Stairway to Hell

This past weekend, Brett and I took a trip to explore our local cemetary. There is an old urban legend of the Stairway to Hell. It is in Lake Forest Cemetary, near the Civil War burial section. The legend goes that when a person is buried in that cemetary (and there are over 22,000 graves currently), the soul of that person goes to the bottom of the stairway. The "person" then walks up the stairway.

As they approach the top, if they are meant to go to heaven, a beautiful white light will appear: the "doorway" to heaven. If the soul gets to the top and a white light never appears, they are doomed to turn around and walk back down, knowing that hell is waiting for them at the bottom. The stairway itself is paranormally active. Unexplained geomagnetic disturbances and temperature drops have been recorded on it. - Nicole Bray via Weird Michigan

Ooooh, so scary, right? Haha! I love scary ghost stories! It's especially funny that Brett and I rode our scooters here to this spot.. so I parked my mint-green cute little scooter at the bottom of this creepy staircase. Hehe. Brett and I have visited this spot often - it's so interesting! If you climb the staircase, at the top, there are the oldest gravestones! I'm not sure why it's creepier when a gravestone is tilted sideways either!

(plaid flannel - target | wedges - forever 21 | black and white stripes dress - c/o the novel hunt)

Anyone have plans for Halloween yet or know what they are dressing up as? I have no idea! I'm not sure what is happening next weekend.. and Brett and I haven't planned costumes or anything yet. I absolutely love Halloween though. Passing out candy to trick or treater's as they run through the leaves in the front yard, watching scary movies, stuffing my face with chocolate bars, dressing up in costumes. It's all just so much fun!

This is such a cute/spooky post! I love the photos of you running down the stairs! I brainstormed last night and thought of 5 super simple costumes so I'm going to share all of them on my blog this week! Maybe you'll get ideas?

I really want to do a photo shoot at a cemetery too! Love the plaid with the skirt, so cute.
p.s. did you know Coco Chanel had a tiny obsession with graves and cemeteries? Reading about it in her biography.

I think I know why tilted gravestones look creepier. It's because someone may have tried to dig their way out and pushed up the gravestone in the process. hehe..or not. That's just my hypothesis anyways;)

And way to rock those wedges! I love your outfit with them!

i love how you look like a lumber jack, but a really cute one! :)

also, i like how you're incorporating edgier pieces for fall, just like you said you were planning. although i understand people's style change (i am no different) a little piece of me misses the tieka in the beginning where it was a mix of floral, somewhat girly, cute clothes with edgier pieces.

Ghost stories are the best! I watch all those hokey Ghost Hunters/Adventure shows mainly for the stories alone. My boyfriend on the other hand gets super excited at every piece of evidence they get. haha.

This post reminds me a lot of when I was in highschool. My hometown had tons of these little, worn down grave yards about 15 miles outside the limits that are supposed to be haunted. My personal favorite was the one called "Dead End" It was literally right next to a dead ended road and tucked away up this small hill. People say there are hundreds of bodies there, but there are only 6 visible gravestones with the same last names. My assumption is that it was a family plot. Our first time going there one night we were hearing moaning sounds that were so loud that most of us headed to the car to leave... little did we know there was a cow farm on the other side of the trees :).

Such an eerie post! I love the photos, though. Absolutely perfect for the time of year. What a bizarre story! Especially the temperature drops...

I adore the sweet plaid shirt. Plaid is pretty much one of those epitome of autumn type things. I am totally crushing on the skirt portion of your dress, as well. So cute and flouncy! Gah. I'll stop making up words now.

You need to plan your Halloween outfit soon girlie! Times a ticking. I think I'm going to be a ballerina, but we'll see. I know; I'm an utter hypocrite. I'm telling you to plan and I haven't, either!

Love this post! I went to a cemetary last week (for a class, actually)...and realized it was probably the first time I ever 'hung out' in a cemetary...but it was fun! I had so much fun walking around and looking at the names and ages on some of the older graves... and wondering what those people were like!

I'm dressing up as Hello Kitty for Halloween! I went to a Halloween party this past Saturday and gave my costume a test-run.... I love it!

I already blogged about it...

The photos where it's all blurred! and scary! and omg! on your face, I really love them, the came out really well. :) My favorite has to be the sixth picture from the top; did you use photoshop/edit it afterward, or was it taken like that naturally? Either way, I hope you saw your soul at the top. x)
