Cutting the tree

This past weekend, we went to cut down our Christmas tree! We went to the same exact place last year, so it's fun to see this year's photos compared to last year's! It's a cute little place to chop down your own tree. Both last year and this year, we haven't yet had snow - which is awesome. I like November with no snow! Once December hits though, I'd love to have some for Christmastime! It doesn't feel right having our decorated tree inside when it's 45 degrees outside!

I'm in love with this jacket. I bought it from the Old Navy's 50% outerwear sale a month ago! It's so insanely warm and I love the length because I can wear any type of dress or skirt under it and it's concealed. Plus, I hate when you buy a jacket and wear it with jeans.. and your cardigan sticks out underneath. Plus, if you bend over and your back shows, you're freezing! I definitely wanted the long look this year. I also have not taken these boots off since I got them from Wanted. They are going to be so great when I'm romping around in snow above my ankles.

(jeans - gap | jacket - old navy | boots - c/o wanted)

What a fun tradition! I'm super excited for the month of December - it looks like there are a lot of good times ahead! Christmas parties, shopping, friends, family. Life is so busy, but very good! My job is going great, our band is progressing along (I love our new song!) and there's so much to look forward to. Every day counts, right?

Style on the street

I return after a very much enjoyed, long weekend away! It was so great to sleep in, lounge around, spend a lot of time with family and friends and to get our Christmas decorations up. It doesn't at all feel like Christmas-time! We don't have snow yet (I'm not complaining!) and the temperature today was 41 - which is pretty warm for us at the end of November!

I have been hoarding clothes in my closet! Kate from Postcards From sent me this dress a while back to style up and I'm finally getting to it! I absolutely love this floral print! It's so pretty and I thought it paired well with my new boots from Threadsence! I would wear this outfit constantly if I could! I'm so predictable with my style - I have to force myself to not wear floral print, lace up boots and a chunky circle scarf lately!

In big news, but completely unofficial, we have plans and put down money to build a house! We're reserving the lot right now for 6-months. Next April, if everything goes according to plan, we'll meet with an architect and a designer to pick out all of our colors and cabinets and what not. Then, next May, our builder will "dig" our hole and we'll be golden from there! We have a lot to do in the meantime and we have to work on saving a lot of money, but I'm so excited about the future. The house is amazing and the neighborhood is just wonderful. Let's cross our fingers!

I have another outfit post, a weekend post, a fun giveaway and a vlog coming up this week! For Christmas, I really want an HD video camera! I'd love to start playing around more with videos and video editing. This video here really inspired me to start teaching myself more about how I can create videos like this for my blog! It's such a great way to showcase your favorite music, outfit and surroundings all into one post. Well, have a great week everyone!

Workplace tour!

So as most of you know already, I landed a dream career in graphic design at an amazing company earlier this month. I searched all summer long - found an opening here before I left for new york fashion week - and on my first day in the big city, I received a call from them asking if I'd like to set up a phone interview. I set up my phone interview on my last day in NYC and as I sat in the little cafe of the hotel drinking one of those really yummy sparkling lemonades and eating an almond croissant talking with one of the designers - little did I know my whole life would change when I got home. Working here so far is life changing. The culture, the people, the work - every bit of it is so inspiring. Everyone there inspires me to be a better person, a better designer. I cannot wait to see myself grow as a designer and to see the company grow even more. And I get to stay in west Michigan. I am insanely lucky. Well anyway, sap aside.. let's take a mini tour, aye?! I snapped some photos with my retrocam, so the quality isn't perfect, but you get the idea. First up, we have my amazing new monitor, wireless keyboard and magic mouse!

I get a cute personal locker next to my desk and office area with area for books and picture frames. I had to order this cute print from Vol25's etsy shop. Life is like riding a bicycle, in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving. So true. Below, I have a photo of me and my best friend, Jen, and of course Brett and I looking out at Lake Michigan.

I brought in a lamp from IKEA (I wish you could see the color better, it's so cute) and I also invested in some nature-inspired items from ModCloth for my desk. I haven't gotten my business cards in yet - but I wanted this cute birdie business card holder - and I fell in love with this birch clock! ModCloth has some insanely cute items for home and apartment. I have a huge wishlist right now.

I have my giant headphones for listening to some music while I work! It's so fun - I always wanted a job where I could listen to music while I worked. I always used to love listening to music through those giant headphones in college classes.

