Looking back on 2013

Here is my giant recap of 2013! I always love looking back and reflecting on the year's memories. So many great things happened this year too. I was lucky enough to travel a lot and see so many amazing places. I loved spending so much time with Eric. I had so many great blogging opportunities. Tons of wonderful memories with friends and family. We moved into a new place that feels like home. And it was so much fun. Also, this post is extremely photo heavy! Proceed with caution. ;)

Last January, Eric and I went to see a favorite local country band play! And of course, we danced.

Circle Maybe decided to call it quits and play our very last show. You can listen to our two EP's at our Bandcamp, if you're interested!

In February, Eric and I flew out to NYC for fashion week! We went to a few presentations, and met Samantha Pleet for the first time. We also had fun at the Lulu's party!

We also grabbed lunch with a couple of my favorites - Mara and Steffy! It was a great (but very cold) trip to the city. And we survived Nemo!

Eric and I attended the annual Kendall College of Art and Design Bodies of Art fashion show. Everything was made of paper! Pretty unique to see.

We pretty much finished our gallery wall. I love this wall and it makes me so happy whenever I see it.

Eric, Winny and I had Easter dinner at his parent's house.

In April, I officially kicked my nail biting habit. I've had a couple setbacks since then, but I still consider myself a non-biter. As of today, I haven't chewed in months!

I was given the amazing opportunity to travel to Boston for Blog Better Boston thanks to Lulu's! I lead a few sessions on media kit creation. I loved my time in Boston, especially because of the people I spent time with. (everyone above. ^)

I also had a free day to see downtown Boston. It was beautiful, especially in spring! I explored Boston Common and the Public Garden.

Eric played a country show at Back Forty Saloon. We wore our matching denim jackets. ;)

In May, Eric played another show with his band, Steve Rivers Band. I always have a blast at these shows. This group picture is one of my favorites.

My friend, Eleanor, came to visit us from New Zealand for 3 weeks! We took her to a super fun jungle-themed dance party.

We also had to stop to the lighthouse in Grand Haven, of course.

We celebrated Mother's Day at our apartment, and cooked burgers for Eric's family. This is us with his niece, Lexi!

In June, Eric played on T.V. with his band! He wore sunglasses. I think we had just watched "That Thing You Do." ;)

Winny and I watched many of Eric's kickball games.

We drove out to Cleveland, Ohio to see one of our favorite bands, Fleetwood Mac, and to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

We went to a Detroit Tiger's baseball game. It was so so so hot that day. We were melting.

We found out we were being evicted from our apartment. It was a super rough month finding a new place and, of course, the stress of moving.

But the first night we spent in our new place, I felt completely at home. And at that point, I knew it was totally meant to be. I couldn't even imagine living in our old place now with how at home I feel in our new apartment. I swear, everything in life happens for a reason.

We had an amazing, picturesque fourth of July. We had a picnic, saw the most gorgeous sunset and watched fireworks with friends on the beach.

Steve Rivers band played quite a bit in July! The first picture is when they won the local Texaco Country Showdown competition. The picture below is from when they played with Greg Allman.

Eric and I headed to Muskegon to go to Bike Time and a Boston concert with my dad, step-mom and step-brother. One of those ridiculous nights you'll never forget. ;)

I had the opportunity to host an event at Madewell. I was able to meet new blog friends, see old ones and do a little shopping!

We ended the month with friends at Frederik Meijer Gardens to see Kari Lynch Band. We saw a proposal that night too, and it was so special!

The first weekend of August, I headed to Austin, Texas for the Texas Style Council Conference! I hosted a dinner with Minnetonka, gave a talk on media kit creation, ate a lot of tacos and spent a lot of time with Elizabeth and Julie (two of my favorites). It was a fun (and hot!) weekend.

We traveled out to the thumb of Michigan for a carnival and another win at the Texaco Country Showdown competition. They won for the entire state of Michigan. That was super awesome!

We stayed another day after the competition to explore the thumb's lighthouses. Fort Gratiot was my favorite, but I absolutely loved seeing so many lighthouses in such a short trip.

The next weekend, we headed up to Mackinaw City! I absolutely love that city. We ate fudge, relaxed, played mini-golf and watched a laser light show.

We also took a boat tour to see a few lighthouses out in Lake Michigan. I welled up with tears when I saw White Shoal Lighthouse. It was insanely beautiful, and one of my favorites so far.

Eric and I also did a photo session with Katie of James & Katie Photography at the end of the month!

We celebrated the end of summer with a labor day cookout at a friend's house on the farm!

Eric turned 25. What a baby. ;)

I hosted a really fun event with Wolverine 1000 Mile with so many of my favorite friends, and local bloggers.

We took a trip up to Sleeping Bear Dunes! It's one of my favorite spots on earth. When I asked Eric what his favorite memory of the year was, he said this day. :)

We bought Eric a new car! We shared for over a year, and it was hectic. Life is so much easier now!

