Early autumn at Harlow Lake

Harlow Lake is usually one of the first places I head when I start getting impatient for autumn color, so of course I had to sneak out there even though it's still quite early. 😂 There were a few tiny hints of red and orange starting to show, but mostly everything is still holding onto summer, which is probably fair considering we're only halfway through September! Still, the temperatures have been cooperating, the air has that first little hint of fall to it, and it felt so good to be back out taking outfit photos again. I busted out this teddy coat for the occasion, which may have been slightly ambitious, but I'm fully embracing the unofficial start of autumn over here.

I've also been feeling excited about personal style again lately, which seems to happen every year as soon as the temperatures drop. Summer is wonderful, but by September I'm READY for layers, denim, cozy socks, jackets and shoes that aren't sandals. I had been eyeing these brown Adidas for a while and finally went for them, and I love them paired with slightly shorter denim so a little cozy sock can peek out. I've been doing a small closet purge too, getting rid of pieces I don't reach for anymore and trying to be more intentional about bringing in just a few new things I really love. My style these days is definitely more casual and U.P.-coded, but I'm having fun figuring out that balance between practical, comfortable and still feeling like me. Turns out I can adventure in the woods AND care about my outfit. 😂

Otherwise, I'm happily settling into all of my favorite early-fall rituals. The pumpkin candles are burning, a few pumpkins have made their way around the apartment, I've officially had my first sip of Witches Brew of the season, and watched my first autumn movie – The Lake House, which I have decided absolutely counts based on vibes alone even though it’s not full-on fall. 😉 There are still plenty of green trees outside and I'm definitely not wishing the season away, but I love this little in-between stretch when you can feel everything starting to shift. Soon enough the U.P. will be completely on fire with color, there will be more fall adventures and outfits to photograph, and I'll probably be complaining that it all went by too quickly (as always). So for now, I'm just enjoying the beginning. 🍂
