Fences on the beach

A couple of weekends ago, there was a little clothing swap in Grand Rapids that coincided with a craft fair and I spotted this red shawl. I was so surprised nobody picked it up yet! First off, I adore red - especially in winter months. Second off, it's like a stylish blanket! So cozy. I'd love to pair this with a cute green dress for the upcoming holidays.

If you live in a beach town, it's just so typical to take a drive down by the lake to see what's new. Anytime there is a big storm, we instantly say, "Let's drive down to the beach!" I love having Lake Michigan a couple of miles away from our apartment. When I get home at night, sometimes I can hear the waves and I love it. I don't think I could live in a town that didn't have a lighthouse either. Silly, right?

It's an unreal dream of mine to live in a lighthouse someday. I know it's not possible, but I think about it all the time. Every time we visit a new lighthouse, especially one that has a home attached, I envision where I'd have my studio, our bedroom, our living room. I imagine climbing the tower with our kids, sitting at the top watching the sunset and writing a blog called, "The Lighthouse Keepers" that documents our life in the lighthouse. Yes, yes, I'm an idealist! ;)

Two to Tango dress c/o ModCloth
Thrifted knit shawl

I used to dream of living in the York, Maine, lighthouse when I was younger, it's on a little island and you have to take a funicular to get to it! SO cute!

I love this outfit, looks stunning on you and I adore shawl, I actually wore one today that I'm posting tomorrow!

Aww, lighthouse life sounds dreamy! I watched a really cool home renovation show recently where a family converted a historic water tower into a house, it looked like so much fun to live in!

Gorgeous photos. I'm a beach town girl at heart too. If I can't be at water's edge in a few minutes drive, I feel claustrophobic.

I can't imagine not living by a big, beautiful lake...I love how it looks on stormy, windy days. So inspiring and lovely. It's my dream to live in a pretty, beach cottage on the East Coast. :) It'd be so cool if you really could someday live in a lighthouse! You can always wish, right? :)

I can understand your love for Lake Michigan, I wish I would live by a lake too, it must be wonderful! I always say I couldn't live in a place without a river since I live here in Duesseldorf, but I think I could forget about the river if i had a lake instead :)

This shawl is so pretty, I love red too, especially dark red, it adds something autumnal to every outfit somehow. Long story short: you look beautiful as usual and I'm always jealous because of your dreamlike photo locations (and because your husband is so nice to take your photos). My boyfriend is too lazy. I need a tripod soon... ;)

Beautiful shawl, it really brings out the brightness in your outfit. I really like the pattern of the tights - so intricate and detailed.

I just ran into your blog which I find amazing! Plus I am married to a Michigan man and we are going to Michigan next January (I know odd time to go visit). As a French girl, I barely know how to walk in the snow and dress for that type of temperatures. I cannot wait to see what you will put for that season!
