The white boardwalk

Did you guys forget about me?!! Oh my gosh, I can't believe I haven't done a real post in so long. That was an unintentional blog break! Long story short, my luna green Beetle is no longer with us! We were on our way to a Tigers game and the engine ceased and it was going to cost over $3,500 to fix. So instead, we're selling it as is and bought myself a new car! I now have a 2011 Nissan Versa! I really love it so far, but it's been stressful getting my old car towed around, inspected by three different places and now trying to sell it. Last week was insanity.

Plus, my old phone kept giving me problem after problem, so I finally traded it in for an iPhone! I'm so excited! I absolutely love it so far. I think I'm most excited for Instagram. If you want, you can follow me! My name is selectivepotential! I haven't taken a photo yet, but plan on using it a ton! If you have any tips, let me know!

I've been trying to squeeze every moment out of summer that I can before it's gone! I've been so busy lately that it's been non-stop. I've only had my new car a week and I already have 600 miles on it. Isn't that nuts? Brett and I were able to head down to the beach the other night though and see the sunset. It was so pretty - the clouds were amazing. This dress from Stitched and Adorned was so fitting. I'd love to wear this to a cute festival!

Well, this week looks just as busy as I plan to leave for New York next Tuesday for fashion week! If you're going, definitely let me know! I'm for sure planning on the ModCloth Swap Party and the picnic in Central Park! Along with the FABB conference and attending a few FNO events! I'm so excited. It's going to be such a busy week but I'm going to love every second! Can't wait to see so many amazing friends again! If you can't make it to NYC this year, I'd definitely recommend signing up for INDIE. Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky and I are pouring ourselves into it again this year and I know it's going to be a ton of fun!

INDIE: Fall 2011 e-conference!

Hey everyone! I couldn't wait to get this post up... and get registration started, so I'm a day early! I'm so excited to announce that we are doing the INDIE e-conference again this NYFW. Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky and I started INDIE last winter when we both couldn't attend NYFW. It was an amazing success and we were so excited at the outcome that we couldn't wait to do it again this fall. INDIE will be different and unique this year because I'll actually be attending NYFW in the flesh! So you'll not only get our intensive sessions, but you'll receive behind the scenes views of fashion week as a typical fashion blogger! The focus of this e-conference is on fashion, but it will benefit you no matter what type of blog you run. We talk about everything from branding, to social media, community, networking, advertising, sponsors... you name it.

The e-conference will start on Tuesday, September 6 and end on Monday, September 12. We will have approximately 6-7 posts on each day of the e-conference with a huge variety of topics and events covered. We will also have some fun video posts on blogger events and random tidbits in New York City during fashion week. We also do surprise live chats throughout the conference so you can ask any and all of your questions, plus have a blast connecting with other bloggers! (Last year, a group of us stayed up so late chatting... it was one of my favorite blogging moments ever! Old Gregg!)

Plus, just by signing up, you'll automatically be entered to win some amazing giveaways from our sponsors. We'll spill more details soon.

This e-conference is available to all bloggers who are looking to ramp up their blog, learn what other bloggers learn during NYFW and be able to experience it from your own computer and pace at home.

The cost of the conference is $25 USD and you can register through Paypal by clicking the "sign up now!" button below. After we receive payment, you'll be sent your login info via email and once September 6th hits, log on and get ready for some serious fun!

Stairway to the beach

Are we really in the middle of August right now? It feels like we just started the month! I'm really looking forward to all of our autumn plans, but am still clinging onto these last few summer weeks! The end of summer is such a lovely yet bittersweet time in our town. I love how our little beach town comes alive with all of the tourists and summer activities!

Sometimes I feel like my outfits just plan themselves. I received this super cute sailboat bow from the lovely Johanna at Up a Tree Cup a Tea! I knew I had to head down to the water wearing this bow... and of course, there were so many sailboats out! It was perfect! You can purchase this bow... or another set of bows with vintage fabric I picked! I'll be styling those soon. She makes the sweetest items... and she's the sweetest girl.

This dress is from dee&ray! They are a new contemporary women's line created by Diana Ra. It's a great lightweight dress for hot summer days! I loved the cinched waist and buttons up the front. Their shop is coming soon... but you can still check out their fall collection!

