Can you imagine your town without the unique, local shops it has? The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve come to appreciate shopping local and supporting small business. My mom is a small gift shop owner, and I’ve seen how much time, effort and energy that goes into curating a retail space. It makes shopping special, unique, and meaningful to your city. In Grand Rapids, we have so many amazing places to shop and eat. I’m excited to be partnering with the Michigan Retailers Association to promote the upcoming I BuyNearby Weekend, which is the first weekend in October. By shopping at your favorite local retailers, and sharing an image using the #ibuynearby hashtag, you could enter for a chance to win a $500 Discover gift card!Read More
Hi friends! I'm alive! I can't believe it's almost been a month since I posted here last. Time is seriously flying. I wish I knew of a way to slow it down, but that's just the way it goes sometimes, especially in the summer. On one hand, it's been nice to sort of take a break, but on the other hand, I'm not really sure what I've done with my time other than be "busy", so it hasn't felt like a break. At all. We've had a lot of things happening - weddings, shows, days off, trips, but I haven't really been productive. I think right now I'm just trying to keep my head above water, and pump the brakes as much as I can, but it's SO hard. I'm going to try and slow down a bit though, and be more intentional, especially with posting here! Summer is one of my favorite times to blog, we have daylight until 9:30pm, and so many fun plans to blog about. I think I just need to let go of the idea of "perfection" for each post, and instead just carry around our camera more and snap photos without that pressure. Perfect or not. So that's what we have here today... a totally imperfect post with all iPhone snaps, but hey, I'm here!
Phew, the heat wave finally broke! We're back down to our normal June temperatures of 70s and 80s. I'll take it! As much as I love those hot 90º days, I just wasn't totally ready for summer yet this year. I think it just snuck up on us a little too quickly! Plus, time has just been a whirlwind. We've been going nonstop lately, and I feel like it's just going to continue that way for the next few weeks. Thankfully tonight, I was able to cook a meal at home, catch up on some laundry, knock out a few chores, and publish a blog post!

Let's jump back a couple of weeks, shall we? It's been a whirlwind start to summer ever since Memorial Day weekend, that's for sure! If you didn't catch it on Instagram, Eric and I headed out to Ann Arbor over the long weekend to stay at Graduate Ann Arbor. The amazing folks there invited us to experience the hotel, grab a bite to eat at the Allen Rumsey Supper Club, and enjoy checking out the quaint downtown of Ann Arbor. We've been to Ann Arbor a couple of times before, but I've never stayed a full weekend, so it was great to have a bit more time to explore, walk around, check out some of the bars and restaurants, and do a little bit of shopping!

It's finally here... my everyday curls hair tutorial! I know I've been talking about doing this for a while, so I'm glad I finally took the time to put it together. In this post, you'll find all of the products I use on my hair, a quick 10-step recap of how I curl my hair, and a full five-minute video tutorial. You can shop all of the products in the image below by clicking the little + signs. I've also answered a few FAQs at the end of the post, but if you have any other questions, just leave a comment on this post and I'll be sure to respond! Hope you enjoy!Read More
We're already a full week into June… holy moly! I’m excited for this month, because summer is officially here. It’s not technically summer yet, but it sure does feel like it. We’re supposed to hit the 90s this weekend! This month is chocked full of plans that kick off summer festivities — lots of social gatherings (bachelorette parties, shows, etc.) and at the end of the month I have a full week off for the fourth of July. I haven’t had a week off since last June, so I’m really excited for that. While I’m hoping time slows down a little (I’m going to try to apply the brakes as much as I can), I still have a few goals I want to accomplish!Read More
