Pink Ladies

Greetings, Selective Potential-ites! Since our dearest Tieka is laid up for a bit healing from her wisdom teeth, I, Elizabeth from Delightfully Tacky, will be your Selective Potential ambassador for the day! I feel like me posting today is kind of serendipitous, seeing as Tieka was wearing my ModCloth Delightfully Tacky dress in the last post. In reciprocity, I shall post an outfit where I'm wearing one of Tieka's lovely skirts! I was thrilled when she put this skirt up for swap with the Delightful Dozen, it's so darling. I pretty much never wear pink, and as a kid and teenager I basically avoided it like the black plague, but I figured, why not. You can see how Mel and Tieka both styled this skirt over at the Delightful Dozen facebook page...

shirt/j.crew (thrifted) :: skirt/Tieka's (ModCloth via Delightful Dozen)
top(dress)/old navy :: booties/seychelles :: socks/betsey johnson (c/o ModCloth)
ring/forever 21 :: necklace/shop in kihei

An all pink outfit is definitely the perfect excuse to wear pink socks with hearts on them too... For some reason I feel like pink is Tieka's color. She just looks so cute in pink! I don't believe I'm sweet enough to be convincing in pink, but I'll visit from time to time. I think it works better with my red hair though. My mom has this color naturally (for those of you who don't know, my real color is near-black dark brown) and she always pulled off pastels so well. Dark hair is just so stark that I think it washes out a lot of pastel colors, so it's been kind of fun wearing colors I normally wouldn't.

Well, I'm out! Wish Tieka a quick recovery! Hopefully by now she'll be feeling a little less under the weather. Oh, and I've got another Delightful Dozen outfit on my blog today, so check it out! Another dress from Lulu Letty!

Sweet temptations

So speaking from a Thursday stand-point, pre-wisdom teeth removal, I knew I wasn't going to be able to eat for 6 hours before the surgery and was to only eat soft foods afterwards, so I told Brett he better treat me to something yummy. So, of course that included a little diner for chicken fingers and fries and a homemade ice cream from Temptations! Mmm in my belly. The girl at the counter said, "What would you like?" and I say, "I want what that little girl has outside!" and she scooped up two scoops of delicious Superman. Mmm, one of my favorites!

So, this dress has three favorite things about it. The first thing is that it's named after my very favorite blogger, Delightfully Tacky. Second, it has an amazing open-back. Third, of course, you all guessed it - pretty, floral print! You just can't lose with this dress! I wanted to go for a romantic look - pairing it with pastel and light accessories. Plus, mixing patterns, of course, is another favorite of mine! The perfect dress for an ice-cream date on the boardwalk.

Sweet Temptations is so yummy. They handmake all of their own ice-cream and waffle cones. Plus, caramel corn, fudge, you name it. They have over 28 flavors of ice-cream! Yum! Typically I'm a soft-serve girl, myself, but I do love a good Superman, or Black Cherry or Cake Batter hard-serve once in a while too! Plus, it's a fun touristy spot in our town.

Well, have a wonderful Saturday everyone! I typically don't post outfits on the weekends, but I need to play some major catch up! There is a lot more swapping going on in the Delightful Dozen and I'm way behind on clothes from my busy, busy college days still! So instead of two outfit posts a week, you get three. Wooo, haha! Most fashion bloggers update their outfits every day! They're nuts! But accomplished! I'm lazy, and a neat freak, so I need to spend my weekends cleaning our dirty apartment. Hehe! Bye! xo

Makeup Tutorial

Happy Friday everyone! As of the moment, I am in surgery getting my little wisdom teeth out! Eeep! Scary! I'm scheduling this post on Thursday to automatically publish on Friday! I'm taking a week off from taking outfit pictures, but don't worry, you're in great hands! I have an outfit post automatically publishing Saturday and next week, you get two delightful bloggers filling in for me! Plus a brand new giveaway, a Chictopia and Anirtak winner (you still have time to enter!) and by next weekend, I should be back up and running full-force! I've gotten a lot of requests for a makeup tutorial video, so here you go! Of course, the day I decide to do a makeup tutorial, my hair is a crazy disaster from scooting and my skin decides to freak out. Oh well, real life, aye? I was thinking of doing more videos - let me know if you like it! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Parks and playgrounds

It is a well known fact that Brett and I love playing on playgrounds! They are so much fun - to swing on the swings, to slide down the slides, to spin on those really fast spinning things and then feel really sick afterwards. Hehe, so fun! Especially if you find those awesome playgrounds with the little speakers that travel to the other speaker. Brett and I will sit there and just say dorky things to each other. Ah, it's fun to be kids. I'm almost 24 and I'm still a little kid. He's almost 26 and he's even more of a little kid!

