We're onto the first weekend of December! We eased into it with pretty low-key plans. Eric had shows all weekend in southwest Michigan, so I was on my own for the most part. Sometimes I love making plans with friends when he's off playing shows, but sometimes I also just love having the weekend to myself. On Friday night, I cooked myself a super yummy dinner of bowtie pasta with sausage and escarole, watched Christmas movies all night, and was in bed by 11pm. Kind of heavenly!
A couple of weeks ago, I talked a bit on how to be present during the holiday season, but I didn’t really talk about the benefits of being present. Being present means living in the moment, on purpose, and paying attention to what’s going on in your surroundings. Whether that means you’re looking out the window in the car of a road trip, or having a conversation with a friend, or just listening to the waves at the beach, you’re actively being in the moment. You’re being present. And with that, comes so many benefits.Read More
This past weekend, we headed north for our annual tradition of cutting down our Christmas tree! It’s always one of my favorite days of the entire year. Christmas brings so many fun traditions, and as I’m getting older, I’m realizing that I really love tradition, routine, and the simple things in life. I think I’ve always known that, but it definitely becomes more clear every single year. Especially now that I’m 30. You just learn to let go of the dumb little things, and focus on the important things. Like choppin’ down an ol’ tree with your family! ;)

We are currently loving this long weekend and start to the holidays. Our Thanksgiving was great. We've been rotating between our families, since it's the hardest holiday for us. Nobody wants to celebrate Thanksgiving the next day, or have two giant meals, and since our families live an hour apart, we just have to rotate. Seems only fair, right? So this year, we were at my mom's house, which was great because she's my favorite cook in the entire world. Yesterday we cut down our Christmas tree and now I've been trying to play a little catch up around the house and on the blog... which leads me to our third installment of 'a few of my favorite things'. I haven't done one since last May, so here we go! I hope you're having a great weekend! Psst... our Christmas cards are from Shutterfly!
Are you guys ready for winter?! With our first snowfall and colder temperatures this past weekend, it's starting to feel very real, even though winter doesn't technically begin for another month yet. But, like I said, I love a white Christmas... and bundling up in layers definitely has its benefits!
Even though all of our snow has already melted, I need to start seriously thinking about a few items on my winter wish list. That includes a new winter coat, some durable comfy boots, sunglasses, a wintry scarf, and a new crossbody bag. Plus, a cute necklace to pair with a fancy dress for upcoming holiday parties.
I recently learned about Century21, and I fell in love. They have so many options, and so many affordable designer options. Basically everything I found and liked was more than 50% off. I’m slightly obsessed with them right now, that’s for sure. I've linked to a few of my favorite options below! Have an amazing weekend... and a very happy Thanksgiving!

The snow is here! Although I'm not always thrilled with snow before Thanksgiving, I'm pretty excited about it. After a very hot summer and the most amazing autumn weather we could have asked for, I'm now hoping we're blessed with a white Christmas. Nothing makes you feel more in the spirit for the holidays than a beautiful white blanket of snow on the ground. The holidays are SO close! I'm thrilled we're going into a short week, with Thanksgiving and a long weekend up ahead. And as soon as Thanksgiving is over, Christmas begins... decorating, holiday parties, watching cheesy Christmas movies. I'm thrilled for it all.
This past weekend was a good and relaxing one! Friday night, Eric and I headed into East Lansing to see Wicked! It was excellent. We absolutely loved it. Saturday was especially lazy. We made breakfast together, and I ended up watching While You Were Sleeping and falling asleep for a long nap. That night, we met up for a friend's birthday and went bowling and headed to karaoke afterwards. Sunday, we tried a new breakfast place called The Lazy Susan, which was delicious, and grabbed groceries for the week. We came home, watched Dan In Real Life, and Eric headed off to hockey as I washed the bedding and cooked beef stroganoff. I also love winter, because I'm able to bring out all of my seasonal winter favorite dishes. Individual chicken potpies, homemade chili, slow-cooker meals... yum!
I need to scour my wish list to see if anything is going on sale this weekend. I really have been wanting a pair of Hunter boots for winter, plus I need a new winter coat. I have a bunch of little things I've been holding off on purchasing too, hoping I can ask for them for Christmas. A new Fitbit band, a fancy water bottle, a new 2017 wall calendar... I'll do a little collection for the blog soon and maybe it'll spark a few good gift ideas for you guys too! Have a great week and happy preparations for Thanksgiving!
