Congrats, girl! Email me please at firstname.lastname@example.org! Thanks so much to everyone for entering! If you didn't win this one, just be sure to check back every Wednesday for a new giveaway from a lovely sponsor! And be sure to check out Vintage Strings for wonderful vintage items!
Happy Friday everyone! Here is my second attempt at a sponsor spotlight! I hope you guys were as excited as I was to receive this ModCloth look book email titled.. Paving the Way to your Stylish Adventures. Clicking into it, I was breath taken! I absolutely love these images, the styling.. the theme.. everything. It leads you in with See What's Around The Bend...
As you all know, I'm in love with dressing for the occasion - whether it's a carnival, a beach day, a day at the zoo.. you guys know me, if it's something I can dress for, you know I'm there! And a road trip is the perfect time to bring out some really adorable style. I adore this Poconos Jumper and these Ruby Toesday flats!
I have this Seeing Red Dress, but in black, but I like it so much that I'm contemplating even getting it in red! Red is such a perfect picnic dress, road trip dress, whatever. I've had a slight obsession with red lately. I've seen so many bloggers in love with this Shutter Speed bag - with good reason!
Gimme this entire outfit here, please! Ah! The Betsey Johnson socks are so cute! I'm really excited that mixing prints is still in style because it's something I have so much fun doing with my own personal style.
If you guys haven't checked out ModCloth's Summer Road Trip collection, you must! You'll be drawn in with dreamy photos and inspiration to carry you through all of your summer road trips, which Brett and I have many, many planned coming up really soon! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
It's like a magnetic attraction. Put a dorky carnival or some touristy event near our town and you can guarantee Brett and I will be paying it a visit. Well, today, it was the Fruitport Old Fashioned Days. It's actually.. a pretty redneck carnival with a dirty petting zoo and a few rides and carnival vendors oogling my goodies. But, of course, we go. And, of course, I end up wearing my "carnival outfit"! Brett begged me to change of course, but being the daring fashionista I am, here I am. And after many stares and oogles, trust me, I was ready to scoot after we grabbed some shots!
I knew we had a carnival coming up and I wasn't sure what to wear to this extravagant event! At first, I spotted this darling carnival confetti dress at Modcloth, that sold out. So, then I went on the hunt for another fun dress and spotted this ZZ dress! And I purchased the very last one. I saw it said "one left" and after my purchase saw it go to "Oh no, we're sold out!" Yessss.. I win! But Modcloth has this wonderful feature where you can have them alert you when it's back in stock. Nifty, huh?
These darling bangles will be hosted as a giveaway soon - so keep your eyes peeled! I was really excited when I got them in the mail to host as a giveaway and saw that they matched today's outfit perfectly. I have some really exciting news for you guys too. Wait.. you think I'm going to tell you now? No way. Of course, as always, I have a wonderful obsession of wanting to debut everything in a "cute way" on the blog, so you'll just have to wait and see! Just let me say, it's one of the most exciting collaborations for Selective Potential yet!
So after we snapped these photos, we took a ride around the lake (a typical sunset ritual in our town, it seems, to "cruise" the strip) Well anywho, Brett and I were blasting our Hall & Oates radio station and I was clicking through the camera unsure if I liked these photos or not, thinking maybe I went overboard with the riskyness in this outfit. And I turn to Brett and go, "Let's head down to the beach so you can snap more pictures" and a song on the radio's lyrics go, "I can't go for that (no can do)" and I start dying laughing. So of course, Brett starts singing this to me and I'm just cracking up. I updated my music player. It's just one of those perfectly timed out moments.. hahaha, so funny. These lyrics are just made for our guy's behind the camera: Easy, ready, willing, overtime. Where does it stop, where do you dare me to draw the line. You've got the body, now you want my soul. Don't even think about it, say no go. I'll do anything that you want me to. I'll do almost anything you want me to do. But I can't go for that, no. No can do. Bahahaha!
Summer, is that you? Seriously! 86 degrees in May in Michigan... that's just unheard of! But I'm not complaining, nope, not me! I'm basking in the glory of the heat! Riding around town on our scooters, soaking in the wonderful breeze, playing dress up in cute, summer dresses and frolicking around barefoot in grassy fields! That's me! When you live in the mitten, you can't complain. You take every moment of heat and you bask in it!
Sunday, Brett and I took a little picnic in what he calls "the grassy hills" that he has been going to since he was a kid. He'd take his friends out there, run on the hills, swim in the mucky water, you know. Typical boy stuff. Well there is a new housing development sort of taking over the land, but we still snuck past and followed the trail back to the corner of the field, hidden behind a shrub to enjoy sandwiches and lemonade!
