First signs of autumn

Well, autumn is here! Signs were showing in Michigan several weeks ago, but it finally feels real now. The nights are getting darker earlier, trees are changing everywhere, leaves are falling, the air is cool - it's perfection. I absolutely love this season. It's really strange right now though because this is the first fall where I haven't returned to school! I am really missing it too - maybe I'll have to go back to Kendall and major in their new fashion program? ;)

Life has been a little crazy lately. My entire website was deleted somehow the other night, so I have rebuilt that, but my shop is down currently. It's on my to-do list to put back up immediately, so bear with me! I'm also looking anywhere and everywhere for a job. I'd absolutely love to find something in the Grand Rapids area, but at this point, Brett and I are willing to move. I feel like graphic design jobs are so scarce right now and the ones that are available are extremely competitive. I mean - I have a bachelor's degree in interactive design, I'm even better at graphic design and I'm self taught in social media and am super insanely passionate. Yet it's still not enough! I feel like you have to know people!

(tee - express | tights - target | do you really want to skirt me in print - c/o modcloth
birdhouse necklace, ecote skimmers - urban outfitters | cardigan - h&m)

I wore this same exact outfit while I was in NYC, but never got photos of it! I absolutely love this skirt from ModCloth - the print is so whimsical and unique. It has little farm scenes, rabbits and trees on it. The bow gets wrinkly quickly, so I kept having to fluff it out to make it look like a bow, but really - I love it. I'm going to be stuck in this cardigan this fall - it's so comfortable! I once got ragged on the blog for wearing too many flats and cardigans - teehee, sorry! It's what I like! Buzz off! :)

Oooh so autumny! I love the signs of autumn - but right now I'm so caught up in the first signs of spring! Love it.
Oooh a fashion program, you should do it! It would be so fun!

Ah, love love love! I am so thrilled that it's finally getting cold. I never thought I would miss tights and cardigans sso much.

And don't worry, flats and cardigans are my pretty much everyday essentials. People are just plain stupid!

the color of that cardigan is soo lovely. you're whole outfit screams the beginning of autumn. :)

it was the beginning of autumn here in northern california - until we got a heat wave! it was 97 today! :(

i hope you can fix your website easily - that's too bad that that happened.

these photos are just lovely. <3

I hear ya, it's like that in Austin too. Social media/web design/PR jobs are all so competitive right now, it's insane.

I'm absolutely loving this weather, Michigan is so beautiful in autumn!

I love your cardigans and flats, it shows you can dress comfortable and still look amazing! I love that skirt too, I almost bought it but I am self grounded from shopping for awhile.

I absolutely adore this outfit! And somebody actually was hating on your for wearing flats and cardigans too often? That's ridiculous! If they have a problem with it then check out somebody else's PERSONAL style blog!

You are so lucky to have cool weather. I cannot wait for L.A. to be that cold to sport all my cardigans.
I love everything about that skirt. So pretty!

Have a great week!

i love how you incorporated a summer-y skirt into a cold weather outfit! i've been wondering how to do that.

Can you believe it snowed in Anchorage this week? Crazy! Glad I left. I feel like I almost traveled through three seasons last week, haha! Now I'm in Spokane and it's in the 80's and gonna be like that all week! Guess I'd better start dressing for summer again eh?

I love that skirt. So cute. And that cardi always looks so cozy and grampa-y.

Girl, there are lots of graphic design jobs in Chicago! I feel bad no one called you ever from my work but, we needed senior level. :( But there is SO much graphic design in Chicago. I am sure there are jobs. I will look around again for you.

It is getting chilly here too. We actually turned our heat on yesterday! It makes me happy though because I now know tights and once again ok to wear!

You are so gorgeous, Tieka. I love this outfit, and I love that it matches your surroundings.

Good luck with your job search, friend. I know how hard it is -- I've had some trouble networking in my area, too. I hope you'll be able to find a job fair/conference/meetup in your area soon -- maybe you'll meet some people/opportunities that way...best of luck. :)

I love this outfit! So perfect. Skirts, tights and cardigans are my absolute favorite for chilly weather. And that skirt is perfect!

I just found your blog about a month ago and I pretty much love it! Maybe more than love it, if that's possible :) It's great.

Thanks for the regular dose of fashion inspiration!

