Last Friday night

Happy Monday! Did you all have a good weekend? We really did... but on the other hand, it was just a strange weekend. I mean, we live in Michigan. February should mean blizzards, and below 0º temperatures, and huddling up indoors with Netflix and your coziest blanket. But not this February weekend... we were out and about enjoying the sunshine and 60º temps, grabbing iced coffee, riding with the windows down, heading to the beach to walk the pier with Winny, and only wearing a light jacket instead of our usual fur-hooded parkas! I mean, don't get me wrong, I love this weather, it just feels wrong to love it right now, if that makes any sense at all.

February uniform

Did you guys have a good Valentine's Day? We were supposed to cook a meal at home, but I got out of work a little bit late, and Eric was playing a show later, so we decided to head out to dinner. Nothing fancy! We grabbed some sandwiches and salads. I'm trying so hard to stay on my healthy kick, even though I'm not seeing the results I was hoping for so far. It's a slow process, and it only gets slower the older I get, that's for sure. But! The key is not giving up, so today is always my start over day and that's exactly what I'm doing. Begin again, and again, if you have to!

February is quickly becoming my new favorite month... just kidding! I really do love the sunshine we've been getting lately though. It's so pretty and mood-lifting! Plus, it's still light out by the time I get out of work... which is life changing for the blog. So hello! How was your weekend? Ours was pretty good! We didn't do a lot, but it was productive. I got two sets of photos taken, ate super healthy, cooked most of our meals, ran twice for 5K training, completed all of my weekend chores, and settled into the sofa for the Grammys on Sunday night. Lovely, simple weekend.

Coffee run

We're halfway through February... so close to spring, and yet so far away it feels like! I really do love winter, but I definitely start to crave spring this time of year. The groundhog has officially called six more weeks of winter, and I'm loading up on all the warm coffee, cozy blankets on the sofa, and chunky cardigans. I'm trying to just enjoy this season of life right now though. Spring will be here before we know it, and now is the time to enjoy these quiet, cold nights, get to the gym as much as possible, and cook all of the hearty (and healthy) meals.

Ai Weiwei at Meijer Gardens: Natural State

Last weekend, Eric and I had the chance to check out the Ai Weiwei exhibit at Frederik Meijer Gardens. Natural State is his first show in the upper Midwest, as well as the first of its kind for him at a botanical garden or sculpture park, so we were really excited to check this exhibit out in our own city. If you're nearby anytime between now and August 20th, I'd definitely recommend it. Ai Weiwei is one of the most influential artists and activists of our time, and this body of work is so beautifully unique. We loved having the opportunity to see it!

Gray skies

So since our teaser of spring last Saturday, we've been stuck with gray, foggy, depressing weather ever since. I'm not the biggest fan, to say the least. But, as I always do this time of year, I'm trying to stay positive and use this time to get ahead with my goals. Plus, I always sort of miss this time of year when it goes away, because I really do like the slowness of winter, the dark nights where you can cuddle up on the sofa and watch all of your favorite TV shows, and cook a big pot of soul-warming chili. I always just struggle with being in the moment. So I just need to remind myself... time goes so quickly, enjoy the month you're in, and take advantage of the good things it has to offer!
