An old silo

Happy weekend, everyone! Well... for me at least. I'm off for five whole days! I'm so excited. I have an amazing weekend planned for us. We're up to all of our old tricks - lighthouses, off the beaten path tourist traps, historic villages, shipwrecks, festivals... and lots of cherries. Can anyone guess whereabouts we're going in Michigan? We'll be leaving tomorrow morning and heading back home before the 4th, so we can spend it with friends in the city. So excited!

We've had some storms rolling in tonight. It's been a pretty strange summer so far. It's been cold, then super hot, then stormy, then cold, then sunny. The weather can't figure itself out yet! I'm not complaining about tonight though... the atmosphere was amazing. We took a drive down past the beach and the sky was so dark. June gloom had to hit one more time before July arrives tomorrow!

This is probably my favorite outfit I've worn in the past few months. Lately I've been taking the simple route with my outfits and I've been getting a little bored! Sure it's easy to throw on a pair of jeans with a simple top, but it's not any fun! When I first started blogging, I was a lot more daring... and dressed how I wanted despite the crazy looks and I want to get back to that point. Here's to a summer full of wearing exactly what I want to wear... everyday!

This skirt is probably my favorite skirt ever... and it's not even mine! It's going around to the girls in the Delightful Dozen currently. The length, the print, the material, the shape... everything about it is perfect. Do you think the girls would notice if I didn't ship it off to the next person? Hehe! So far Julie and James have both styled it up... you can see how they wore it at our Facebook page!

I hope you all have an amazing 4th of July weekend! I'll be back on Tuesday with tons of outfit photos from our crazy, adventurous weekend. Be safe and enjoy lots of sparklers, BBQ, fireworks, friends/family and fun!

Binder Park Zoo

This past weekend, I headed down to Battle Creek to go to Binder Park Zoo! I had never been before and it was a lot of fun. We have a really great zoo in our city, but sometimes it's nice to experience a new place! This zoo had tons of walking trails and you could take a train to get to certain parts! I went with a few good friends, and just had a simple, fun day at the zoo!

We were able to purchase lettuce to feed to the giraffes! It was so crazy how their tongues stretched out to get their food! It was super fun. It was definitely the highlight of our trip! I always really love the monkey exhibits though. My favorite animal at the zoo is the gorilla. Binder Park Zoo didn't have any gorillas though. Bummer! I think the next zoo I want to check out is Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago!

I kept it very simple with my outfit. It was pretty warm outside and I wanted to wear flats for walking all day. I received this dress via the Delightful Dozen. It's Starr's and I'll be doing a post soon with how each of us have styled it up so far! It's just a perfect, striped summer dress that is easy to throw on and feel comfortable. I felt super odd without a belt though. Haha!

Past Summer Favorites

Since our summer weather isn't here yet, here are my favorite outfits from last summer! We took so many photos at the beach. It's just the perfect backdrop for summer outfits! Last year I was still in love with floral dresses, wedges, open backs, dresses that buttoned up the front and cute summery hats or headbands. I'm suspecting this summer will be the same... with some floral denim shorts, wood heels and wedges, wayfarer sunglasses, coral lipstick and messy buns!

57 degrees

Phew, beware, this is a bummer post! It's 57 degrees here today and freeeeezing. One of our favorite Mexican restaurants in town closed down. We just bought a new lens for my camera and it made our photos super bad quality! We're having issues with getting pre-approved for a mortgage on a house we absolutely love. I'm doing so terrible on my diet. I just received new contact lenses after an eye appointment and they are so blurry and I can't see a thing! Wah wah wah. Everyday can't be peachy, right? At least there is a cute puppy in the background of my photos!

On a good note, I received my Warby Parker package today! I'm trying out five pairs of their glasses to see which ones I like. I already decided on these within the first five minutes. I love them! I can't wait to get them in a prescription. I haven't had really nice glasses since 8th grade! I sometimes wear fake glasses, but it'll be nice to have real ones for days my eyes don't feel like wearing contacts!

I've been super lazy with everything lately. Outfits, dieting, exercising, getting work done. I think it's the cold, gray weather, but sometimes I just wonder if I'm using anything I can as an excuse! I can't believe this post was a year ago... so hot outside and look at those legs! I really need to start training for the 5k that's at the end of July... and start dieting again! It's so easy to get off track!

Featured Blogger: Seventh Edition!

For my summer featured blogger, meet Eleanor of Bonjour Bbydoll... if you haven't already, of course. I absolutely adore Eleanor. She's the sweetest friend ever and blogging wouldn't be the same without her. She has incredible style (she's my style twin!) and we are constantly swapping each other's clothes even though we live on opposite ends of the world. Be sure to check out her blog... and her interview questions! You'll love her! Promise!

1. What made you decide to start a fashion blog?

I've thought about this for a long time and I can quite honestly say - you! When I first started my blog, it had no direction and I had no idea what I was doing. Then I stumbled across Selective Potential and had a little 'aha!' moment - this was what I wanted to do! I read your whole blog within a few days, was completely inspired by you, subscribed to a million other style blogs and quickly started posting my own outfits. It's taken me a long time to find my feet and I still feel like a total newbie (after a year!) but I'm so happy I started fashion blogging.

2. What is another passion of yours besides style/fashion?

Food! I haven't had much time for it lately, but I love cooking, baking and most of all - eating. It started when I became a vegetarian nearly four years ago and has definitely become one of my biggest passions. I love finding fun new recipes, tackling new baking projects - like macaroons! - reading food blogs and watching cooking shows. Especially Nigella Lawson, who I have a serious lady-crush on!

