Pal's Diner

Tonight, Eric and I paid a visit to the most amazing diner I've ever been to! Seriously, I was absolutely in love and gushing over every little thing. It's called Pal's Diner, and it's right in Grand Rapids. This little place was built in 1954 in New Jersey! It was moved in one piece in 1993 to Grand Rapids. According to the owners, if you're lucky enough to snag the seat across from the soda fountain, you're in the favorite seat of the legendary Les Paul who ate here quite often when it was in NJ! It's literally like you step back into time when you go inside. Everything is pink, it has panoramic windows, a mirrored ceiling and the neon exterior clock is original and still keeping time! I love this place so much!

I always knew Pal's was in Grand Rapids but honestly hadn't heard of how awesome it was. The food was really good diner food (I'm a sucker for chicken fingers and burgers, ha!) and their cherry milkshake was delicious. Eric and I split one... I'm trying to be good! But yeah, I was in love and never wanted to leave. I definitely want to come back in summer and take more pictures. Maybe I can find a cute pink dress! I felt like this dress from Tailor and Stylist felt really 50s and fit in perfectly with the setting!

Excuse my wrinkles, we darted here immediately after I got out of the office. It's light enough to take photos after work now, but it still gets dark pretty quick. I'll just be so happy when the sun sets around 9 and I can take my sweet time with photos. That'll be the day! Well, tomorrow is March! The month of spring! The month of average temperatures of 44! Wee! I'm overjoyed. I just need to really kick butt this month so I feel confident rocking some bare legs in April. Work it!

But yeah if you're ever in the Grand Rapids area, this is a place I'd seriously recommend to check out. Especially if you love corny, historical, cutesy crap like I do. And even though everything is pink, you can still drag a guy because they have burgers and root beer. Eric was pleased! Be sure to check out my Rosie's Diner post too! It's not a place you can eat at (it's been closed for a while now) but it's still pretty amazing to see if you're driving through the area! Have a good weekend! xo

Yay! February is nearly done! Not that this wasn't a good month, but I'm just more than ready for spring. It was freezing and the snow didn't let up whatsoever, but oh well. It's winter. Thank goodness it was a short month though. As for goals, I accomplished a couple off my resolutions list. I paid off all of my miscellaneous debt (yay!) and stuck to WW. Although I didn't lose any significant weight this month, I maintained what I lost in January and that's never a bad thing. We also made major progress on our living room decor. This month was fun with our quick weekend in NYC for fashion week, lots of cozy nights staying in and watching movies, celebrating a romantic Valentine's Day out and I think we finally finished potty-training Winny! That's a serious joy. Ha!

  • I've been loving hot soy chai tea lattes this month. Eric likes them iced.
  • We flew to NYC for fashion week!
  • And we had a blast running around the city, even during Nemo.
  • We're making progress on our apartment - baby steps!
  • We paid a little visit to a park and watched the ducks for a while. Felt almost like spring.
  • We did a few DIY projects this month! I repainted this little end-table a mint color, and we built our own chalkboard frame for above the fireplace.
  • Winny has been taking lots of car rides with us lately and is so good. I just love her. She's such a sweet puppy.
  • My weekdays are spent full-time at the office; new accessories make me a happy gal.
  • And I've been bundled up in this new cozy cardigan all month. Seriously. I wear it at least 2-3x a week. :)

I'm really excited for March. It contains a new season - whether it arrives on time or not, I'm happy that we're so close. In March, my goals are to do some major spring cleaning and organizing, re-open my closet shop, get back on track with WW and lose another 5 pounds, continue training for my race, finish a few more apartment/DIY projects and pay down one of my credit cards to half. Phew, I'm getting there! xo

Riverside Park

I'm really hoping this is the last stretch of winter. At this point, I'm just so over it and ready for spring. I'm unmotivated to do the simplest tasks like clean out my car, take Winny for walks, or just leave my apartment in general! Plus, I'm totally out of winter ideas for outfits. No matter how much time I spend on Pinterest, scouring magazines or standing in front of my closet flinging clothes out, I cannot seem to be happy with any outfit I choose. Most of the time I have to force myself to leave the apartment, whether I like what I'm wearing or not! Otherwise I'd stand in front of the mirror for half my day undecided. Ha! Good thing this dress was adorable enough, I didn't have to style it up much!

