Wear Red Day

February 1st was Wear Red Day, a movement that brings awareness to the American Heart Association. Did you know heart disease kills more women than all cancers combined? Pretty crazy, right? I know a lot of people dismiss it as an "old man disease", but it can definitely affect you. It's just a fun way for fashion to support and bring awareness to a big cause. I'm proud to support it. High cholesterol runs in my family, so it's something I'll have to think more about as I get older. Follow a healthy diet, be active and exercise, don't smoke and avoid secondhand smoke and get regular wellness exams from your doctor. Plus, tame your stress!

Well, even though these pictures were taken before NYFW, I'm back from the whirlwind weekend in NYC. It was a lot of traveling, but we had fun. I always enjoy seeing all of the blogger gals, meeting new friends (I'm now in love with Alex!) and getting a bit of sight-seeing and shopping in! On a bad note, I did terrible on my diet. I had the healthiest options everywhere too and yet I grabbed the pizza, and burgers instead. I'm definitely back on it today... hoping to still make half of my goal for this month. Eep! NYC, your food is too delicious!

I'll be back lots this week with recaps from fashion week and Valentine's Day posts. I honestly don't know how I'm going to squeeze it all in, but I'm going to try! I have so many photos to edit. None of my photos from the runway shows turned out, so I'll spare you the blurry snapshots. I'm really excited for Thursday and for a weekend to relax. Oh gosh, I'm already talking about the weekend and it's only Monday! Save me!

I love your outfit and photos. I am from Canada but currently living in Ireland. I can't say I miss the snow, but after seeing this pictures, with the big snowflakes falling, I kind of wish it would also snow here... but just for a day!

new york is meant to be explored with the senses..... taste is a huge part of that! do not beat yourself up too much, you had fun, and the diet bandwagon is always there around the corner ;)

Great coat. NY always sounds so magical.

That red lip is incredible on you -- do it more often!! Not a lot of girls can pull it off.

Also, for diet stuff, I remember my mom telling me some good advice. You don't lose 10 pounds because you ate healthy one weekend, and you don't gain 10 pounds because you ate unhealthy for one weekend. Creating a healthy lifestyle is more a weekend of bad choices! That always makes me feel better when I fall off the wagon.

I love this whole outfit. I'm glad you had fun in the big apple. I haven't been in years. A trip is in order for sure! I completely agree with you about heart disease. It is such a big killer and everyone seems to just brush it aside.
Can't wait to see more pics!

HA! I actually told my students last night to "have a nice weekend." I'm pretty sure they now think I've lost my marbles. It's just going to be one of those weeks, I'm guessing!

I'm a new reader and I just wanted to say that I LOVE seeing all the GR places in your photos and hearing about them in your posts! I grew up in GR but moved for college and have been living along the lakeshore for quite a few years but I'm excited to move back this summer! I'll have to check out some of the places you've mentioned that I haven't heard of/seen before :)

Since I have quite a few heart conditions (Neurocardiogenic Syncope, Tachycardia and Bradycardia) I will say thank you for supporting awareness for people like me! I definitely dismissed heart disease as the "old man disease" too.. until I was diagnosed in 2009. It was so scary at first because I instantly thought I was going to die (just like most people do when they're diagnosed with cancer.) It's definitely a great thing to raise awareness though because people don't realize just how serious your heart health really is.

Anyways, I absolutely love your outfit and I'm so glad you had a wonderful time in NYC! Don't worry about your WW diet, you enjoyed your time and that was the best part, right? ;). Can't wait to see more from your trip!

Gorgeous photos. I really like the sweater, but what really caught my eye were the socks and shoes combo. Too cute!

Lovelovelove these shoes! I saw similar ones at Madewell, but they were sold out.

I love this outfit so much! The red sweater is adorable, and I love those shoes and striped socks. I had a similar pair of boots that I LOVED... and they got totally ruined only a few weeks after I'd bought them. I was so sad.
