Autumn on Presque Isle

Autumn is arriving early in the Upper Peninsula this year, and I think we’re all slightly panicking about fitting in every fall adventure before the color disappears… even though it’s not even technically October yet! The dry conditions have everything changing a little earlier than usual, and the color is already starting to pop around Marquette. It’s also been surprisingly warm, which made for the loveliest evening exploring the cliffs at Presque Isle. The light, the lake and the first hints of autumn color were all so beautiful—I’m absolutely in love with how these photos turned out.

This was an especially sweet day because Elliot and I were celebrating one year together! We started with a delicious brunch at Delft, wandered around downtown for a bit and eventually made our way out to Presque Isle for photos. It’s always really special to have photographs of the two of us together, especially since we’re usually the ones behind the camera. This time we were setting up the tripod, getting into place and laughing our way through it. These feel like such a lovely snapshot of us and this season of life together. 🤎

Before this, we stopped at Grandma O’s Pumpkin Patch, which is hilariously (and charmingly) just a suburban house with a little pumpkin display and an honor system for paying. We picked out a couple of larger pumpkins to carve and several tiny ones for the apartment. I may have gone slightly overboard because I somehow now have a total of 16 pumpkins in my studio apartment. 😂 Between those, my pumpkin candles and all of the cozy movies we’ve been watching, the apartment is officially at maximum autumn capacity.

I’ve also added a few new pieces to my fall wardrobe lately, including these clogs from Target. They’ve honestly been such a convenient slip-on shoe for dry autumn days, and I love wearing them with cozy socks. Otherwise, I’m just trying to soak up this fleeting season as much as possible—taking photos, planning little adventures and getting excited for an upcoming trip to Ironwood. I’m admittedly nervous that the color will be past peak by then, but I’m hoping it holds on for us! Autumn always moves far too quickly in the U.P., so for now, I’m embracing every colorful tree, warm evening and pumpkin-covered corner I can.