I totally know what you mean about needing connections in this industry...I'm graduating this Spring and am planning on working the few tiny connections I have to go into advertising/pr but it's hard.

I'm interning at an ad agency in Madison, WI right now and I know they hire graphic designers and interactive people occasionally. I could put in a word for you if you'd like. Madison is really a beautiful city and not TOO far from Michigan.

This outfit is beyond perfect, Tieka - I adore that cardigan and your skirt! I eyed up that skirt when it first came out and want it even more now.

Oh, pfft - you can never wear too many flats and cardigans! I practically live in them too (style twins, hehe!)

I think the "Mr. Rodgersesque cardigan" is a nice contrast to the girlish pieces underneath!

Don't let people get to you on here.... fashion blogging is supposed to be about your own preferences on what makes YOU feel good, and I think readers forget that sometimes.

Good luck with your job hunting.

I don't think you can ever wear too many cardigans, especially in a cold climate. You need them to keep wearing the cute tops and dresses that aren't warm enough on their own.

you look amazing, love!! I know, I'm so excited about the fall-ish weather in the Midwest right now! Its warm in the sun and cool in the shade with crisp evenings!

I love your cardi and flats, and I agree with the girl who said its proof you can be stylish and functional!

Hope everything is okay with the website, and best of luck with the job hunt. Maybe it's the start of something amazing? :)

I'm finally coming to terms with autumn-- one of my favorite indicators that it's getting to be that time of the year again is the undeniable SMELL of fall in the air.

This outfit is perfect for the weather, too. I especially really like how it matches with the backdrop. :)

Your skirt is just so darling, love it! I love your autumn look, it's perfect for the season. I have a long, sparkly gold cardigan that I think I'm going to be living in all fall, comfort can really dictate an outfit sometimes. There seemed to be a lot of graphic design jobs in Chicago when I lived there, and it seems like there are a lot of openings in Detroit. My step-sister got a full time graphic design job in downtown Detroit. Something to look into.

Yay for cardis and flats! I'm the same...why change something you looove?
Yes, things are definitely though in the design area now. I'm not sure about the US but the entry salary in Germany is around 1500, for 50+ hours per week. That if you're so lucky to find something..Sure you can live on that income, but still..it's ridiculous! But don't give up Tieka, no matter how low and desperate you feel! You're too passionate and talented for not having an amazing career one day!

Love ya! Diana

I love this combo and the pictures are gorgeous as always.

Theres nothing wrong with cardigans and flats!! Thats pretty much what I live in. As nice as it would be to run around in heels and fancy tops all day, its just not that practical.

Hope you find a job soon, I'm currently looking too. Although different area to you, but its getting to the point that I just want anything! The market isn't very good for job hunters at teh moment. I'm begining to consider heading back to Uni too. Something will come up though!

Too right you should tell them to buzz off! It's your blog, your space. I'm pretty sure I have a lack of hits/followers because I'm as adventurous in my style as other bloggers seem to be but I don't care because it's what I want to wear & I'm tonnes happier knowing I'm staying true to myself, not pleasing other people. You're a good girl, you!

cardigans and flats fill my wardrobe im actually wearing a cardy and flats right now! love your style never change my dear!
I know what you mean about jobs, I work for a fashion agent fater a degree in fashion management and it took 6months of searching and crappy jobs before i found one i love..ive been here 2 years now and would like to move on but finding jobs in any design based job almost goes on who you know.. stick at it your very talented im sure you'll get there! :) ps thanks so much for answering my question on ur previous post :) x

I hear you about finding a job bc I'm in the same boat! what I find is that everyone wants 3-5 years concentrated experience in one area and I have a little bit of experience in many areas. It's frustrating bc I need experience but no one will give it to me, so it's a total catch 22! Gah! lol. Don't worry though, just stick with it and you'll find something. Or better yet, try and find freelance work - if no one will hire you, hire yourself :)

I'm so glad you got your site back up and running. I was worried.

Design jobs are hard to come by these days but I promise you can get one. This site is a working portfolio for your skills which is a lot more than most people have to show right out of school. (it took be 9 months of applying everyday but I got one and I did have anything ear as impressive as this site) I also would recommend trying to work your way into a fashion design position, if you really want one, rather than going back to school if you can. Most of fashion design involves things that you are already good at.

PS. Check out Lands' End for job openings... ;-)
