Brett and I took a spontaneous day trip on Saturday to explore two lighthouses we haven't been to yet! I've decided that we are such old people. It was honestly the best day ever... and it was spent traveling up the coast of Lake Michigan searching for lighthouses! But we both had so much fun. We absolutely love lighthouses and living in Michigan is perfect, because we have hundreds. First, we headed up to Shelby, Michigan to look for Little Sable Point Lighthouse. This was was located at the end of a dead-end drive in a state park. It was so tall! We loved it!

We had such perfect weather. It was so warm and the sunshine was perfect for a day of adventure. I love that my car is always full of sand from our trips we take. Living in Michigan suits us so perfectly. We kept talking about it all day long... how much we love living here. We have so many trips and plans for this summer - just in our state alone! I can't wait to take all of them.

After that, we headed up another hour north to Ludington to check out Big Sable Lighthouse! We pulled into the state park and parked... and got out and saw a sign that said "Lighthouse 1.8 miles". But you couldn't drive to it - it was all on foot! We were so shocked! I've never been to a lighthouse where you couldn't just drive right up to it! So we set out on foot, through the dunes, 2 miles to get to the lighthouse. It felt like such an adventure!

We kept seeing signs for "Historic Shipwreck" and we had to go check it out. It's a shipwreck that washed right up on shore in 2004! You could see a few elements of the wreck right on the beach. How awesome is that?! Then finally, in the distance, we saw the lighthouse. It's just so much more fun when you travel so far to reach something like this... and you finally see it. Like the time we explored the secret lighthouse last summer. So. much. fun.

The lighthouse was gorgeous. It was amazing to see to see the lighthouse on a little pointe of Lake Michigan where you see the lake from the west and north. After that, we explored the downtown strip of Ludington and ate dinner at a cute Italian restaurant. What a seriously fun day... I can't wait to start traveling more now that the weather is so lovely! We made a little video below! A little bit shaky, but I'm so excited to start doing more video. Have a great week, everyone!

what a fun little trip! you two inspire me to get out & see more of my pretty province!
Such fun! I wish there were more accessible lighthouses where I'm from, I love them too! And they are so perfect for taking pictures. (:
I loove the little video Tieka! Apparently Brett likes to jump in the sand, no? Haha. Next time you should bring a tripod so you can both be in it! <3
there is something so magical about being close to the ocean. I really want to live closer to it some day.
I love how you make casual so stylish!
this looks like so much fun. i bet putting all these pictures of the lighthouses into a collage or framed near each would look amazing :)
oh and your video is too cute- i love lemuria as well too! :) i've been wanting to start doing some more videos as well. would you mind sharing what video editing software you use?
You guys seem like such a fun, easy going couple! I love reading about your fun adventures... in a way I sort of feel like I actually know you guys! :D

I'm sort of obsessed with lighthouses even though I've never been to one. ever. haha is that normal? One day I will find one! Awesome pictures. It looks like such a perfect pretty day for this adventure!
I LOVE the video. I want to just jump in and hang out with you guys =)
I can one imagine how awesome it is living close to such a big lake. There are some here but there soo far away. Driving hours to sit on a frozen lake is not my cup of tea! haha! I'll just live vicariously through your awesome state!

The shorts look so comfortable:) I just made some from thrifted trousers, but the hem doesn't look as clean as I'd like.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.. I love love LOVE hearing about your adventures! This sounds like a such a fun day, and the weather looks amazing!
Your outfit is adorable too - those flats and that bag are a match made in floral heaven!! Hehe.
You really do live in heaven. Wow! Where I live it just snowed again this morning... I would kill for blue water and sandy beaches.
Amazing! I love lighthouses and the shade of green of your sweater. Thank you for posting :)

I love lighthouses too! And wow, these pics turned out so well! But you didn't use any vintage effects?
And I love your 'adventures style' :)
Simple outfit and cute accessories! Love those shoes, I was thinking of you when I saw them the first time, hehe!
It looks like you guys had an amazing time!

i love your hair!
the scenery is so beautiful, i feel like i've been missing out. i've never seen a lighthouse in real life before :(
Ooo I really love the shorts you are wearing!
That does sound like so much fun. I really love living in my city too, but sometimes I wish there were more outdoors-y things to do - plenty of museums etc but no shipwrecks to explore in the neighbourhood.
Aw what a cute little video! You've totally inspired me to make little films of my adventures this summer.
I love playing in the Dunes! Running up and down the hills is the best part! Lovely footage.x
cute outfit and you guys look great together :)
lighthouses are the BEST!

