Our first stop along our Northern Michigan trip was Point Betsie Lighthouse! Brett and I had been here before to shoot a wedding last autumn, but we wanted to come back and take our own photos this time! We picked up dorky t-shirts in the gift shop, toured the lighthouse and spent a little time down on the beach! It was so windy and really cold right on the water! We were taking photos and I got soaked by the waves crashing up on the pier. My hair is always doomed to be curly on our trips anyway!

Point Betsie Lighthouse is located about five miles north of Frankfort, Michigan and just south of Sleeping Bear Dunes! I love the view from the tower because you can see Sleeping Bear Dunes and both South and North Manitou Islands. Point Betsie is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the United States and likely the most visited tourist attraction in Benzie County!

We always end up with old man and wife tour guides. Usually they are staying for a few weeks or the summer to give tours and work on renovating the lighthouse. It's so funny because they always love Brett and I. It's because Brett and I are a young couple... that love to do old people things. Touring lighthouses along the shoreline of Lake Michigan is a retired couple's dream! I'm glad we're some of the corniest 20 somethings out there!

I kept my outfits fairly simple on the trip! I wanted to do a lot with pattern mixing and matching my outfits to my locations. I packed five or six pairs of flats! Flats are a must when climbing up endless spiral steps to a lighthouse tower! Especially on the lighthouses where you can step outside at the top, you need something steady. It can be so windy at the top and it's kind of freaky to look down! Have you guys been up to a lighthouse tower before?

Seriously ... is there anything better than being a young couple doing cheesy old couple things! My BF & I love to do those historical tours in sleepy towns. I say embrace your inner 80 years old. BTW I think your wind blown hair looks romantic ...

I love your hair like this! You look absolutely adorable and I love the plaid and polka dots together! I wish I wasn't landlocked and had more beaches and such around! I've never even been to a lighthouse and I see them all the time in your pictures! I'm so jealous! It's one of my life goals now!

this lighthouse is so beautiful!!!wow!ur photos are so pretty :) great polka dot top!
My husband and I are possibly going on a garden tour next weekend and I was just wondering if we'd be the youngest people there. I'm pretty sure we might be.
I've never been to a lighthouse but I really want to.
I feel like my husband and I would be your couple soul mates if we lived in the same place! We love doing old people things too :) And I'm pretty sure my husband listens to the same music as yours... if i say August Burns Red, Devil Wears Prada, Confide do they ring a bell??
I hope my future husband and I are every bit as corny as you and Brett: it's adorable! and I love your outfit... it's such a perfect yet simple summer outfit.
xo, nicole
This looks like such a pretty place! I don't think I have ever been inside a light house before, I may have as a baby but I don't know haha. I really love lighthouses though, Kyle and I hunted one down on Pelee Island in CA a few weeks ago, they are just so beautiful.
I really love your casual outfit, pattern mixing is awesome :) I am totally a flats girl too! Have you invested in any loafer/boat shoes? I love them for vacations :)

Hehehe...I love doing old people stuff with Zach too. We got some disillusioned looks while on our tudor mansion tour last weekend since we're so young.
I love your outfit for traveling!! That body suit is adorable with that plaid shirt over it.
I love lighthouses! Well, actually I love anything old and historic....lighthouse tours combined with staying at b&b in an o,d Victorian is like a dream vacation!
The pics are beautiful, and I love that you paired polka dot with plaid....I may have to try that!

I love doing cheesy old couple things. That's basically all me and my boyfriend do. lol.

:) I grew up camping on Montauk Point. There's a lighthouse there we would always visit & these photos remind me of it. I remember standing on the top of the lighthouse and it was so windy I could literally lean forward & put all my body weight against the wind and it would hold me up.
Anyways, you two are super cute. I love your outfit. That flannel shirt looks perfect for the windy beach & I love it mixed with the polka dots!
Okay you guys officially do the most fun field trips ever. EVER! You look like your'e having so much fun!
Okay, first of all, I just love all of these pictures! And your outfit!! I know what you mean about climbing lighthouse towers. The spiral staircases and narrowness kind of freak me out but it's still always a must to climb up to the top!
aw this looks like a good time! i love that you did those things together. and youlook super cute - love all the patterns. :)
I LOVE this look you two are so darn cute!
your top is so pretty and i love hte polka dot/plaid mixture!

