510 Bridge

Elliot and I headed out to the 510 Bridge on a weeknight last week to check on the fall color, and I couldn’t believe how much had already changed inland! The trees were absolutely at peak—full of yellows, oranges and reds—even though the color along the lakeshore in Marquette is still taking its time (but still, it’s popping EARLY). This bridge/overlook has always been one of my favorite places to visit in autumn, especially for an early glimpse of color. Inland areas tend to change more quickly, and the view over the river and trees is always incredible this time of year!

We started at the little park and parking area near the top, then walked across the newer bridge to take in the overlook of the old 510 Bridge below. The color was amazing in every direction, and it was one of those views that makes you stop and realize how lucky we are to live here. After exploring up top, we drove down near the old bridge and took a walk along the road. Somehow, we were the only people there! I don’t think tourists expected the color to arrive quite this early, so these autumn weeknights have been wonderfully peaceful for the locals. Not mad about it. 😂

The evening started out completely overcast, but we stayed long enough to witness the most magical golden hour. Almost out of nowhere, the sky popped off, casting the prettiest warm light across the bridge and trees. It felt like the entire landscape lit up for just a few minutes. We took approximately one million photographs (in our fashion-blogging era, apparently) and I love how they captured both the incredible color and that fleeting autumn light. These are exactly the kinds of evenings I wish I could bottle up and save.

For my outfit, I paired my Levi’s Ribcage jeans with an older Target sweater and a new oversized black denim shacket I found through TikTok Shop. I ordered an XL because I wanted an oversized fit, and I love how easily it layers over sweaters without feeling bulky or restrictive. I also finally brought out my Doc Martens for the first time since last year! There’s something so satisfying about rediscovering fall wardrobe favorites and mixing them with one or two newer pieces. This outfit felt comfy, a little rugged and perfect for wandering around an old bridge on a crisp autumn evening.

We stopped at Teriyaki Bowl on the way home, then settled in for a cozy night of shows. (Ted Lasso, anyone?) It’s getting dark so much earlier, but honestly, I love it right now—the darker evenings make staying in feel especially cozy after spending time outside. We’re trying to squeeze every possible drop out of peak color because it always disappears far too quickly in the Upper Peninsula. There are more photographs coming from Negaunee and the old mining trails, plus an upcoming trip to Ironwood. With autumn arriving so early this year, I’m curious to see how the rest of October unfolds, but we’ll be chasing whatever color remains! 🍂