In October, Eric and I traveled to Saint Louis for their Saint Louis Fashion Week. I was able to hang out with so many blogger friends, attend some great events, and spend time in Saint Louis. I just love that city.

The next weekend, we drove to Minnesota for the Midwest round of the Texaco Country Showdown competition. Unfortunately we didn't win this one, but it was a really fun weekend and Minnesota was insanely beautiful!

Eric and I had an apple orchards photo session with our good friend, Tifani of Tifani Lyn Photography.

We picked pumpkins at the pumpkin patch!

We hosted a Halloween party and movie night (Hocus Pocus) for friends at our apartment!

We carved our pumpkins at a friend's house.

And we ended the month with our favorite dance party of the year, Bottom 40 Halloween!

In November, I hosted a weekend event with Maurices here in Grand Rapids! Four bloggers from Michigan brought a girlfriend for a girl's weekend. It was so much fun.

We had a fancy dinner at Grove, went to a class at the new downtown market, and visited Robinette's for wine tasting.

I did a month long collaboration with a local boutique, Frances Jaye, to style up some holiday looks! Eric was a guest in this one. ;)

I celebrated three years of being a graphic designer at my job! I started on the same day as this girl - Sharisa. She's been a close friend since day one.

The first weekend after Thanksgiving, we chopped down our Christmas tree!

We had the most insane white Christmas this year. I loved it!

And we celebrated Christmas with our families! 2013 was a great year looking back on it. I always love doing this recap because it makes me look back and remember all of the great memories before the new year begins. It's easy to sit here and think how unproductive this year was, or how I can't wait for the new one to begin… when really this year was pretty special. I'm thrilled to see what 2014 will bring.

Top ten outfits of 2013

Here we go with the 2013 recaps! I'll be sharing my top outfits, a personal life recap, and a survey to get a little feedback to go forward in the new year! We'll start out with sharing some of my favorite outfits from the past year. I definitely felt like spring and autumn were my strongest seasons outfit-wise. But honestly, summer was my most "fun" time to have this blog. Posts like the Cherry Bowl Drive In and all of the lighthouse trips we took? So much fun this year. It's still obvious I love prints (especially floral prints, always). I don't suspect my style will change much in 2014, but I'm excited to see what I can come up with again! I plan on slowing down a bit this winter on the blog (I'll talk more about this in my resolutions post coming up), but I'm hoping to get a few good outfits in this winter before spring hits. Thank you to everyone who has been reading - since the beginning or just a few days! Your support means more than you know!

Winter Featured Blogger

For my winter featured blogger, I chose Kaylee of Kaylee Daily! I got to know Kaylee after she did a guest post on my blog this past summer. I loved working with her on it and she was the sweetest girl ever! I really enjoy her blog. She's so down-to-earth and I love her fun and colorful sense of style. I always look forward to reading her posts about her cute outfits and adventures with her husband and pups! Here are some questions to get to know her better. Be sure to head over and check out her adorable blog!

1. Can you tell us a little bit about your blog, Kaylee Daily?

Kaylee Daily is my creative outlet and hopefully a place of inspiration for others. I have always possessed a deep appreciation for fashion and I believe that creating innovative outfits that portray a person's unique personality is an art form.  In addition to my daily ensembles, I also enjoy documenting my day-to-day life with Bobby, my better half. My blog is a place where I can put all of my joys on display, where I can celebrate life's little moments with loved ones and strangers alike. Kaylee Daily is one hundred percent me--love, laughter, and lots and lots of cute, new clothes.

2. When and why did you start blogging?

I started my blog in March of 2013. Kaylee Daily is practically a newborn in the blogosphere. I've always admired many fashion blogs, such as Selective Potential and Kendi Everyday, from a far but was a little nervous to start my own. With a little encouragement from family and friends and a closet full of clothes ready for their big debut, I finally took a leap of fashion faith and I've never looked back.

3. Explain your style in five words.

Whimsical, romantic, bold, brave, and chic.

4. What do you do for a living?

I am currently working part-time at Head Over Heels, a local shoe boutique in my hometown. Also, I recently started a second part-time job as an assistant to Haley Sheffield, an amazing photographer and dear friend. Both of my jobs make for a very fun work environment and I appreciate everything I am learning. At 25 years old, I am eager to soak up every experience available to me on my quest to find the job of my dreams, whatever it may be.

5. Favorite musicians/bands?

This could result in a very long list but, for your sake, I'll try and condense it. Grouplove is my most recent musical infatuation. Their music is so fun and energetic! With every song I fall more and more in love. A few of my other favorites include: Ellie Goulding, Mumford & Sons, One Republic, Katy Perry, and Lorde.

