TxSC Symposium

On the last day in Texas, I attended the TxSC Social Media Symposium. We finally had some nice weather. I was so thankful to see the sun and a few trees blooming! It was a great day of networking and learning. I listened in on quite a few of the panels and even had the opportunity to speak on one myself. I spoke with Turi of ModCloth on brands working with bloggers. I'm not much of a public speaker, but I had a lot of fun!

I was planning on just wearing the floral dress, but with the cooler temperatures, I paired this new polka dot top I just bought with it. I wouldn't have normally thought to put these two together, but I liked the way it turned out! I still love mixing patterns. There are just so many options to remix outfits when pattern-mixing. It's definitely been one of my favorite things to try style-wise lately.

(Veronika of Girl and Closet and I)

Our workshop was more geared toward brands than bloggers. Most of them were interested in different ways they could work with bloggers rather than your typical banner ad or clothing sponsorship. My very basic advice was... bloggers need an incentive to want to work with a company. Unless they are your best friend, they probably aren't going to want to work for free. And they shouldn't have to! It doesn't have to be money or clothes all of the time. I've worked with several sponsors because of a fun opportunity. Like my collaboration with Jess LC a couple of years ago was one of my favorite memories ever. I wasn't paid for modeling for her shoot, but I made a good friend and I loved the photos/videos from the shoot and the day spent doing it. It has to be mutually beneficial in some way shape or form for both parties involved!

I love your advice for the brands! Blogger do deserve compensation in some form for any and all work.
Also, the print on your dress is fabulous!

love your advice! wish I could have heard it all!

My blog is not very big yet, but I'd like to start connecting with businesses for sponsorships and giveaways. I did so on a previous blog I had and I loved it, but now I'm having trouble connecting with businesses...do you have any advice?

You look very pretty Tieka! I love the layers and patterns in this look. You are correct with the sponsering, it gets boring for the readers too! I remeber that post, and all of the cute pics. Great advice :)

I'm still a big fan of mixing patterns. You're exactly right: there are just so many options! It really is a great way to stretch your closet and keep your look fresh. And I think those Ruche wedges are my favorite pair of shoes that you own.

Nice print mix! I don't usually like it on me, but I love a good pattern mix on others. The realationship between brands & bloggers is such an interesting subject, I'd love to hear your speech.

Working with brands is such a tricky subject! I feel like there's a lack of a communication a lot of the time. But I am so thankful when I get an opportunity!

This is a great pattern combo, by the way. =) And your hair looks wonderful!
