot.

Afterwards you will feel sore. Kinda like you do after you work out with weights and stuff except in your mouth.

I hope that helps! Good luck! : )

Apparently I tried to make contact with someone who also got their teeth out next to me, and my brother hit on the pretty nurse. XD

First off I love this post just as I am hopelessly in love with every other post. Eek your style, personality and life in general is a daily pick-me-up. Now onto the wisdom teeth,I got mine out a few months ago, I was pretty darn lucky. I just had one wisdom tooth and they were able to do it with less Novocaine than they use for cavities. But my two sisters had the normal four and were put under. My older sister who hates needles and all things hospitals did fine, she even got those dry socket things and hardly made a fuss, which is saying a lot. Honestly you'll be fine, wisdom teeth are a blessing from the ice cream and frozen yogurt gods to indulge in their creamy goodness 24/7, also people feel really bad for you, you may guilt trip at the smallest whim, it's kind of amazing.
Best of luck! Sorry, this is creepily long.

I haven't had my wisdom teeth out but I did have a surgery on my mouth where they had to attach chains to teeth that were stuck up in my gums. (Yeah it sounds gross and it kinda was) But it didn't hurt a bit and before I knew it I was done and leaving to go home. I got to drink lots of smoothies, so I would say it wasn't so bad!

you look adorable! I have a playground right around the corner from me and I LOVE going! It's one of my fav things (and it's the park I grew up at!). Don't worry AT ALL about tomorrow! I was so nervous too but it happens so fast. Just talk to the nurses and the next thing you now it's over!

I think I'm a bit too short to pull off those shorts, but on you (and with that frilly blouse) they look adorable! That ring is pretty fantastic too. ;)

Happy Friday!

Cute! Loving the green flats. I had an obsession with green a while back. You're making me want to go back to my old ways.

I feel obligated as the scientist in the room to point out that Kate is completely right...everyone's experience is different. Most have a day or two of pain and swelling and it goes away and things are fine. Others have a completely horrid time that ruins the next few months of their life (that'd be my experience). Probabilistically, you'll be perfectly fine and back in no time...but I remembered my miserable fall of my senior year of high school especially well because everyone said "oh it'd be fine! don't worry about it!" Frankly, I wanted to punch them in the face.

Just wanted to give you the other side of things...also, I have a couple pretty rad jello recipes I wanted to pass along:

Red Hot Cinnamon Jello

Originally from my grandma

Ingredients

1 cup boiling water
¼ cup red hots
3 oz cherry jello (normal box – NOT the no-calorie kind)
1 ½ cups apple sauce

Instructions

1. Melt red hots in water and stir
2. Mix cherry jello in hot water/red hot solution until dissolved
3. Mix in apple sauce (double recipe for 9x13 pan)
4. Chill. Keep in the fridge.

Layered rainbow jello salad

2 (3 oz.) boxes cherry Jello
2 (3 oz.) boxes orange Jello
2 (3 oz.) boxes lemon Jello
2 (3 oz.) boxes lime Jello
2 (3 oz.) boxes blackberry Jello
(note: pick whatever colors you want---these amounts give you enough for a rainbow with jello and opaque jello layers - see here for a picuture of what it looks like: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/30/61079235_fcd9c539dc.jpg)
3 3/4 cup Carnation milk

This salad fits well in a 9 1/2 x 13 1/2 Tupperware cake tote. Grease bottom of Tupperware container with Pam. Start a day ahead making this salad as each layer must set. Be sure pan is level in refrigerator so each layer sets evenly (haha yes! My fridge is not. Makes for funny jello salad, but it still tastes good!).

1. Mix 1 box of cherry Jello with 3/4 cup hot water, then 3/4 cup of cold water. Pour into pan, and let set in the fridge

2. Mix 1 box of cherry Jello with 3/4 cup hot water, then instead of using cold water, use 3/4 cup Carnation milk. Pour into pan, and let set in the fridge.

3. Repeat Step 1 and Step 2 with the remaining four flavors. You will have 10 layers of Jello, but very thin as to reflect rainbow

Other ideas for food are risotto, macaroni and cheese (very cheesy with lots of milk, no bread crumbs, and use a blender to mix yogurt and milk for a light yogurt drink that gets you all those antibiotic-combating good bacteria).

Best of luck, lady!

I don't have any gorey wisdom teeth details to give you because I'm a lucky member of the "i never got and will never get my wisdom teeth" club! sorry :/

But you look FABULOUS in these pics! I love it when Brett is in your photo shoots and you guys are doing fun things! Sooo cute!

Good luck with your surgery! I'm sure everything will go smoothly. Some of my friends have gotten theirs pulled, and they all look like chipmunks afterwards! Haha. Anyway, all these pictures are adorable! I love those grandma style bermuda shorts. Great idea to pair them with that ruffley dress. I also love the color of your flats!

ohh i LOVE granny shorts. anything granny related really. they know where it's at! these look fantastic on you. i love that fashion is moving back to a more "modest" look - lots of menswear and granny inspired stuff. it just makes it fun and care-free again. yay!

don't worry to much about the wisdom teeth - it's over before you know it. try to fall asleep when they put you under, you won't feel a thing. as for the healing process, drink lots of smoothies and don't eat too soon! :)

Adults are just big kids. It's nice when we have the chance to explore the "kid in us". The photos reflect a free spirit and someone who enjoys life. And by the way, I do like the shorts and your top is amazing. Thank you for you blog, as I always look forward to your daily posts.

Yay! I loooove playgrounds! I work at a school (teaching special ed) and every day I want to swing with the kids but I don't think I'm supposed to! However, we took my class to a park on the last day of school and I got to have races down the slides, and we played with those awesome speaker thingies! It was so cute, one of my favorite little girls got so excited to hear me and yelled "Laurla! It's Rhianna, Laurala! Lets play! Come play!!" super cute.

p.s. love the braid and your shoes and the dress turned shirt! i'd love that as a shirt or a dress!!

You look like a mom scolding her children in the third photo, like you're thinking, "Okay, don't do that," but thinking it was pretty funny anyways.

I love playgrounds, as well. I think it's quite a deal breaker in a relationship if he thinks I'm weird for wanting to go to the park down the street at 3 AM to swing.

I recently thrifted my first pair of granny shorts, and was nervous about it, but I'm SO glad I did. I love the, and now I've got two pairs! You look lovely, as always, dear! Annie.
