Carnival in the park

This past weekend, Brett and I headed out with a couple of friends to a local carnival in John Ball Park! This is always one of my favorite times of year because the weather is getting nicer... and it's our first carnival of the season. Unfortunately, they had zero good rides to ride! So we walked around for a bit scoping the scene. Carnivals are one of my favorite things ever about summer. We love riding dorky rides and eating junk food. Who doesn't, right?

So my life has been a bit crazy lately wearing these glasses! I know that sounds weird, but it's honestly life changing. I've worn contacts since I was 13 and there are so many things I took for granted. Like... how in the heck do girls with glasses take showers and know if they're hitting all of the spots on their legs when shaving?! Or how do you go running without them bouncing all over the place? All I can say is... I'm counting the days until I can wear my contacts again. If you're not used to wearing glasses, it's so hard to adjust! It looks like it's going to be about another month. Booooo!

My favorite carnival coming up is the old fashioned days. I can't believe I wore this outfit there two years ago already. It cracks me up how much I've changed... and how much I haven't changed. Brett and I are still totally the same people, but we're at such different places in our lives. I love how unexpected life can be. As much as I miss Grand Haven, I'm finally getting used to our place here and enjoying being in the city and so close to everything. But I am so excited for a hot summer day so I can head back to the beach and take it all in again.

I can't believe you've had contacts since you were 13! I tried them out after wearing glasses for thirteen years and it was so weird! I almost decided to go with contacts, but my back-up glasses were so cute I couldn't resist them. Back to glasses!

Also, when shaving, your sense of touch is key. XD

I love the outfit! Simple, but cute: totally up my alley! :D

i think you look adorable tieka. and those photos of the carnival with the sun hitting just right are gorgeous. i totally know how you feel about the glasses - how did i ever take a shower w/o seeing?! and the running on a treadmill thing...don't even want to think about it. well, i don't mean to make it harder on you. just want to say i hope the month speeds by for you and can start to get used to the glasses again. they're darn cute, girl! xoxo.

I am seriously in love with that ferris wheel in the background of your photos. And your outfit is wonderful. I love that hat!

Amen on the glasses. I switch back and forth between contacts and glasses and after wearing glasses for a few days I am always ready to pop those contacts back in!

That photo of you and Brett brings a smile to my face.

It's crazy to think of how much changes in two years--- even two months! I'm glad that things are moving forward for you two and that you're appreciating life, especially the small things like carnivals, because the small things are the big things! :)

Tieka, this post is SO adorable - as are you!! I seriously love that you pick such cute locations... and this outfit couldn't be more perfect. I'm loving your coloured jeans and you've styled them perfectly, really beautiful look!!

So sorry to hear you've had such a tough time with your glasses - I've been reading your tweets and I hope it all smooths out soon. Boooo is right!! Hope your week is fantastic! Smooches! V

If I could reblog this entire post, I would! I absolutely ADORE this post--your outfit, the photos, and what you wrote! I am totally with you on wearing glasses! I hate them! I can't even drive properly with them on because I forget that I'd have to turn my head instead of being able to look to the side. I miss you!

I've been wearing glasses since the fourth grade, and I've never tried contacts. The thought of sticking something in my eye just terrifies me! I'm honestly so used to my glasses that I normally forget they're on! I actually don't feel like myself if I'm not wearing them. It's definitely funny how we get used to things! You look adorable in glasses, though!

I've been wearing classes since I was eight, contacts since 13. I usually like to shower without my contacts in, so here's how I handle shaving my legs. I shave in the shower with one of those combo soap/razor things. I prop my leg up on the rim of the shower, swipe my razor up my leg, and bring my free up behind it, checking to see if I missed any spots. This is pretty fool proof and is generally how I see if I missed spots and general...if my skin is still prickly, I razor again.

I've worn contacts since I was 12 or 13 too and I know what you mean about adjusting to glasses.. sometimes I get headaches from wearing them too long. Lucky you you look adorable in them! And i love the red jeans!

Well the good thing is, you look completely adorable in your glasses! Unfortunately, I understand how weird it can be to wear glasses after being in contacts all the time. I can never get over the loss in peripheral vision. I don't even like to drive while wearing glasses because I'm scared I won't see someone in my blind spot or something haha. I hope you get to wear your contacts again really soon!