Tomorrow I'll be guest posting over at Orchid Grey! I have a busy weekend ahead... a wedding on Saturday and a Tiger's game on Sunday. Now I'm super distracted by 'Coming to America' so I'm going to go watch the rest of it with Brett! Have a great weekend, everyone!

On the green grass

Helloooo! It's been a hop and a scotch since I last did an outfit post! Hm, did that even make sense? Probably not, but you know, that's how I roll. Mmmmmhmmmm. Anyway, yes. I'm hyper and distracted tonight! I'm sure you'll be able to tell by my crazy Tiek faces in these photos! Tiek faces, hehehe! If you've never met me, just know, I'm probably the weirdest, silliest person ever with my very own language, Tieklish. Oh boy!

These are the nights I adore being a fashion blogger. Perfect lighting, amazing temperatures, a pretty backdrop, a twirly dress, granny tapestry wedges, a mediocre hair day, a decent makeup day. All of those add up to a pretty great fashion blogger day, if you ask me! It's the troof. Plus, I'm feeling on top of it! I worked all day, then worked out at the gym afterwards, took outfit shots and here I am! Posting before 11 PM! Woot, woot!

The amazing Asian iCandy sent me over this dress to twirl about in! It's so pretty and unlike anything else I own. I love the sheer overlay, along with a built in slip underneath. I swear so many of my dresses are see-through and it's buggin. This is perfect... and I love the detailing at the top. I can only imagine the fun I'll have in this dress when autumn approaches. Crunchy leaves are my best friend. They smell good too.

Whelp, I just redesigned my Tumblr. I'm a slacker Tumblr user, but I figured I could start posting some stuff on there again. I was thinking of posting more weight loss/fitness stuff over there because I get a lot of comments and Formspring questions on it. Would you guys be interested in that? I'm seriously not the person to turn to for diet and fitness advice (my favorite food is chicken fingers and double fries) but I mean... I did lose 35 pounds. Gained 10 back, but you know... that's still 25 lost. And now I'm working on those pesky 10. (Bite me, 10!)

Lucky Magazine Feature

I was super excited to receive the opportunity to have a little feature in the September issue of Lucky Magazine! They contacted some of the Lucky Style Collective bloggers asking for ideas and I couldn't wait to contribute. They are doing a new spread every month called, On The Blogs, where they gather what's inspiring bloggers and share it with you guys in the magazine! I'm excited to see what they come up with every month. For mine, they asked us what we were loving for fall... and I'm a huge leather jacket girl in autumn, so I was excited to talk about one with a Francoise Hardy edge. Be sure to check out their September issue... it's so amazing and full of bloggers too!

Soul

Hi everyone! I just wanted to pop in real quick and share this amazing painting! One of my readers used one of my photos for inspiration. She changed it quite a bit to fit her style of painting, but isn't it absolutely wonderful? The piece is titled Soul. The photo she used for inspiration was taken from my Black Star Farms post. I can't wait to print it out and put it up in my blog studio. Thanks so much, Maria! Be sure to check out her website of all the work she has for sale!

Coast Guard City

Last night, I headed downtown to set out a blanket for fireworks. The streets are lined with carnival rides, games and food. Ships sail into town for tours and we have the best fireworks display for the Coast Guard Festival! The locals head out a day early and set their blankets out on the grass. Neat, right?

I caught the most beautiful sunset when I was down there. It only lasted for about 15 minutes and was gone but it was so amazing! I grabbed some ice-cream, walked around the carnival and sat out on my blanket for a while watching the musical fountain. Ugh, I just adore summer.

I didn't even plan it, but this dress actually goes very well with the sky! I received it from Jupe Boutique and it's a perfect go-to summer dress. It almost looks like a floral pattern, but it's more like bursts of color! Almost like a fun painting or something!

Tomorrow is the big grand parade that goes right past my apartment! I have a BBQ in the front yard with lots of friends and family coming. Our downstairs neighbors also have people and it's just a huge party. Then we all hang out for the day until the big fireworks extravaganza tomorrow night! Eee!