6. What is a typical weekend-day like for you and your husband, Bobby?

As much as I love going out with friends, my most favorite Saturdays are spent at home on the couch with Bobby. The truth is, nothing makes me melt quite like the words 'Let's stay home and cuddle' or 'New Girl is on. Grab the Nutella!' We are total homebodies and that is completely okay with me. Our three fur babies don't mind it either.

7. What's your favorite part about blogging?

That's easy! Creating fun, new outfits is by far the best part of blogging. I love finding a fresh way to style familiar clothes. Being able to display my creativity in that way is exactly why I do what I do.

8. Who is Beasley, Nina and Dolce? :)

Oh, the babies! These three little stinkers are practically princesses in our home. I hate to admit it but they have Bobby and I wrapped around their twelve tiny paws. Beasley is the smallest of the three but she also has the biggest personality. Don't tell the others but she is definitely my favorite. Dolce, however, is a daddy's girl. I know what you're thinking, 'What about Nina? Who loves her the most?' The answer is: everyone. Nina is the most lovable out of the three. She welcomes everyone into our home with lots of wet kisses and nonstop puppy cuddles.

9. Where is your favorite place to shop?

What an impossible question! There are so many incredible places to shop. I mean, if its out there, I find it. However, there are three places in particular that contribute to my wardrobe the most: Madewell, J. Crew, and Forever 21.

10. Any tips for bloggers just starting out?

Have fun! I have wasted a lot of time worrying about whether or not other people will like what I do. I am learning that my blog should be about what makes me happy. Not everyone will like what you have to say or in my case, what I want to wear, but the truth is that it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Confidence should come from within and whatever you decide to blog about, do it because it brings joy to your life. After all, happiness breeds happiness.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know Kaylee a little bit more. Be sure to head over to her blog and follow along! You can also follow her on Twitter and Instagram.

A wintry day

It's a winter wonderland! It has been nonstop snowing. I love it. This weekend was pretty hectic. Friday night, we had two parties to attend - one for a friend's birthday and another for a friend's Christmas pot luck. It was fun! Saturday, we attempted to head out to Frankenmuth to visit the world's largest Christmas store, but unfortunately we didn't make it. We drove for about an hour (in a crazy blizzard) and one of Eric's coils blew on his car. We couldn't continue to drive it and were panicked! Thank goodness a local repair shop helped and it was under $100 to fix, rather than the $250 bill we were quoted to have it towed back to the city. Ah! I'm super thankful for that mom-and-pop shop that really helped us out.

We took these pictures while we were out doing our traditional Sunday grocery shopping. I've been bundling up like crazy lately, and I honesty don't mind winter half as much if I prepare for it! I received three new pieces from Boden to style up for a look - this sweater, hat and a polka dot shirt I'm wearing under the sweater. I was too cold to take off my coat on this day. I fear we're going to be seeing a lot of my winter coats this season.

I'm also excited to announce that Boden is giving away a $25 gift card to one of my readers! All you have to do is visit their website, and leave a comment on this post with your favorite item. I had a hard time choosing. They have so many cute things! I'll be announcing the giveaway winner in a week or so. I have a couple other exciting giveaways coming up soon before the holiday season too - so stay tuned! Good luck! xo

Minnetonka: Handcrafted for the Holidays

I'm excited to announce a fun collaboration with Minnetonka Moccasin! They just put out a Handcrafted for the Holidays lookbook, featuring so many of my favorite bloggers. We each styled up a pair of our favorite moccasins, and featured a handcrafted holiday tradition. I chose to do my favorite Christmas cookie - Santa's Whiskers! Be sure to head over and check out the lookbook, and find the recipe there. They are so good.

Phew, I've been busy lately! No complaints, but I'm just trying to keep my head above water right now! Work has been busy, but so great lately. I've been doing pretty good about getting holiday gifts purchased before Christmas Eve this year. Although Eric somehow tricked me into getting his big one early - ugh. I'm so easily manipulated with his trickery! But now he has a new stereo in his car, which he desperately needed. His old one would constantly turn the volume up randomly out of nowhere and your ears would be blown for about five minutes. Good thing I have some other tricks up my sleeve for Christmas still!

It's been so snowy here in Michigan! I was driving home today, just thinking about how glad I am that it's winter. I wouldn't want it to be any other season right now. The snow is perfect, even the cold is refreshing. I love bundling up in sweaters, sipping hot beverages, watching the snowflakes fall from the sky. It's just perfect to me right now, and winter can take as long as it'd like this year. I'll perhaps regret saying this in March, but for now… I'm in love.

Be sure to head over to Minnetonka's website to check out the lookbook! One tip if you decide to make the Santa's Whiskers' recipe is that once you're done mixing everything together, it will look very crumbly. You have to dig your hands into the mix and just squish until it starts to feel/look like cookie dough. It will take a little bit, but it should come together pretty easily! Enjoy! Let me know if you make them and end up liking them! And be sure to take at least one bite of the dough. ;)