I felt so lovely in this dress. It's the perfect summer dress. Longer length, a cross back, detailed buttons, a subtle floral print. I knew I had to have it, so it is mineeee! I can imagine many frolics in this dress - come beach sunsets, downtown romps to grab muffins or as you can plainly see, picnics in a field! To be quite honest, Brett and I were eaten alive by bugs and ended up running off the field with our giant picnic basket in tow laughing at our dirty feet and bugs in our hair.
Life has been wonderfully busy since graduation, mostly full of Brett time. I honestly missed him so much during the semester, that it's finally so wonderful to be able to hang out with him every night. We eat dinner together, go the movie theater, scoot around the lake, typical marriage. It's perfection.
Just a quick note: Spotted Moth is a new, sweet online boutique! I checked out their website to make sure you guys would be interested and right away knew you guys would be! Really cute clothing and accessories - for quite affordable prices! So they're offering me (and you!) a 15% discount that you can use just once - so make a wise choice! And use the code "potential" for your discount!
So, happy graduation to me.. and Brett! (ha!) We found out we couldn't have a puppy in our apartment, so I'm instead counting these as my graduation gift to myself. Plus, Brett gets one because it's more fun when we each have our own! We actually got them a few weeks ago, but I've been waiting for the perfect weekend to debut them. With our 86 degree day today, it was the perfect day to go scootering around our lovely beach town. This photo was so inspired by this one here!
They are both Genuine Scooter Buddy scooters! He opted for black and I went for the girly mint green color! They are so much fun. We had scooters a couple of years ago, but Brett got into an accident and I sold mine so we could get Brett's old car fixed, so we lost them, but now we have better ones (that we're being extra careful on, promise!) But some of my favorite memories of the first year of our marriage were spent on scooters, so I knew we had to have them again. They seriously make life so much more fun!
In summer, our town changes like you wouldn't believe. It doubles in population because we're such a touristy town! So in the summer, there is never parking - even the locals like us can't find parking anywhere - so these are going to be perfect for heading down to the beach and never searching for a spot! We took them down to the beach tonight, watched the sunset and rode them home... perfection!
Here's to a summer of scooter trips and adventures! I couldn't be more excited! We've had such a lovely weekend. Last night, Tall Ships (Brett's band) played in Traverse City and it was such a fun show with friends. Afterwards, we grabbed pizza in downtown Traverse - so good. I had a blast. Next weekend, Tall Ships is going on a mini-tour (Grand Rapids, Howell, Chicago!) so Kait and I are tagging along and I'm so excited. It's going to be a blast. I loveee our group of friends! I promise to blog all about it!
Welcome to the 5th edition of Selective Potential's "Guy Behind the Camera" series! I'm again so excited to have the content to continue this each and every month. I have such amazing blog friends out there - with such amazing guys behind the camera that deserve to be featured! First, we have Sonya from Sorreal! Her lovely boyfriend, Matt, takes most of the pictures for her blog and has been such a help - even when he attends the University of Florida and is an architecture major - and it's one of the hardest majors - so he is busy 24/7, but still takes the time out for Sonya's love for blogging and fashion! What a sweet guy!
Next, we have Jenny from Fashion for Writers! Her boyfriend's name is Michael. He's a poet and one day she thinks his name will be uttered in the same sentence as Rimbaud, as in: "Oh the two best poets of all time are Arthur Rimbaud and Michael Taren." Haha, so cute! She loves him too much - and he helps her take goofy photos even though she's usually looking around suspiciously to see if anyone is laughing at her when she often stumbles and trips or walks like a duck and then they have to start all over again because she looks inelegant! Haha! Trust me, Jenny, you always look elegant to us! And we know Michael agrees!
Third, we have Kate from Postcards from... I absolutely love reading up on her and her "dream boat", as she calls him, Nathan! They have such a cute relationship - picnics, you name it. He takes all of her pictures for her - rain or shine - with a smile on his face, always. What a darling couple - always both dressed to look amazing.
Fourth, we have Sarah from Bad Penny. Her and her boyfriend have been together for two years and is such a great guy to her. She loves his fashion sense - and they are always out shopping together. Truly adorable! Talk about major chemistry - because these two are amazing musicians, so the arts are insanely close to their hearts (made a rhyme!) and hence their love for fashion. He almost always take all of her pictures for her and of course, she loves him! So cute.
