Brick walls are the new railroad tracks

I've been wanting to do a strictly black and white photo post for a while now. I've always been a huge fan of black and white photography. It inspired me to try and add another level of detail in my outfit that I normally would just use color for. Plus, Brett and I just went to see The Artist... so that may have something to do with this as well. (I loved that movie SO much!) But it was fun to see how this came out!

I have to fully credit Brett for the title of this post. I haven't really figured out my "default" spot yet like I used to have in our other town on the railroad tracks. Brett said to me the other day, "Brick walls are the new railroad tracks." I was like... so true! There are plenty of neat walls in the city and you never clash with a brick wall, right? Looks like I found my new go-to!

Outfit details:
Forever 21 floral dress
Forever 21 lace top
Forever 21 socks

I love black and white photography, too! I have yet to do a complete outfit post using all black and white shots, though. These photos make all of the textures of the fabric stick out much more! Love the floral and lace :)

Love the black and white. And I like how you were really careful when choosing an outfit when you knew it would be in black and white. Great post. Love it.

Black and white photos are my favorite and The Artist was incredible! I always love to throw in a few B&Ws, but it's nice to see an entire post of them. Very nice!

Those shoes are killer, but they actually look comfortable. I wish I saw more people wearing socks and shoes as stylishly as you around Grand Rapids! It's generally tube socks and athletic flip-flops...

I love those shoes, and am a bit jealous that you pull off the socks-with-sandals concept so well!

And completely true about the brick walls. I think it's because they're so much more accessible than railroad tracks. And it's true that you can never really clash with a brick wall!

Also, this post just reminded me of a perfect location for one of my own future blog posts!

Oooohh... that is a lovely blouse. I have just discovered Forever 21 (it isn't in Aus) and I put in a huge international order. :D

Ugh. I get so sick of my defult spots (although I seem to enjoy the uniformity of other people's - it's almost like a photo frame). I don't have a lot of choice as due to working quite long hours, the only time I can get decent light is on my lunch break, and consdiering I live in an busy, hip, inner city suburb...well, it is hard to find a private and attractive spot.

PS Could you tell me about your name, sometime. I am rather obsessed with names and I have never heard yours before. It's very pretty. Is it pronounced Tee-Kah?

THOSE SHOES! They are very very pretty and I'm loving the socks under them. Always a fun look! And yes, brick walls are good. I've started realizing that I should take better advantage of our town having water on 3 sides of it when doing my outfit pictures.

I don't mean this in a bad way but why are your hands always so weird looking in these poses....they're always awkward..why don't you just pose normally?

Oo, I love this post, Tieka! These photos are amazing and you're right, the black and white really plays up the textures of an outfit! I love your inspiration, too - I want to see that movie so bad :)

I love black and white photos too and have been wanting to do a black and white photoshoot! I'm thinking mine would just be head shots though so definitely simple. I like how your outfit still looks great in b&w :)