This is my view of downtown from my seat at my desk! I love it. We have amazing natural sunlight throughout the whole building and it's so fun to see the sun rise and set through these windows while I'm at work. If it's snowing or raining, I love having such a large view to the world. Plus, there are some fun happenings in downtown that everyone breaks for to watch - like elephants walking down the streets to the circus or movies being filmed downtown. So awesome.

Here's a cute little front area and one of the large hallways. We have streetlamps on the "streets" and the overall design is that the left-hand side of the street is all community property - the cafe, conference rooms, storage, the community room. The right hand side of the street is where all of the "private" properties are (everyone's desk and work stations!) Isn't that amazing?

Another print, No one would ever have crossed the ocean if he could have gotten off the ship in a storm. Most of you know - but I'll say it again, and again. If you truly are passionate about something - you can accomplish anything. In high school, I just did not enjoy school - I wasn't truly passionate about anything in my life. I'm so different now. I found what I loved (finally), I went to the college of my dreams, worked my #!@ off, graduated with the studio excellence award and landed this amazing career - all because I took a chance on my dreams. And it wasn't easy. I had to work really hard to get into my first choice art college, I was terrible at drawing in college and would walk home crying as a freshman thinking I'd never graduate one day!, I've pulled so many overnighters, have spent so much money on classes and art supplies and new computers and software.. but I never gave up. I never said, "Ah, screw it." And here I am - 24 years old - totally on the top of my world. I know.. so sappy.. but dream big, girls (and boys!)

Desolate barns

Woot, woot! Two outfit posts in a row, go me! I knew that once I got my feet on the ground, I'd be back into a normal routine. It's all about how you spend the weekends. It's so tempting to lay on the couch, eat lots of junk food and fall into the trap of Sunday television, but you must resist! It has been so warm lately. I felt perfectly fine in some lace shorts outside.. in end of November. I know, it's insane!

I wanted these lace shorts so bad from Urban 1972 because they are so cute - but when I got them, I had no idea how to style them up. It was really challenging! I just went with a chunky knit cardigan and some t-straps (two of my crutches lately) but I liked how the casual cardigan and flats toned down what might have been a bold fashion statement in the lace shorts. I'm not typically a bold person when it comes to fashion, so it's all about taking unique items and making them me - a girl next door!

(cardigan - thrifted | best of both worlds shirt tunic - c/o shop ruche | bow - forever 21
sibling flats in big sis - c/o modcloth | boudior lace shorts - c/o urban 1972)

Tonight, I baked something from scratch! I know, most of you are cooking mavens, but I honestly am so terrible at cooking. When I was younger.. I tried to make an apple pie (crust, everything..) from scratch and it was the worst thing I've ever eaten! My mom is such an amazing cook - it must have skipped a generation. But my grandma was an amazing cook too.. where's my luck?! But tonight.. I baked pumpkin crisp. Oh gosh, it smelled so amazing. I opened the oven door.. and this wave of pumpkin butter dough hit my face and I spun around the kitchen and went "eeee!" I haven't tried any yet because it's for my work pot luck tomorrow. Wish me luck that it tastes alright!

Ferry park

Happy monday, everyone! I'm so excited for this week because it's a three-day work week and we have Thanksgiving coming up! I love the holidays - what a fun time of year. Brett and I had a great weekend - headed out to Chicago on Saturday with our friends, Jeremy and Kait, for their Magnificent Mile Lights Parade. I cannot believe Christmas is right around the corner. Michigan has held off on snow so far this year - which is perfection. We've had a gorgeous autumn. I like snow to hit after Thanksgiving.

navy tights - c/o lulu*s | t-strap heels - urban outfitters)

I'm loving this dress from Shop Ruche. If you're a long time reader of my blog, you all know I loveeee my sleeved dresses. They are just so easy to wear - no styling required! Especially when most of the time I have to wear a cardigan over dresses. This little bird print is so cute. I got so many compliments at work on it. A lot of you have asked me if I'm allowed to dress cute at work and if so, what do I wear - well this is it! I get to dress however I want at work - no dress code. So most of the time I'm in dresses, tights, boots, heels - and I go for jeans on Fridays. I love it.

I'll try to sneak out during some lunch breaks and grab some shots of more "work"outfits. These first two weeks have been very busy and a lot of times I haven't been able to sneak out because of meetings or orientation lunches, which has been so much fun. It's so different to work for a place where people want to connect and hang out during lunch. I love it! I'm putting myself on a calendar routine for the blog now that I'm so busy. It's really going to help with consistency in posts! I have a fun giveaway coming this week + a mini tour of my new office and workplace!
