Crisp Point Lighthouse

Our last adventure during our trip to Tahquamenon Falls was to Crisp Point Lighthouse! I remember learning about this lighthouse years ago, and read about how it had been abandoned for years, and they finally opened up a road to see it. Now it's beautifully maintained, with a gift shop, restrooms, and there's a seasonal lighthouse keeper up there to keep it open for you! This is another lighthouse where you can let yourself in, climb up the tower yourself, and you can even open the door to the top of the tower and walk out on the balcony. I just love it. It provides such a beautiful view of Lake Superior, and the fall foliage made it even better!

Whitefish Point

During our trip to Tahquamenon Falls, lighthouses were (of course) on the itinerary! In the morning, after breakfast at our hotel, we headed up to Whitefish Point to explore the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and the Whitefish Point Lighthouse! We got our tickets to the museum and for the tower climb, and quickly headed to meet up with the rest of the group. The climb up the tower was pretty easy and it was an amazing view of Lake Superior. We caught some glimpses of Canada up there too! It was a perfect day full of blue skies and blue water. We were so blessed with great weather on this day!

Upper Tahquamenon Falls

Onto our adventure to the Upper Tahquamenon Falls! Since it started raining the day before, we decided to postpone and go back the next day. I'm glad we did, but holy moly, it was busy! We had to wait in line for quite some time to get into the park, find a parking spot, and walk to view the falls. People everywhere! It seemed everyone else had the same idea as us to head to the falls for autumn colors. It was worth it though... so pretty up there! We first checked out the upper brink of the falls, and kept stopping at every turnout in the path, conquering lots of stairs to see every angle of the falls. It smelled so amazing up there. I could just breathe in that fresh cedar scent everyday!

Lower Tahquamenon Falls

We're back from the most magical weekend in the upper peninsula visiting the Tahquamenon Falls area! The fall colors were in full force, the weather was cooler, the rain held off for the most part, and we got to explore both the upper and lower falls, see two different lighthouses, drive down winding back roads, and eat lots of burgers and craft beer (wine for me, of course). I'd relive this weekend over, and over again. This weekend just contained everything that makes my heart so happy... Eric, lighthouses, October, fall foliage. I was such a happy lady all weekend long, and didn't want to return home! But here we are, back to the city, and I'll just have to relive the experience through my photos this next week!

Beaver Island Travel Guide

As promised, here is my full "little" travel guide to Beaver Island! We're definitely not pros of the island, but just thought I'd share where we stayed, what we ate, and what we did on the island. To be honest, this wasn't my favorite Michigan excursion we've been on. There wasn't a whole lot to do on the island... which is great if you're looking to relax and take it easy! Typically we like to have fun things to do and see when we travel (especially around Michigan), so thankfully the lighthouses took up a bit of our time. But if we didn't have the lighthouses to see, I'm not sure what else we would have done other than ride bikes, or visit the little beach, or eat/drink. But! We still enjoyed our weekend, and here are the highlights of our trip!

Beaver Island Head Light

Onto day two of our trip to Beaver Island! The second day, we knew we'd be making a huge trip to the Beaver Island Head Lighthouse on the south end of the island. Since we didn't bring our car on the ferry, we'd be making the trek by bicycle! It was a 30-mile round trip ride. Oof! But we made it, and honestly, it was one of my favorite experiences of the entire trip. Challenging, but so fun. One of my very favorite things about seeing all of the lighthouses in Michigan is the adventure to get to them. We've walked miles, have traveled by boat, biked several miles, and will someday have to travel by airplane. It's such a fun and exciting adventure every single time.
