Summer solstice

Here we are... on the first day of summer! It's definitely been showing its face in Michigan lately. We've been experiencing some crazy hot and humid days. Today was in the nineties and I could barely get dressed. I've been living in sheer tops, high waisted shorts/skirts and top knots. Living in the city is a totally different experience than a beach town too. I can't just drive my scooter five minutes to Lake Michigan and dive right in anymore! I can't complain though. I remember this time last year, it was 57 degrees! I'll take ninety over that any day.

Life has been a little odd lately, but I've been having fun. I'm living in an awesome city with an amazing career and wonderful friends... I can't complain. I miss a bit of normalcy in my life though. As much as I love being all over the place lately, I'm kind of an old granny at heart who loves touring lighthouses, falling asleep at 9:30 PM once in a while and blogging her heart out. I definitely plan to start posting more outfits in July. It's a huge goal of mine and I have some fun ideas.

So now that summer is upon us, I really need to make a list before it's all of a sudden gone. I really want to... go camping, ride a roller coaster, swim in Lake Michigan, explore a new lighthouse, take a weekend trip to the sunrise coast, see an outdoor concert, watch fireworks, eat a pronto pup, sit by a bonfire, ride my scooter along the Grand River, be happy about turning 26, swing from a rope into a river at my family reunion, play some amazing Circle Maybe shows (yes, we're still going to continue playing!) and just live and be happy.

  1. you're lucky with the weather - it is always miserable here in washington until at least jul 4. ): this is also an adorable outfit and love the minnetonkas! this looks like such an outdoors, grass-stained summer outfit... looks like a good cold beer would fit perfectly in this shoot too.

  2. I'm glad that Circle Maybe is staying together. Alicia and I really enjoyed watching you at the DAAC.

If you're looking for a new day trip to take, I highly suggest going to Paris, MI or to the High Rollway. That's what I did this Father's day and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Here's a link to my post about it: http://2floralfinches.blogspot.com/2012/06/ice-cream-for-dinner.html

  14. I so wish you could send weather. The UK has been having constant rain for the past few months. It's getting so depressing now, so I'll just live vicariously through you haha!

I absolutely love the shirt and shorts together, and the minnetonkas too. Sadly I need a new pair as mine have stretched so much! Sounds like you're going to have a lovely summer! Hope you have a lovely week, Tieka!

  19. This weather is totally crazy, right? First such a flipflop of rain and cold for months, and now intense heat? Well, at least that's how it's been in boston. Last night I thought I'd melt in a pool of sweat, it was SO HOT at like 9pm, lol.

That sheer top is beyond cute! I'm diving into my closet right now to see if I can find something as cool and comfy!

  23. Haha, I am the exact opposite - I would gladly take 57 degree temps right now! It's supposed to reach triple digits in Boston today. Eek.

I can't believe you manage to look so cute, even in the horrid heat. I always look like such a mess!

  24. For a hot second I thought you chopped off all of your hair- like Ginnifer Goodwin. It's quite a change, but I think you could totally rock that look!

  25. You are so gorgeous, Tieka! This outfit is perfectly summery. I just thrifted a blouse with a similar neck tie, but the sleeves are so weird...maybe I'll cut them off and make it sleeveless. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love your summer goals. If you accomplish all those I'd say it'd be a pretty awesome summer! (I never jumped off a rope into a lake before...it sounds awesome!) And what else can one really hope for but just to live and be happy?

  39. I really like your striped blouse! I have also been living in sheer blouses and easy dresses lately. Summer's nice in the sense of adding some simplicity to the way we dress, but I admittedly prefer wearing layers.

I think I need to make a summer to-do list, too. I have a feeling it will be gone so fast (as it always seems to fly by), and I will have accomplished none of my goals.

  40. Regardless of the heat you look gawwwgeous! :) I can't wait to be back in Michigan in July! It's always that hot here in Georgia and I can't wait for cool nights!!

AND Matt is visiting Michigan for the first time ever. Hoooorray for summer!

  50. Hooray for summer! Thank god...

I really like your top. I've been looking for vertical-striped articles of clothing, lately. And it actually works with the leather belt and shorts! I'm always timid when it comes to brown and black getting near each other.
Many are bolder than I, I suppose!
    I love the look!

  51. Gaghh I missed your outfit posts so much! I feel like they've been so scarce this month! Looking forward to your new outfit ideas in July! :)

Also, I remember seeing that top at F21, but I was too chicken to get in because I thought I would look too much like a referee, ha! But you've convinced me that's just not the case so I'm probably gonna get it now ;) Plus I'm thinking about being BeetleJuice for this upcoming Halloween (a little ahead of myself), so this top would work perfectly!

    Have a lovely weekend!

  56. I know we have summer 75% of the year here in Australia (or at least what scandinavian's consider "summer") but right now we're in the middle of winter and I'm tired of the cold already. So watching the "rest of the world" enjoy summer is making me incredibly homesick...

Every summer though there's always so much I hope to do and because I never write a list, I forget about so many things so having a mini-to-do-list for summer sounds brilliant!
