A vintage walk

It feels like summer is ending! The atmoshere has that "summer-ending" feel to it and we're just in July! It's strange. We've had some colder temperatures lately. Like, right now, it's 67 degrees! Granted, it is night-time. And I do live on the lake, so we get lake effect, but still. That's cold for July! We have our air conditioning blaring right now and it's so cold in the living room! I need to get up and turn it off, but I'm too lazy. It's 2:35 AM and I'm just now finally posting. I thought about sleeping, but decided against it. I'm going to try and pull an all-nighter. Too much to do!

I bought this vintage paper umbrella last spring from our antique mall for so cheap. I absolutely love it! It's so pretty! I can imagine bringing this down to the beach to block the shade - in vintage style! I usually don't buy a whole lot of vintage for my own wardrobe, but I absolutely love vintage-inspired clothing. Finding things like this are so fun too because they inspire new outfits (and make my photos look pretty!)

(kensie dress - idee geniale via delightful dozen | sandals, headband, necklace - urban outfitters

I need a simple, perfect LBD like this! I don't have one. Well, I have a couple.. but one has lace at the top, the other is super scandalously short.. and.. I think that's it. I loved this one! The detailing down the front is so pretty, but very subtle! I love styling clothes up in the Delightful Dozen, but I never want to return the clothes to their rightful owners! I'm actually trying to play catch up with DD swaps right now because I'm sooo behind. I feel so bad about holding girl's clothes hostage in my closet!

Well, you can tell it was muggy. My hair is a disaster! I've been thinking about highlights or dying it all brown. I'm not sure. My Aveda color karma says to go dark brown. My obsession with Eve Gravel's fall/winter 2010/11 line's model is forcing me to go back blonde. Life is so tough! I think I'll stay ombre. I don't know if I want to make a change before NYFW or not! I hateee hair. It's so annoying. Maybe I'll just keep growing it out to my natural color so that way I'm not blonde, I'm not dark brown. I'm a little bit of both! Well, I'm off. To clean our apartment! At 2:46 AM! Edit: I'm going to bed, I give up. I'm an old lady!

Haha, glad to know I'm not the only one awake! I know what you mean about it feeling like summer's ending; it has still been really hot here since we're further from the lake, but I have to start thinking about school starting again. Eek!

Anyway, I really think these are some of your best photos yet. So, so lovely, Tieka! I adore that parasol. :)

Now, get some sleep! Hehe.

I always expect your photos to be stunning but I'm pretty you have excelled yourself with these ;) haha. These are amazing, and that parasol!!

I love the dress and how you styled it! It looks beautiful on you. I need a simple LBD too.

That parasol is the real star here! Well, besides the actual star, y'know. It's your co-star, how about that? Is it bad that I'm already dreading the end of summer in the slightest? I'll miss long hot days and staying up very late with not too bad of consequence (like right now! yay). :)

I think that umbrella is just so lovely! And the dress, with the brown is so nice too! I don't understand why people dont like black and brown together!

The outfit and the pictures are just amazing! :)

absolutely love these photos of you! the parasol is so cute and pretty, and I love how mysterious you look with the curls and the headband. love this!

the first picture is amazing!
about the hair: it looks stunning in these pictures, especially with the hairband. The colour you have suits you very well, but if you want to dye it, I'd say go with the brown :) After all, brunettes do have more fun.. :)

Good to know I'm not the only one wandering around the internets past midnight. ;)

I love your natural hair color! But you'd look so pretty with a dark brown; it would bring out your lovely skin, and your eyes I think. However, you should obviously do what feels right!

I'm loving that parasol; it reminds me of the one Kaylee uses in the first episode of Firefly (a show you should definitely watch if you haven't already). And I love how your hair looks when it's all wavy!

I like your sandals. They are so pretty!

If I ever dyed my hair, I'd be in a bind too. I could never dye it though because I feel like it's already dry as it is. :) Your hair looks so cute and fluffy in these photos. Did you do anything with it?