These photos are gorgeous! I love the photos of you down at the water. I've never been to a lighthouse tower before. Something to add to the list of things to do! :)
You look so beautiful in that picture of you with your hair blowing in the wind. (You look beautiful always, but I love that first picture!) And you two are such an adorable couple! This looks like a lovely, idyllic trip. I love lighthouses.
this is soooo cute! I love the photos, the waves, and especially the plaid shirt with polka dots!

I love the first photo, you just look so blissful!
and are you guys wearing name tags? haha, it's adorable!
your hair looks awesome windswept and wavy! i like the sideways grin (like you kind of know you're rocking it and you can't fight the elements).
Great mix of prints!
I really like this outfit! The shorts are cute too. And lighthouses seem like such fun.
I like the polka dots paired with plaid, it's fun. I've been on lighthouses in France before. Earliest memory is when I was still in kindergarten and my dad took me on a bikeride to a (red & white striped) lighthouse during our summer holiday. In my memory he dangled me over the edge (a la Michael Jackson) but I'm pretty sure that isn't what happened :)
of course the old couples would love you, you guys are the cutest! i love that you love doing old ppl things, its so fun sometimes and you look like you had a great time there. xo
Wow, this looks like such a great trip! I wish we had some lighthouses around here! Me and shane are like that too - we love going to old country houses and places like that and we're usually the youngest people there haha! Your hair looks really nice in these photos - lovely outfit too!
Lighthouses are such picturesque buildings. I went to one last year that was used in the television program, "Round the Twist" (an Australian show) and it looked so pretty in photos. (This was the post: http://raspberriesinwinter.blogspot.com/2010/12/round-twist.html)
I like the pattern mixing!
I've never been to a lighthouse before but it looks beautiful :) and I can understand you and Brett: Moreno (my man) and I are always doing old people things and the old couples that we meet in our trips are always so lovely with us :)
I love your outfit, this print mix is so you!

You know, I have YET to ever get to go see a lighthouse! After your pictures, though, it's definitely made my list of things to do. I love how windy it looks - where I'm at it's horribly hot and humid, so the idea of wind is enviable! :)

What a lovely photos. That first one of you is incredible! I wish I could get my boyfriend to go on trips more often. He's just on for sitting down the whole afternoon playing his playstation... I'm one for adventures, it clashes sometimes :p x
Pt. Betsie is one of my happy places in this world. I've never been inside the light house though - I love the photos you took! Weekend adventures are the best...I've decided to not let another weekend go by without at least a mini-adventure to look forward to :)
P.S. - I love the plaid shirt!
You two are so cute! I'm glad we're seeing more of your hubs lately. And I love old people things too, so you and I would get along just fine. : )

I love reading about you and Brett's adventures! You guys are so cute! I've only been outside of lighthouses, never up top. Someday!

I love the pattern mixes between the polka dot and the plaid. It's such a daring mix, but it works! And I know exactly how it feels to go on a trip and feel like the young couple but in the end its fun to try things out of the norm!

Looks like so much fun! I love lighthouses but when you're right up at the top and it's windy I'm always terrified! It's the same in castles when you're up in the turrets!

I love when you get old people/couples as tour guides! They're always more interesting, anyway! The photos turned out so beautiful! I really love the ones of you by the water!
My boyfriend and I do old people things too. We wouldn't know what to do with ourselves in a club... we'd probably order wine and start talking about antiques. haha!
You know I ve never been on a lighthouse ever- and back in greece lighthouses are small- and there is noone living inside- there is just a place for sb to stay during his shift!
but I really like them and I ve heard here in Uk you can actually rent a lighthouse for the weekend and stay and it has been in my wishlist for so long!
so, conclusion, I am so jealous of your area :)
Looks like you had a lovely time. Great pictures.
love your polka dots! you are so cute!! <3 EverRubyGirl.blogspot.com
You guys seem like such a sweet couple! I love your plaid shirt...it lends itself well to the old couple feel :)

The tallest lighthouse in South Africa is just twenty minutes from my house and I've climbed it to the top before but when it comes to stepping out the door to walk on the balcony up top I completely freak out.
Absolutely beautiful pictures lady! you look gorgeous as always :)
damn girl. I love them polka dots and plaid mixing. Who would have thought it would work so well. You are giving me ideas!

I love reading about your adventures. My fiancé and I love doing stuff like this! We just signed up to the National Trust in England which gives us membership and entry to loads of places like castles, museums, parks, stately homes and lighthouses. It costs over £50 and my friends think I'm crazy but I can't wait to make the most of it and visit some great places over the summer. Our first trip was to a lighthouse a couple of weeks ago. X
Such cute shorts, looks like a really fun trip too. Ah, Michigan. :)