3. What are you studying at university?

I'm studying English, History and French under a Bachelor of Arts. What I actually study is different each semester, but I love it. I just finished a comedy paper in which we were studying TV shows like Friends and Black Books, and next semester I'm looking forward to a food writing paper. My study is a whole world away from my style blog, apart from the writing aspect - and the French in my blog name! ;)

4. Tell us about Morne!

Morne is my amazing, kind, fun, funny, wonderful boyfriend! (He told me to write that.) Haha! It's true though. We've been together for nearly three years now and go to university together, where he's a psychology student. He's a big gaming nerd and also my awesome outfit photographer! He was never interested in photography before I asked him to take pictures for me, but he is really supportive of my blog and does such a good job.

5. What are some of your favorite blogs?

Apart from your blog, I absolutely love M Loves M, Postcards From, Orchid Grey, Here Comes the Sun and Tick Tock Vintage.

6. Where do you get your inspiration?

Mostly from style blogs, of course! I read close to one hundred, eek. I also get a lot of inspiration from magazines like Frankie and my favourite TV shows - I want the style of Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl crossed with Rachel Berry from Glee, haha! Lately I've also been inspired by stylish girls I see in real life. If I see someone at university or out shopping in an amazing outfit, I always make a little mental note for later on!

7. What do you love most about living in New Zealand?

There is a lot to love about living in New Zealand and I actually think I've taken it for granted for a long time, because I'm always wishing we weren't so far away from everywhere. But this is part of why we are so unique and cool. We are still influenced by the US and Europe for sure, but New Zealand has got its own little thing going on. I love our music and our fashion designers and our beautiful beaches and our food. We've got the Naked and Famous, Karen Walker and pavlova! And even though I've been pining for a white Christmas ever since I was a kid... I love having Christmas in the summertime.

8. What are your career dream goals?

Becoming a magazine journalist has been a dream of mine since I was ten. I visited the offices of my favourite teen girl magazine when I was 14, read Teen Vogue religiously up until very recently and still love taking in each and every page of my favourite magazines - no matter how many blogs I read online. I can't wait to finally pursue a career in it after I finish my postgraduate studies!

9. What's your favorite thing to do on the weekend?

Typically I work most of the weekend - I have a part time job at an awesome stationary store called kikki.K. But when I have free time I love going on fun little dates with Morne. I'm happy if we just see a movie, stuff ourselves with popcorn and frozen cokes, and peruse our favourite shops, where I'll convince Morne not to buy the expensive comic book or Xbox game and he'll talk me out of buying more shoes! Haha! If all that happens, my weekend is made. I'm also very much a homebody so at some point my weekend involves hanging out at home with baking, good TV and my laptop!

10. Any new tips for bloggers you'd recommend?

Blog because you love it, not because you want followers or tons of comments. It's easy to become competitive and unfairly compare your blog to all of the other amazing blogs out there. But blogging should be something that you enjoy and that makes you happy - not something that makes you feel bad about yourself! I had to think about that a lot when I first started out. Also - make friends! I love that blogging lets you connect with like-minded, stylish young women on the other side of the world that you might not have had the opportunity to get to know otherwise! If you really love somebody's blog, email them and tell them. That's how my friendship got started with you, Tieka, after all!

I hope you all enjoyed learning about Eleanor! I loved reading all of her answers... seriously. Sweetest girl. Be sure to head over to her blog and follow along! You can also follow her on Twitter! And if you're curious, you can check out my first six featured bloggers!

Tunnel Park

I took a little trip south to Holland, Michigan to grab a bite to eat and to check out Tunnel Park! My dad told me about this park a while back and I've been meaning to go. I got there and had to hike up a few stairs to get to the beach. It was so pretty! I couldn't find the tunnel though... and I had to walk down the beach a little bit to find it. It's always fun when you see something you've only seen in photos before. I don't know, maybe it's just me but it feels like an adventure!

I was snapping photos and I hear this guy singing quite loud... and his little kids making these howling noises! I couldn't see them, but I was cracking up when they came out. The guy looks at me and laughs and says, "It's the highlight of Tunnel Park!" Whenever you sing or shout in the tunnel, it is so loud and echoey! As soon as they got to the beach, they turned around and went through it again. So funny!

I received this so-cute floral dress from Chloe Loves Charlie! It's so Tieka. Sleeves, twirly, cut-out details on the back, florals. I could live in this dress. It's so comfortable... and the perfect length. I have so many dresses that are just way too scandalous to wear to work... or without tights even! It's really refreshing to have a dress you can slip on and not worry about. Especially come summer when I don't feel like layering much. It's been staying 70's here, so tights are still fine, but in a few weeks they definitely won't be!

I've been trying to plan weekends for trips and what not... and I cannot believe how fast summer is filling up! I've been trying to arrange a weekend to head down to Philly with Andrea to see Veronika... and even August is full already! It's so crazy how you wait months and months for summer to arrive and when it comes... it goes so quickly! I even started looking into hotels for New York for fashion week! I wish I knew the exact dates of events... haha! Anyone else going this year?

Be sure to head over and enter the Blowfish Shoes giveaway if you haven't already! I think this might be my biggest giveaway ever! I remember my first one... I was so excited when I hit over a hundred comments! Haha, aw. The simple successes you have when you start your blog. I'd seriously relive it all over again. It has been a blast!

Five blogs I currently love

It has been a bit of a crazy week and the blog has been a little slow, so I thought I'd show you some girls that are currently inspiring me! I read over 150 blogs and my Bloglovin' is always insane with unread posts, but I wouldn't have it any other way. These five girls have really truly stood out to me lately and I think they are each beautiful - inside and out - and of course, have amazing style to boot! Enjoy!
