Boardman River

There is nothing I love more than a weekend getaway… especially in spring/summer! We recently headed up north to Traverse City, which is one of my favorite places to visit in Michigan. Eric had a couple of gigs up there, so we used that as an excuse to book a hotel, relax at the pool, head out for a yummy dinner at a local brewery, and check out a little bit of Cherry Festival. I’m really into summer style right now – effortless, stylish, and comfortable. I’m loving these adorable Hush Puppies Chardon Fisherman from Zappos. They fit into my style and adventures perfectly. I love the tan color, the velcro straps make them super easy to put on, and they are so comfortable for lots of walking. Since we never sit still when we travel, these were perfect to bring along on our weekend trip!

On this day in Traverse City, we woke up to beautiful, sunny weather. Our hotel was right downtown, so we decided to walk around a little bit, taking in the sights. We headed down to this boardwalk along the Boardman River to take a stroll. Lots of boaters and kayakers were out on the river, and families walking or biking along the boardwalk. It was super cute! After walking around town a little bit (thankful for comfortable sandals!), we grabbed brunch at Flap Jack Shack. Typically I love to stay central to the downtown area when in Traverse City, but because it was so busy from Cherry Festival, we decided to head out of downtown a little bit to beat the traffic!

When packing for spring/summer trips, I always think of comfort first, especially since we’re always out adventuring, walking, riding bikes, kayaking, boating, you name it. In Michigan, you tend to stay outdoors a lot in the summer (since we’re stuck indoors all winter!) so a stylish, comfortable pair of sandals are a must. These Fisherman sandals are just that, plus they have a memory foam footbed that contours to your foot over time providing personalized wear. So you mean, these are just going to get more and more comfortable? Perfect! I definitely plan on packing these on our upcoming trips. We still have Big Sable Lighthouse and another Traverse City trip on the docket this summer!

Other packing essentials… layers. Especially in Michigan! One day it can be 90º, the next it can be 60º. You just never know. I always pack a chunky cardigan, just in case. I also always pack jeans (I pretty much wear them year-round), along with jean shorts or an easy-to-throw on dress. Bathing suit (of course). Cute accessories that are easy to pack – a boater’s hat, sunnies, a statement earring, or a lightweight scarf. A cute top (button-up or tee) to throw on with a pair of jeans or shorts/skirt. And of course, a comfortable pair of shoes, almost always sandals in the summer. Be sure to check out Hush Puppies on Zappos for other comfortable and stylish options too!

What adventures are you taking this summer? I’d love to hear! Do you like doing outdoorsy things, or would you prefer a nice hotel room and a fancy dinner out? I honestly love doing both, but on most of our trips, we’re usually doing something outside. Taking a hike, riding a kayak out to a lighthouse, finding a waterfall, hitting up a local brewery or winery, eating a burger at an old tavern, those are the things we love to do! So let me know in the comments… what do you love to do for adventures and getaways, and what is a packing essential for you?
