The green lady

Michigan is so full of ancient mysteries, local legends, unexplained phenomena and haunted cemeteries. I know that the number one reason you all follow along this blog is to take part in our crazy adventures (riiiight, let's just pretend for this week, at least!) and so you're all just going to be so frightened with the spooky adventures that we are going to risk our lives for. Ooooooh!

There is an urban legend in Comstock Park, just 30 minutes east of our quaint little beach town. It's about an apparition of a woman in a green Victorian-style dress, observed kneeling and weeping at the grave of a child, in the Mill Creek Cemetery (a.k.a. Lamoreaux Cemetery). She is lovingly named The Green Lady. People have searched everywhere and nobody is able to come up with anything on her or this creepy cemetery.

This cemetery is a unique one. It's hidden from view, and there is no road to it, only old stone stairs up a hill. It is very overgrown. Once inside the cemetery, there are graves in the side of the hill, scattered way into the woods, in some very odd places. It is not a large cemetery. People have been told it is abandoned. Most of the gravestones date back to the 1800's. We did locate a grave of a child all by itself. I wonder if that is the one she is supposedly seen kneeling by? The cemetery itself is not marked at all, no signs or anything. - Dave, Grand Rapids Area Paranormal Enthusiasts via Weird Michigan.

After reading about this urban legend, it was such an adventure to map out this cemetery with Brett, climb up the old creepy stone stairs and come upon this creepy old cemetery on the top of a hill in a very hidden spot. We found the stand alone child's gravestone, the very gravestone that is said to be haunted by The Green Lady. Ooooh! I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight! I'll be tossing and turning all night..! ;)

Tieka! Pretty gals with their husbands in spooky graveyards is HOW urban legends get started!

Sigh.

I love you and your adventures. ;)

This reminds me of that one time a few summers ago when I went to a local "haunted graveyard" with a group of friends. We had the huge flashlights and everything. To be truthful, not too much happened, but it was the fear and anticipation that was the most exciting part. Perhaps you two need to go back when it's nighttime when the ghosts truly come out? :D
I love how you wore green socks to the supposed site of the Green Lady-- I'm sure she would've appreciated that. What a cool adventure! I thought the "scared" facial expressions of yours were appropriate too, haha.

I LOVED reading this! This whole post is so perfect - the spooky graveyard, your little green socks, your expressions, the whole story behind it. Ah, I love it.

Is it completely lame that I freaked myself out reading this? (I'm all alone in my flat and it's late at night, ok?!) Hehe ;)

At Aquinas College, the main administration Holmdene (the huge brick building covered in ivy), is absolutley haunted. Everyone always sees lights flicker on and off at night and there's a little girl who wanders the halls. It's very creepy at nighttime! <3

I'm up for your adventures! I love reading ghost stories, so I'm looking forward to what you have coming up this week! Sometimes I get bored reading the same stories over and over again, I'm not really sure if I know any from Michigan? I guess that's a good thing so these will all be fresh to me. haha

i LOVE cemeteries!!! they're so creepy and eerie, and yet, oddly peaceful at the same time. i get scared VERY easily, so stories like this freak me out. but i still kind of love them and find them fascinating. ;)

The thought of a stand-alone child's grave in an abandoned cemetery breaks my heart, though I suppose it is very old and there is no one left to visit. :(

I like cemeteries too, and that one is very pretty between the trees. If you guys ever go to Paris do check out Pere Lachaise, it's gorgeous.
Wasn't it hard to clamber through the forest on heels?
In any case, glad you're doing these posts, I really like local stories and legends!

I super LOVE spooky story especially in the month of October! You guys really made it to the cemetery! I bet nobody would want to go to one with me to take pictures! It's so amazing that those gravestones dated the year of 1800s. So ancient! (;