You're lucky that you look amazing in glasses!! I have a funny story about showering without glasses: my parents have both worn glasses since they were really young and are both now very short sighted. We were camping in the US a few years ago and stayed at one of those National Forest campgrounds, a place where the showers were pretty basic!! It wasn't until after my dad had got out the shower and put his glasses back on that he realised he had been sharing his shower with about 5 massive spiders, centipedes and other creepy crawlies!! Yucksss!!
Anyway, aside from that - amazing outfit, the jeans are a lovely colour =)

This looks like so much fun! I really love the pair of red jeans with the top, they look perfect together. I've recently started wearing jeans/jeggings more after not wearing them for almost 2 years haha!
Ahh, I wear contacts all the time too, but the funny thing is I never wear them in the shower. I changed over from daily ones to two weekly ones a couple months ago and the first time I went in the shower with them they nearly fell out of my eyes with the water hahahah! (I don't know how that happened) but now I'm too scared to wear them incase I loose them, so I have to shower blind. You get used to it eventually haha! But seriously, I have serious glasses envy right now. They are so cute - I could never pull those off.

You look beautiful in glasses, Tiek! I'm sorry you're finding it so hard to transition, though.
This whole post and outfit is perfect, right down to your nail polish! And that photo of you and Brett just about melted my heart! You guys are adorable.

Also, that carnival post from two years ago is still one of my absolute favourites of yours :)

Wow, that looks like so much fun (the carnival I mean). Lovely and bold in red, it's lovely.

I totally feel your pain about the glasses. I wore contacts from about age 13-22 but for the past two years started getting eye infections every time I wear them, or at least getting very red/itchy/dry/uncomfortable eyes. I've been wearing glasses now for the past two years and it pretty much blows, but every brand of contacts is still messing with my eyes. Saving up for LASIK I suppose!

Cassandra said...

This is so cute!! One of my favorite outfits of yours lately (its so different)!

I really love your glasses too. Just think of it as a costume for the next few weeks: channel a new persona for a short time. :)

Glasses were the cool thing to have in fourth grade, but by the time I got them in 7th grade they weren't so cool anymore. I would only wear them when I absolutely had to or when my mom would tell me to, haha. Now I love wearing my glasses. I haven't had contacts since the fall of 2010! Sorry you are sick of your glasses, but at least they look cute on you! :)

This is a perfect carnival outfit!

I feel your pain about the glasses. How do people go down stairs?! I used to constantly trip.

I invested in Lasik a few years ago, and it was honestly the best money I've ever spent. Save up for it! It will change your life!

a few things:

1) your outfit is so cute, it makes me actually want to get a chambray shirt to wear with my red pants

2) i love your glasses! where are they from?

3) re: shaving with glasses: either shave quickly first thing before the glasses fog up, or use lots and lots of shaving cream so you can keep track =)

i've worn glasses for 20 years now - i bet if i were to get contacts it would be just as weird for me as it is for you without them!

Nikki @ The Ginger Diaries said...

I never wore my contact when I showered. I just shaved, and rhen felt to see if I missed any spots on my legs, haha. I really love this outfit Tieka! It's super fun and simple :) x

you look gorgeous in glasses. But im the same as you, avid contact wearer and hate things like rain(glasses wipers needed!),steam like when you open the oven, not being able to see myself to put make up on properly. and i cant cuddle my hubby properly as i like to lay on him but feel they get in the way... anyway hope you get good eye news soon. But in the mean time you look super cute with them! :)

As a chronic four-eyes, I can attest--all those things you mentioned are hard. You use your hand to double check things will shaving, and a secure fit helps with running.

Super cute outfit, though. I've been eyeballing a very similar pair of black flats to replace my current, and I love how they look with your red jeans (which, since I wear my red jeans almost every week, is a good sign for the shoe style!)

Looks like you had ton of fun!

Hehe, loved this post! I only wear my glasses when I need to see far away (driving for example) and I can only imagine how annoying they would be if I wore them all the time. Hang in there, hopefully your eyes will make a quick recovery! At least your glasses totally look like a fashion statement, I would have thought they were an accessory to your cute outfit if I bumped to you on the street.

Much Love,
Lidi
