Peek at our apartment

We haven't finished buying all of the furniture and everything we want yet, but our apartment has come a long way in the past month! It's difficult to be a renter, because you're really limited on what you can decorate. We can't paint or fix up anything, so I'm just trying to invest in pieces we can take with us when we move out someday. My next big ticket items are a new couch, coffee table and end-tables. After that, I think I'll be pretty content with furniture. I've been trying to mix a lot of patterns in fabric to add interest in the apartment. I've also been working at adding more of our lives into our surroundings - like prints from our city and our photographs of Michigan. It's certainly a process, but I'm finally feeling a bit more at home here! Enjoy a peek at our place!

Winny finally just learned how to go down the stairs! She stays up against the wall the entire way down and it's so adorable. She's such a good pup.

Skincare routine

I've been getting skincare routine requests lately, so I thought I'd give you an updated look since my last post. I've pretty much stuck to the same routine. I'm a huge Clinique gal. To be honest, I've never had major issues with my skin. I mean, I get the occasional blemish, but I'm really lucky to have an overall clear complexion. My biggest problem is dry skin, especially with winters in Michigan. I swear all of the moisture is just sucked out as soon as December hits! But usually, I stick with a pretty basic and easy routine.

Clinique New Clarifying Lotion 2: This is my all-time favorite product. If I use this twice a day - once in the morning and once at night, my skin tone is much more even. It really does help prevent breakouts. Just use with a cotton ball and swipe over face and neck. This product is good for dry combination. There are others you can get for your specific skin type.

Clinique Liquid Facial Soap (Mild): I always use this at night before bed. This specific product is good for all skin types.

Clinique Acne Solutions Spot Healing Gel: I love this for when I do have a spot that I need to heal quickly. Usually if I put it on, I'll wake up the next morning to something more manageable I can cover with makeup.

Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover: I absolutely love using this product for when I don't feel like washing my face before bed - ha! It quickly takes off makeup and I've never broken out from using it.

Hope that helps! I'll be posting on my makeup routine soon too!

Work holiday party

Last weekend, I had my work holiday party! It's annually held at the country club and we always have the best food. Everything was so good this year too. Twice baked potatoes, stuffed chicken, veggies, salad, rice, pasta with pesto sauce... and don't even get me started on the desserts! The ice cream pie was just insane. I love spending time outside of work with colleagues. I seriously adore everyone I work with... and it's just wonderful to see everyone laughing and enjoying themselves. I always love getting to see everyone's spouse too, and the white elephant game is so much fun. We usually all die laughing. This year, it was over a cardboard cut-out of one of the partners at work. So funny. Eric ended up with a cowboy style hat that he was super excited about!

I had a vision of my holiday outfit months before the event. Gold dress, red heels, black tights, with red lips and a top knot. Well, I accomplished about 75% of that! I ordered the most darling red t-strap heels, but they were sent in the wrong color, so I had to last minute pull out my red flats. And I just had my hair done and straightened, and it was too smooth to go up into a knot! I know, woe is me, right? It just wouldn't stay up! But I ended up loving the dress I picked. It was really comfortable and yet dressy. The sweetheart neckline under the gold lace was my favorite part.

Eric recently got this bow-tie and he pulled it off so well! I'm loving his style lately. He has a bunch of staples he sticks with - like rolling up his pants, wearing bright colored knit socks that always show (love that!) and lots of dark jeans and cardigans lately. Super cute. I always get so excited when he loves shopping as much as I do... and getting dressed as much as I do. He's like my gay best friend and boyfriend all in one. Did I tell you guys that we both bawled at the finale of Glee's last season? Yep. And did I tell you guys that our gay waiter this past weekend leaned over to me and whispered that Eric was really cute? Haha, I loved that.

December wishlist

Here we are... onto December already! I've been scouring my brain of what to get my friends and family and feeling so uninspired. But when it comes to myself, oh gosh... the list could keep going. I've been really good though in not shopping for myself this month much! Although, my wish list is always growing. I've been wanting to collect some new dishes to go with my existing white ones and these bowls from ModCloth are adorable. Floral jeans, this heart top and Ray Ban Wayfarers for those bright snowy days is my ideal outfit right now. Add a cute bib necklace, branch bracelet and I'd be all set! I'm also trying to come up with the perfect NYE outfit and I think this glitter dress is it. I love how ASOS styled it with a leather motorcycle jacket and black boots. Also, I'm the ultimate list maker, so this listography book would be perfect. What are you guys hoping you get for Christmas?

Middle of the fields

I think I'm going to have to start accepting the fact that December no longer has snow in Michigan. Seriously! For the past two years, it's looked like autumn all the way through Christmas. We've had a few flurries, but nothing has stuck. It's been such a bummer! I don't even feel like Christmas is a few weeks away. I haven't been shopping for anyone yet. Oh well, looks like next weekend is going to be a flurry of holiday shopping! That's sometimes fun though. I like spending a whole day just knocking out a bunch of gifts!

This past weekend, Eric and I went to my work holiday party and then headed out to Holland so he could play a show with Wallace Collective. It was a super fun night. I loved getting all dressed up and spending the night with colleagues and friends. On Saturday night, Eric and I headed to The Winchester and just sat at the bar ordering the craziest drinks and eating polenta fries. I had so much fun. Eric's favorite concoction he was tried was a White Threesome (Baileys, Kahlua, Southern Comfort and milk) and my personal favorite was the Midori Cooler (Malibu Rum, Midori, 7-Up, cream, orange juice and pineapple juice). Yum!

I love when I find an outfit on a fellow blogger that I love and can totally recreate with pieces already in my closet. After reading Elsie and Emma's sister style post, I couldn't wait to try Elsie's outfit! I love mixing patterns; stripes and plaid are two of my favorites. I actually seem to remix this top with a lot of patterns. I've been fading out my autumn wardrobe and putting it away and bringing out more winter pieces. This winter, I'm looking to try more pastels (usually I shy away from those for some reason) and lots of grays and blues. We just need some snow!

So these pictures turned out a lot more clear than my last set! We switched to my 50mm lens, so I'm going to try and take my other lens to the shop to see if they can clean it up and put a filter on it. I'm not sure if that's the problem, but we'll see. One investment I really need to make is in getting more lenses; they make such a difference! So I'm excited to try and experiment more with photography this winter. I'd love to do a class or workshop too, so if anyone knows of anything in the Grand Rapids area, let me know!

ModCloth Holiday Gift Guide

This post is sponsored by ModCloth. I almost feel like I could get all of my gifts from ModCloth this year! I actually have picked up quite a few things for friends so far (and myself! ;)). They just make it so easy because everything is so cute! I thought about some of my favorite people and put together a few specific guides based on them. Enjoy!
