Meyer May House

Brett and I took a little trip to visit the Meyer May House located in Grand Rapids. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and it is the most completely restored home of Wright's. It was so lovely to see the original prairie house as Wright had envisioned it. I don't have a deep understanding of architecture, but I absolutely love his designs and think it's amazing we're lucky enough to have one right in our own city.

I received this dress from Annie from Time Enough for Drums to style up through the Delightful Dozen! The pattern is unlike anything else I've styled up - so unique and pretty! It also has such lovely details - with the buttons and the little slit in the front. I wanted to keep an earthy feel to the outfit, so I went with my beloved olive green cardigan and earth colored boots!

(anthropologie dress - time enough for drums | boots - c/o wanted | cardigan - h&m
dots and daisy brown tights - c/o modcloth | return of the mack-rame belt - c/o modcloth)

Life has been so very busy lately. Plus, on top of that, my motherboard crashed (or something of the sort) on my Macbook Pro, so now Apple Care has it until Friday (I hope it's not longer than that!) I'm totally lost without a computer. Thank goodness I have Apple Care and it doesn't cost me a dime, but a fashion blogger... with no computer? Not good. So thanks for bearing with me! I can't wait to start posting our wintry session photos and outfits!

What a neat story about Mr Wright! I wish I could see some of the places he has designed. Michigan just has everything lovely! :) You look beautiful in this dress...you're right, its unlike anything youve worn on here! I like it though, the colors match you so well. Hope you get your computer back soon, crossing my fingers for you!!! x

Gorgeous dress and another great day trip, Tieka! And the motherboard crashing, yikes! That happened to me a few years ago, and all that can be said for it is that my boyfriend somehow rescued my hard-drive. I think the computer is still being used as a door stop somewhere. Hopefully you have better luck with Apple Care!

Sorry to hear about your Mac. So sad! But at least your outfit is adorable? I really like all of the mixed neutrals. It really stands out against the {mostly} white background.

Ugh, the logic board on my macbook just died but it was 5 years old so I had to just get a new one (which sucks from a $ perspective but rocks from an "I got a pimp new macbook" perspective)! I totally bought the extra years of Apple Care too - always worth it! I love the dress and that house is so cool!

This dress is breathtaking! And so are you. : ) This is so random, but have you heard of skinnytaste.com? I just discovered it and I thought of you because it's an UH-mazing recipe blog for people on weight watchers. I'm not even on weight watchers, but the recipes are so simple and healthy that I use it anyway. Just wanted to pass that along! xo

Ok. Back to the fashion. Lovely outfit as always! I officially WANT all your clothes. You seriously have the cutest outfits. And I love Frank Lloyd Wright ...how cool to see one of his buildings on your blog today.

Meyer May house that's so exciting! I'm an Art & Architectural History student and last November I went to Lloyd Wright's house in Oak Park, Chicago which was fascinating. I wish I lived in the States so I could make smaller trips like you do! Reg. computer woes, I feel ya sista. It took literally months for my insurance claim to get come through, but I decided to replace my lappy with a 27-inch imac and it was worth waiting! Cool dress =)

Kuleigh said...

I'm so jealous that you got to go to a FLW house! It is very lucky that there's one near you. And of course your outfit looks perfectly matched to it.

i feel your macbook woes! the other day a vertical blue line appeared down the middle of my macbook pro screen. and it won't go away! sadly, my apple care JUST expired and they don't let you renew. :( it's making editing shoots so tough... i'm hoping it just randomly goes away. or that a new computer magically appears at my doorstep. ;)

p.s. i LOVE your shoot with bryan and mae! the one of you in that floral chair is my favourite. :)

Lea's Suitcase said...

gah! before i even read the post i knew it was a FLW house :) I love mid-century design and my apartment/ clothing style reflects it.

since 5th grade, we had to build a birdhouse for our final project. I begged the teacher I didnt want a pointed rooftop...mine had to be flat. I didnt know anything back then about FLW just knew i liked the aesthetics of it.

lovely post

I just want to move to your area of Michigan, it's so much cooler than the southeast! Haha. You look amazing, this dress is so unique, I love it! The colors all go so well together. Oh and I can't wait to see your winter shoot!

That's so funny that you went there! A couple years ago SSF and I went to see Falling Water which is one of his houses in PA. It is seriously amazing. I'm not sure if you have ever seen pictures but it is built right into the landscape, over a river and everything. It's incredible.

Anyway, love the pictures, love the dress.

Such a cute look! Isn't Anthropologie the best?! I want boots like that. I've been looking forever.

I feel your pain about your computer. My boyfriend just broke mine by tripping over the powercord. Now I have a computer with a dead battery and no way to charge it! Definitely not good for a blogger.

Love your blog!

Nice outfit, and nice photos Tieka! I'm no architecture expert either, but it's definitely something I'm getting more interested in as I get older. It's amazing how much a built environment can affect human behaviour.

This is probably one of my favourite outfits of yours. All the colours work so well together & it looks so comfortable. I love seeing the items you have worked over & over again, like the cardi, belt, tights, boots. Remixin' for the win!