I want to jump in the sand the same way. haha. Lighthouses look so amazing and a bit mysterious.
What a perfectly perfect day for your trip!! Aren't lighthouses the best? Were they closed to visiters? Usually I can go up into the ones around Virginia Beach.
Love your photos so much! Did you edit them with PS? If yes, you really have a good skill! So envy about it. :)

I love taking random trips with my boyfriend to gorgeous places, just like this.
I'm so jealous of where you live!
That video is the cutest, so excited you will be doing more of these! I'm so jealous of your side of the state, but maybe I should just do more research and find fun things to see near us! You look so beautiful and happy miss Tieka, I look forward to more of your fun summer adventures! :)
Oh, what a pretty beach! I love your sunglasses, they are adorable on you! And in the video, I absolutely love the part when it flashes to you sitting under your little stick fort! SO funny and cute!
I love when you write about all the little trips you do! It must be so nice to live somewhere near lakes or the sea. I'm too far away from the coast for lighthouses, what a bummer!
You look cute as usual :)
My favorite thing about your blog is seeing all the places you visit (and also how you match your location). My family is from Michigan and while I haven't seen a lot of their lighthouses in person, we have lots of books and calendars featuring the famous lighthouses. I really like your shorts because of the length. I think I have your sunglasses! They're such a great vintage-inspired shape.
I LOVE it!!! The Shelby lighthouse was one of my absolute favorite when i lived in kalamazoo. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Looks like such a great time! I love checking out all the lighthouses in the OBX whenever we go for vacation...

Looks like such a fun trip! I'm worried I may have rubbed you the wrong way at the Blogger Meet-up when I said I hate Michigan...I just hate living in a suburban area and I'd feel the same way in any state. I do think we live in a beautiful state and I love lighthouses and exploring around the great lakes. I've been on the whole great lakes circle tour and some of the landscapes here are just so breathtakingly beautiful that I can never believe my eyes! When I was in art school I funded a trip around the state collecting stories from strangers and shot a film on 16mm that celebrated the unique beauty of Michigan...unfortunately the processing lab that I shipped all of my film off to lost all of my footage. I really liked the idea though and I'd like to pick up the project again sometime in the future. Reading your blog always reminds me of the great things about living in this state that I sometimes overlook while dreaming about moving to far off places.
awesomeeeeeeeeeee outfit!!!

Boo I can't watch this at work :( I will come back to it though.
I love the shoes and sweater! Very cute look for a day out :)
I love that you guys love MI sooo much. Kyle and I do too. Most of our friends hate it here, the cold winters, the muggy summers but I love it. I need to spend more time exploring the mitten, we spend most of our vacations in the UP :)
So excited for more of your travel posts, you are making me want to go explore places!

Gosh, what a fun date and the weather looks gorgeous :) You two are too cute!
The photographs and stories make me seriously consider ditching Chicago and citylife for the simplicity of a different sized town.

Oh, this is so cute! I am so jealous about the weather! In Germany it's still pretty cold and I can't wait for it to become warmer! And you seemed to have so much fun! Really adorable :)
I love exploring the area around my town- there are so many places to see ,spend a lovely morning and come back and really cheers you up!
I'm pretty positive there are no lighthouses in Iowa, haha, but these pictures as fantastic! And it's so great you love where you live and you are still having fun exploring. I've never seen a lighthouse in real life, maybe that'll become a goal of mine :) oh and you look super adorable as always!

It sounds like an amazing plan! Sometimes I feel my boy and I are "old" too. We love spending our time in day trips haha.
These lighthouses are just perfect. I see it wasn't windy. Lucky girl!
Have a great week.
Looks like such a great adventure!!!
This sand gives me hope that better weather days are ahead for all of us (jus posted about snow shoeing... Canadian Spring is still far!).

The Michigan chamber of commerce needs to sponsor your blog, or something. Great photos, love the video. Brett jumping in the sand all the time cracked me up.

I love your enthusiasm for state landmarks! It's very refreshing. Lighthouses are definitely a favorite on my family trips. They're always so fascinating.
Aw how fun! We used to go to the coast of Maine when I was little and there were lighthouses everywhere! They are just so fun and so fitting for the beach.
I love those shorts! Kinda a different look from you, but I love it and it's perfect for a little day trip!
Wonderful shots Tieka, cute outfit n I love light houses...=D
This is making me want to go on lighthouse adventures so bad! I seriously cannot wait for summer to be here and school to be out! You too look adorable as usual. I love you video!
Love your outfit and that video is awesome. You two look like you had a blast. I love the light house. I dream of being a light house inn keeper and living by the sea. Just lovely all around.
Aw, I remember living in Michigan when I was little and going to Ludington to go on the car ferry across to Wisconsin! :) Whenever I see beach-y pics it always reminds me of exploring with my family when we lived there. :)
Cute pics!

Another adorable video, my favourite part is your gallop across the sand. That, and Brett jumping down the hill because I know my guy would do the same thing (boys at heart lol).
Love seeing vids like this, you guys go on the cutest weekend adventures <3
Love your sunnies and your flats, soo cute:)

Such a cute photo shoot! There are tons of lighthouses here in oregon, I should really take advantage and take a couple shots!
I so miss Michigan! We lived just outside of Kalamazoo and went to the lake just about every weekend beginning in June and ending in late September...and Liddington was our favorite place to camp! The 'hidden' lake was our favorite spot to canoe and discover old cabins and little beaches....we've now been away for just as long as we lived there.....thanks for the photos - such memories!
i love these photos and love your blog!
Please check mine out and if you like what you see follow! Id love the support! xx