Last weekend, I was thrifting and saw these old granny shorts and thought, you know. These are actually really cool right now - so I bought them and a baby blue pair! A year ago, I would have thought I was crazy wearing these - but they are so comfortable, perfect for riding the scoot and playing on playgrounds! I hiked them up as high as they could go - the higher, the better! I received this dress for a swap in the Delightful Dozen through Maria of Lulu Letty! If you haven't heard yet, Maria is our new member of the Delightful Dozen, so be sure to check out our page for the side-by-side photos and updated on everything going on in the DD!

Brett was like, "Hang upside down!" and I wasn't sure if I could still do it! I honestly haven't hung upside down since I was a kid - it's a lot more tough when you get older! He's the master at all things hanging. He always beats me at chicken fight and can always cross the monkey bars when I can't even make it past two of them! In the winter, we made a winter video of us and he totally took me down on the monkey bars! He's supposed to pretend to let me win, right?! We really need to make a spring video of us doing something typical in marriage again! I like videos! I'm working on a makeup tutorial video right now!

I'm getting my wisdom teeth out on Friday morning and I'm so nervous. Like.. awful feeling nervous. I've never been put under before and I've never broken a bone, had any type of surgery, or stitches, or sprained anything. I've never even really had a deep cut or a huge bruise or anything. I'm a wuss! I just want Friday morning to be over with! Give me good-case scenarios guys! I need encouragement. Brett keeps giving me gory details. Jerrrk! Thanks everyone for your amazing comments lately - I'm trying to play catch up! I might disappear after Friday morning for a while depending on how I feel! Wish me luck!

City beach

Lake Michigan was like bath water tonight! I dipped my toe into it expecting it to fall off from frostbite, but I was surprisingly pleased! It was so warm! I told Brett that if I had brought a towel, I would have totally dove in - clothes and all! Right at the beginning of summer, the water still has a little bit of seaweed from the winter season, so I'm really excited for it to naturally filter itself and then I can go swim! I adore swimming in Lake Michigan. It's the best experience ever. Fresh water, so clean, refreshing on hot summer days, but swimming at sunset is my favorite, especially during the end of summer when the waves get huge!

It sprinkled for two seconds and so we quickly headed to the beach to grab some shots, but it didn't continue and the sun was peeking through the clouds. It was so pretty. I loved the atmosphere down by the water tonight. I brought shoes, but I'm just caught barefoot most of the time in summer here. Did you know that walking through the sand is a natural exfoliant for your feet? (I tell my good friend Peter that every year and he responds with, "Tieka, did you know the human head weighs an average of 8 lbs?") Hehe! Don't ask; we're weird!

This is another dress I've been holding hostage since April. And it's one of my favorite dresses too. I love the buttons up the front, the cinched waist and the open back. It's a perfect length too - I really love it. And of course, floral print. Gawsh, you're all like.. Tieka.. we get it.. you like floral print. Move on. Hehe! I had a matching headband I haven't worn yet and went with it! Simple and easy! I was browsing through my spring outfits thinking it was my favorite season yet for style options. Spring and fall. I'm wondering how summer will be now. It's so exciting to see how my style changes for the seasons!

(what's in a name rosy dress - c/o shop ruche | wallet, headband - urban outfitters)

I've gotten so many compliments on my crazy, wavy hair! Thank you, guys! I can't stand it! Haha! I need a new blowdryer - immediately. It's out of control. Some of my outtake photos were like.. whoa.. flashback to the 70's! Totally Farrah Fawcett style! I don't mind a few waves, but man oh man! I get a lot of requests to go curly and I just don't know if I can do it. It's so terrible looking on me! I loveeee girls with curly hair, but I just cannot pull it off! I have no idea how I got boyfriends in high school. Seriously, I was a disaster! Haha!

Featured Blogger: Third Edition

For my third featured blogger, I'd love to introduce you to Bonnie from Flashes of Style (if you haven't already met this beauty through her wonderful blog!) When I first started blogging, I came across Bonnie's Chictopia and instantly fell in love with this first image below. It was the perfect look to me and I found her blog and have been following ever since. I read through every post starting from the very beginning loving her amazing talent at thrifting and ability to layer gorgeous outfits. She has a love for florals, like I do, and she pulls them off effortlessly. Bonnie has most definitely been an inspiration to me and I know she will be to you too!

1. What made you decide to start a personal style blog?

Well, I have always had a strong interest in fashion. Whether it be getting inspiration from magazines, street-style, or putting outfits together from my closet, and even creating my own mini "photo-shoots" with my friends, fashion has always been a prominent hobby of mine. I eventually decided, why not share my passion with the world? That is how my blog came to be!