And lastly, we have Gizelle from Vanilla Ice Cream! They are so sweet - taking weekend beach trips and having wonderful laughs and sweet moments together always. She loves how he supports her in every way. A lot of guys were intimidated by her before Harry came into her life because she always has a lot of things going on, but Harry loves her strong personality (so do we, girl!) She wouldn't be able to sustain her blog without him.. so thanks to Harry for supporting our lovely Gizelle!
That's it for this month's "Guy behind the Camera" series! If you would like to submit you and your guy, please email me at email@example.com with your name, your blog URL, a photo of him, a photo of you and a brief description of why you love your guy! If you enjoyed reading this blog, be sure to check out the previous four editions! Have a wonderful Saturday! I'm off to support my lovely husband in his band in Traverse City tonight!
I'm starting a new feature where each Friday (when I normally don't post!) I'm going to showcase one of Selective Potential's sponsors and give you some updated news or items I'm currently lusting after! I know I mentioned it quickly the other day, but Shop Ruche has an amazing new Summer 2010 look book that you must see! It's lured me in with it's, "Let's take a road trip.." title. The images, the settings, the clothing - it's the perfect summer look book.
I just bought this "Oh, It is Love" Sweetheart pink heart cut-out dress and cannot wait to receive it! I can just imagine a cute little summer picnic while wearing it! Their setting of vintage cars, picnics, pies and little summer getaways are so inspiring to my summer plans. I'm stealing a few of their ideas for a couple of trips Brett and I are taking this summer!
I also purchased these "Queen of the Prairie floral shorts"! I have so many floral items, but this will be the first in shorts! I'm going to love these for summer. Now I need a sweet little top like this to match.
A floppy summer hat is next on my shopping list, especially paired with a vintage inspired bathing suit (which I'm currently working my butt off to lose those sneaky winter pounds!) This "Afternoon by the Creek Wide Brim Straw Hat" is exactly what I want and need! One of my favorite things about Shop Ruche is how affordable it is - for how wonderfully styled their items are. Be sure to head over to check out their Summer 2010 look book! I promise you won't be disappointed!
I've been so excited all day to get home from work to update with this post. Brett and I took these pictures last night and I'm just in love with the lighting and the whole setting and how beautifully it worked out. The sunset was gorgeous last night. It's so wonderful to take a drive down by Lake Michigan and see the sun set on the lake. I always take for granted that I can do that every night. It's so pretty! Expect many more outfit posts down here! The only problem I have with it is waiting until sunset to do outfit shots. I'm too excited that I want to do them earlier in the day!
This wonderful, classic white dress is from Megan Nielsen and is being mailed around to the girls in the Delightful Dozen. It's so perfect for spring/summer. The lace detailing on the top is so subtle and pretty and this dress is going to be perfect to fit our gorgeous pregnant girls in the group too! Elizabeth and I both belted it, but this dress could be styled so many different ways! I did something crazy in this dress (expect a post on Monday!) and was so scared to get it dirty! Hope it's not too bad for Julie, who gets the dress next! Be sure to check out how Elizabeth styled it here, and become a fan on our facebook page to stay up to date with the Delightful Dozen!
I paired it with gray accessories! My favorite scarf, as you all know because it's plastered on my blog header, is the perfect touch to keep bare arms cold when there is still a little bit of a spring chill in the air! And the sandals I got on sale for $20 at UO! I score the best deals at UO for some reason! Probably because I don't have one close by, so all of the sale items are all new and exciting to me!
Just a few things - there is a darling new summer 2010 lookbook over at Shop Ruche that you must check out. If I could have all of my summer outfit posts to look just like this lookbook, I'd be so happy. Haha! I just purchased this heart cut-out dress - I've been lusting after one that fit into my budget - and this one is perfect. I bought it the second I saw it - haha! I'm compulsive! Also, if you own the Selective Potential dress, send in your images of you wearing it! I'll put them up on the blog! And also - a quick question! Do you think I should touch up the ombre hair or grow it out? I can't decide what to do! I'm a blonde - that's who I am - but I'm also loving the darker roots for once in my life - half and half is the only solution I can think of!
I'm so excited that it's Friday tomorrow! We have some so-fun weekend plans that I can't wait to tell you guys about on Monday! I put Selective Potential on a bit of a schedule recently to make sure I'm getting my outfit posts and giveaways and what not scheduled when they need to be, so that way I'm organized! And let me just say - next week is going to be a fun week! I'm so excited for it! Have a great weekend, everyone!