On Sunday, Eric and I took a little trip over to Riverside Park. As soon as we pulled up, all of these ducks approached the car and I couldn't even get out the door! It was crazy. They must have been hungry. I was bummed I didn't save a little bit of my bagel to throw for them! Other than that, the weekend was mostly spent relaxing, working on a few apartment DIYs (I'll share soon!) and going to a friend's going away party. I caught some of the Oscars, but I was so tired... there was no way I was going to make it to the end!

Oh! I forgot to talk about our new roommate... ugh. Eric and I came home on Monday to a huge stain on the couch, three bags of veggie chips ripped open and poop everywhere. We were like... what the heck? A little mouse could not do this. So Eric started peeking under the couch and spotted something. So we tried to get it out with a tennis racquet and it was a squirrel. Honestly, it sounds like it'd be easy to chase a squirrel out of the apartment but this has been a two-day long process so far and he is still residing with us. It jumped out and bounced around the living room and then hid itself in the TV cabinet. We came home today and heard it in the walls, so we think we have it trapped in the basement. Our landlord set up three (humane) traps and we're hoping he gets caught tonight so we can let it loose somewhere far away tomorrow. What a nightmare though! They are not as cute and friendly as they look. They are dirty and mean! Eric and I have had to hide out in our bedroom with Winny with the door shut so he doesn't attack us! Uahhhh!

Other than our new roommate, not much else is new. I'm just sticking to WW as best as I can (it's tough!) and I'll be doing an update on that soon. I lost 6 pounds and have kept that off since NYC, but I haven't lost anything since. I guess maintaining isn't the worst thing in the world, but I am excited to get back on track. At least I'm back to the same weight I have been for the past two years, but I'm definitely not to where I was when I started this blog. That's for sure - ha! But it's the goal and I just need to continue running, training for my race in spring, eating healthy and following WW. I'll get there! It's a work-in-progress.

Lincoln Center

On our last day in NYC, we headed to Lincoln Center so I could see the Lela Rose show! I was thrilled to be invited to attend. It was my first time inside to see a show! We had to quickly get there and back to the hotel because our flight was leaving at 2pm, but I'm really glad I made it out. Eric and I snapped a few quick photos outside, grabbed some breakfast at Starbucks and called it a successful trip to NYC! I went pretty comfortable this whole weekend. At least the sunshine was outside this day and I could wear heels. I decided to try something new with these striped pants from StyleMint. I was so inspired  by how Mary-Kate and Ashley styled them up, so I dressed them up a bit with a dark lip, studded heels and a blazer!

As Eric was snapping my picture, two other guys came up to take some shots and I didn't know what to do! Haha! But one of them was super nice and offered to take my picture with Eric, so we actually got one of the both of us! It was awesome traveling with him. I would have been lost that weekend without him helping with photos, handling our luggage through the subway and navigating everything. Plus he makes every situation 1000x more fun and was a hit with everyone we met. It's so nice having a more social boyfriend because sometimes I'm honestly not that social and he forces me to get out of my box. I love that about him.

Also! StyleMint is offering a 2 for 1 discount for Selective Potential readers! Click here to redeem and use code "B1G1SM". Note: the 2 for 1 discount is only open to new members.

Samantha Pleet Showroom Opening Party

I was so excited to be invited to attend the Samantha Pleet Showroom Opening Party! I absolutely loved her brand new space, filled with her 2013 A/W collection, photos of the line, inspiration, fabric swatches, vintage furniture and of course, amazing treats. Eric and I sipped on a lemonade gin and got to chat with Samantha herself, her husband and partner, Patrick, and her parents! It was amazing to be there and see the space in person, plus get an early peek at her 2013 A/W collection. I especially loved all of the shoes and boots she designed in collaboration with Wolverine 1000 Mile, especially since they are my neighbors in Rockford, Michigan. So fun! Thanks Samantha for the opportunity to attend!