2. You're a fashion student - what are your future dreams/plans?

I would eventually love to be a fashion stylist. I think that having a fashion blog is such a great way to develop your own distinctive personal style. I think that after I fully discover it, styling would be my dream career. I also have taken several fashion merchandising and PR classes. So in the meantime, I would love to do something creative like visual merchandising.

3. What is another passion of yours besides fashion?

Film photography has become a very strong passion of mine. I have been collecting an assortment of 35mm cameras, and I just love experimenting with them. As of recently, I just learned how to develop my own photos in a dark room, which makes it even more fun. Music is another love of mine. Although I do not play any instruments, I always surround myself by music! And of course, books are great. Characters in novels are my friends.

4. Did your semester in London affect your style?

Absolutely! I lived in central London, so basically everyday was like walking on a street that was a runway. I would get on the tube to go to class and see these immaculately dressed people. The styles I saw definitely inspired me, and also being in such a fashion forward environment allowed me to express myself more freely.

5. What are some of your current favorite blogs?

One of my absolute favorites blogs, and a very popular one, is Cherry Blossom Girl. I just adore her photos and how she makes every single post so enchanting. I am also really into Seriale-Moduse. She makes the BEST collages which are so inspiring. A few other favorites include Gala Gonzalez, Garace Doré and Alice Point.

6. A favorite band?

My top three favorite bands are: The Kinks, Beach House and Wilco. I also love anything folk, alt. country or indie.

7. You are wonderful at thrifting! Any secrets?

Thank you, first of all! I suppose a secret would be that I look through absolutely everything in the store, and even look through the racks twice. The best pieces I have thrifted are items which I have altered. For example, a lot of my dresses used to be floor-length or had big puffy sleeves or something silly like that. Basically, just keep one eye open for ways to customize the clothing you find.

8. Where do you get your inspiration for your style?

Oh so many places! Of course I get inspiration from the obvious, like magazines, blogs, runway, and the street. I also love when inspiration surprises me in new places, like an art museum, an old film, a pretty sunset or anything like that. Inspiration is everywhere!

9. What do you love most about your hometown in Texas?

The people, the food, and good thrifting! Also the comfort of southern living is quite nice.

10. Any tips for new bloggers trying to start up?

Just go for it! I spent months just
browsing other people's marvelous blogs before I got the courage to start up my own. Everyone is different, and it's so exciting seeing what new bloggers have to say.

I hope you all enjoyed learning a little bit more about Bonnie! Be sure to head over to her blog, Flashes of Style, for more wonderful inspiration. If you enjoyed reading this feature, be sure to check out my first featured blogger, Delightfully Tacky, and my second blogger, Modern Day Charm! I do a featured blogger every season, so be sure to look out in fall for a new lovely lady!

Boyden House

I'm always thrilled to post my Thursday outfit posts because I know I'm so close to the weekend. Ah, yes! I'm so excited. Especially because this weekend looks so relaxed. I need a relaxing weekend. I don't have any plans other than to catch a movie on Friday and spend Saturday with family. I'm going to sleep in.. and plan nothing else! Ah.. life in the slow lane is good!

I visited the Boyden House tonight. There are so many historic, gorgeous homes in my neighborhood. This one happens to be a bed and breakfast. I peeked in the windows and it looks so amazing. I need to stay there, even if it is in my own town just down the street from our apartment!

So I nearly fainted when I was able to find and purchase these shoes for half off! I've been lusting after them for so long. They were originally $120 and I bought them for $60! I couldn't resist. It was an impulse splurge. The most I've ever spent on shoes were my Jeffrey Campbell lace up boots and I bought those for $100. I must have a huge thing for Jeffrey Campbell, because I won't splurge like that for anyone else! But these are perfect. They are vintage-inspired, gold studded, mixture of wood and black (brown and black is my favorite color mix) and I'm just in LOVE. They fit like a gem (I'm a 7.5 and I ordered an 8) I couldn't love shoes more.. well maybe now it's a tie!

(belindas dream sweetheart dress - c/o shop ruche | belt, bag - urban outfitters

I got this dress so long ago! I'm so terrible right now with a back up of clothing in my closet, but I can't complain about that! Too many clothes is never a bad thing! Too little clothes? That's a different story. I love this floral printed dress from Shop Ruche. I just splurged there again.. their Moroccan Escape collection drew me in - and I couldn't leave without getting the shirt tunic and a leather ring! Ah, I know exactly when I'm going to wear it too! Well, have a wonderful weekend guys or gals! Be on the lookout tomorrow for a special giveaway! And oh! This is my last outfit of spring! Man oh man.. ! I cannot believe summer starts next week officially!