The paper umbrella matches your belt nicely.I'd like to see it with more colorful dresses in the future.

ps. You're brave to step into that tall grass. I'd be scared for snakes!

I had to do a double check when I read the time in your post because it's 2:40 am here! I was wondering what kind of super powers you had to be in the future.

I love vintage accessories...they're so much easier for me to find than vintage clothing. So I just love your little parasol; it's romantic.

Ha, how funny! I took some pics with my parasol over the weekend too- great minds! Your photos have come out really well!

I'm always changing my mind about my hair - for the first time ever i've gone natural but I tend to flip between brown and blonde!

I just adore your photographs, they always compliment the outifts and the settings so well. Do you use a filter for your pictures? If so, what one? Or is it just some camera magic I do not know about??

I really like your parasol, it is stunning. :3

You are just too cute for words! :)

...and I've never dyed my hair, so I'm a bit biased, but I'm happy with it how mine is. Hair-dying is just so personal---even with the advice of smart-hair-people, there are so many opinions to be had! I like my dark brown, that's for sure!

Hey Tieka, Do you know where I can buy that Kensie dress online? Im in Ireland. Thanks!

Vanessa said...

So funny that you mention the weather feeling that way, as I just had this conversation with a few friends - "this weather reminds me of going back to school." Never thought I would miss school, but this fall-like weather makes me want to get back in the classroom so bad!

katierosered said...

I feel just like you with my hair right now! My hair is half red and half red with blonde highlights. I love it ombre. I dont want full highlights again yet my plain dark red hair is so blah. LOL. It's so hard! I dont know what to do!!

anyways, I love these pics A LOT!! I love the vintage effect to them!and that umbrella is super cute! I'm never lucky with finding anything cute at antique malls and thrift stores. =(

Really gorgeous photos!!! Love the dress, and I totally agree with everyone else on the weather. And I love Matt Pond PA, I see you're a fan too :-) Now, I want a paper umbrella!!!

Haha Tieka you sound like me!
My hair always winds me up i'm trying to get the perfect waves at the moment and I'm going crazy. I also went blonde the other week and I hated it so much I've just wacked a brown on it.
You look beautiful as always. x

Tieka sleep is good! lol you look wonderful! Your hair looks pretty like that :)

How long did it take you to grow out the color? I am going to grow mine out, I fried the ends when I tried to put in color so now I want to see what the natural color would be.

I didn't get any sleep last night so I know how you are feeling except I didn't have anything to keep me busy. You look beautiful and I love how simply this dress is.

I've always wanted one of those vintage umbrellas.

I think your natural hair color is lovely and suites your complexion very well! But if you want a bit of a change, maybe you should do some highlights right now to take you through the end of summer and go dark in the fall! (sometimes if you go darker in the summer it can turn brassy/icky due to all the sun you get on fun summer adventures!)

Chloe Trayner said...

I adore this outfit Tieka! You always manage to pull it out of the bag. I need a LBD too, they're always so elusive. Lovely umbrella find, I've always wanted one of those. Stay Ombre!!

The first and last pictures are absolutely stunning. There is definitely a vintage feeling in all of your pictures. May I ask how you put that effect on them? Anyway, I think I need a paper umbrella in my life.

Awh, I love these photos, the paper umbrella just makes the entire set! That black dress is awesome too... such a great not-so-basic basic!

Also, I think we have pretty much the same hair colour and I'm right there with you- I have NO IDEA what to do with it! lol It's not blonde but not brown and I don't know which way to go! I think I might just do it half and half- the ombre hair look! Can't wait to see what you decide, maybe it will give me some inspiration!

That brown belt is such a wonderful accent to the LBD. I love mixing the two colors.

Also I can't believe you bought your headband at UO - I just did a post about how to make one exactly like that (flower and all!). See it here: http://ordinarilyurbane.com/2010/07/23/how-to-make-your-own-braided-headband-in-six-easy-steps/
