Now that the busiest week of our life is over, Brett and I are back up to our old adventures. Today we headed to a town just north, where I grew up, to head to their downtown area. I tend to resist going back to my hometown because I just couldn't wait to get out, but they do have a lot of history there that I absolutely adore. There are few things that will bring me back home and these houses are one of them. I've loved these houses since I was a kid. Whenever we'd pass them, I would just stare in awe at how amazingly beautiful they are. So, blog readers, you get to experience the beauty today... of the Hackley and Hume homes!

A quick back story... they were built in the 1800's and are perfect examples of Queen Anne architecture. The Hackley and Hume Houses were the home of the town's most famous lumber baron, Charles Hackley and his business partner, Thomas Hume. The families shared the middle barn (called City Barn) and it was used for horses, equipment and two coachmen who had living quarters on the second floor. Walking inside of the homes is like... going back into time. They restored the Hackley House to it's 1890 appearance and it's just stunning. The wood carvings and stained glass windows take your breath away.

(remarkable insight dress - c/o modcloth | tights - target

This darling dress from ModCloth reminded me of something a woman would wear in the 1800's, so I thought it would be fun to style it up at this location! Even Brett thought my outfit went right along with our theme! This woven bag from Le Mode Accessories is going around to each of the girls in the Delightful Dozen, so watch for it next on Veronika from Tick Tock Vintage. I just purchased the tights and I thought the floral print was supposed to go up each side of your leg, but instead it wrapped around! I love them so much. Target had some insane sales... $3.50 for tights! I bought seven pairs today! Oh boy!

Brett and I explored the homes for a while and even the surrounding homes in this historic district. We creeped around this historic home for sale... and were in love. It was the wrong neighborhood for us, but the perfect house. I just can't wait to someday buy a historic home. It's such a dream. I'd love to be able to tell people about who lived in our house a hundred years ago. That would be so amazing! We've been holding out for the perfect one. It'll come along someday. I hope. ♥

You two would be perfect for a house like this! You look gorgeous and your outfit is so perfect for this adventure!
Love the second to last picture!
I think this is my favorite outfit that you've ever worn. I absolutely adore how "vintage" you look! You look like a doll next these houses. And oh my, I LOVEEE these houses. It's my dream, too, to own a pretty old house! I love that architecture! It's seriously so pretty. I can so see you and Brett raising kids in one of these and swinging on a front porch screen in the evenings ;)
Wow! Those houses are incredible! It looks like a film set! Amazing. And you look beautiful - that dress is gorgeous and how cool are those tights?! I wish we had target here! Oh, and that second to last photo of you is the cutest thing EVER. :)
the last time our target had a sale on tights I went nuts buying as many pairs as I could! I love the collar on this dress, it would make a great layering piece!
Also, were these taken with your new T2i?????:)
You look absolutely gorgeous! And the dress is precious on you :D

I love your shoes! My mother loves historical houses, but her idea is to buy one to fix up while she lives in a fully-functional apartment. Ah, to have money ...

your blog and you are adorable ^_^

wow those houses are incredible! We have so much history in the UK but no houses in that style (as far as I know). I guess you Americans had the advantage of being able to build houses as big as you liked, especially when you first discovered the country!
What an adorable place, the fit perfectly in!
Lovely dress!!

Oh wow, those houses are amazing! They remind me of some old haunted houses haha! Your outfit reminds me of Wednesday Aadams :) So cute! Those tights are lovely, I really like how they wrap around! Have a good week!
Amazing houses!!! Can you imagine living in that?! Love the outfit; those tights rock. I scored some awesome tights at Target as well...so cheap!
Have a great week!
Ooh I love that picture of you peering in the window! Nice photography work, Brett!
Also, as another commenter said, this outfit is very Wednesday Adams. So perfect for the location! Love!
Oh, that is the most perfect dress ever! I love it:)
xx
I'm beyond obsessed with those houses. It's like when you played the board game LIFE, and everyone fought over who got the Victorian house. (Or maybe that was just me.)
You also look adorable, obviously. (Although, the bombshell within me just wants to give you red lipstick. But, I want everyone in the world to wear red lipstick, so maybe I'm just nuts.)
I love those houses, American architecture is just fantastic. Your outfit looked perfect as well, those tights are so cute ^_^
nice look - simple but effective :)
What a beautiful location!! Love your thights!
This outfit is perfection. I love it! Goes so perfectly with your surroundings. And what gorgeous houses!!
Are those floral shoes?! So cute.
I have those tights from Target, too! When I put mine on, the flowers went up the side... but I think if you twist them a litle they'll wrap around instead. Actually, I think I like the flowers wrapped around better!
Those houses are gorgeous, I love old wooden houses like this.
You seem to go on loads of really interesting day trips haha!

GORGEOUS homes! I love your outfit too. Vintage but totally modern. Someone back then would not have worn those tights! You totally inspire me to visit places around MN and go on adventures. My dream is to own a historic home too. Someone at work said they only buy new homes and I was shocked! Well more old homes for us eh?

It must have been so, so cool to explore those houses. I can't believe all the exterior details people used to take the time to add to homes. Your outfit is perfect for the setting! I really like how you wore the floral tights and flats with the simple black-and-white dress.
These houses remind me of Chuck's home on Pushing Daisies! Beyond gorgeous.
These houses are so amazing! Your outfit fits the theme perfectly. If you're ever over here on the east Coast I am stealing you for a day and we're going to tour the Newport Mansions in R.I. They're my favorite and you'd love them. I love imaging what it would have like to live in them when they were new!
These houses are beautiful! and so are you :) x
Those houses are GORGEOUS and so well preserved. You're lucky to be able to snoop around them! You look like a happy and cute Wednesday Adams but it definitely fits the more gothic feel of Victorian architecture. I'm digging the collar on the dress too. You're adorable as always!
Loving the styling of this shoot and the beautiful collar on your dress. Gorgeous as always :)

Looks like you had a lovely time, the pictures are great! The dress is beautiful too!
My home is 300 years old, which is charming but they take a little more attention and money than a new build, so bare that in mind! Totally worth it though!
Also, your tights are great, i have a thing for coloured/patterned tights at the moments and would love some like yours!
Love your blog, keep up the good work!!
