Eagle Harbor Lighthouse

Love a wintry moment at the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse! Elliot and I took a little weekend getaway to the Keweenaw last weekend, not knowing we were heading into an epic snowstorm, oof, but… we made it there and back alive! I told him, I just always have to assume I’ll be in a crazy snowstorm if I visit the Keweenaw in the winter months, lol, it happens every single time. But we had a great weekend overall, stayed in Eagle River, got to see the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse, have some delicious cocktails and food, and spend a little time in Houghton grabbing breakfast and coffee, checking out a shop, and snapping a photo in front of the lift bridge before heading home to Marquette! ❄️

The first time I saw the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse was in 2016… so almost ten years later, here I am! It’s so fun to see how much life has changed for the better. In those ten years, having moved to the Upper Peninsula, healing some very broken hearts and pasts along the way, finding home in this peninsula and in myself, my friends, my community, and then… the cherry on top of Elliot and the timing of it all. Really grateful to be where I am today, just… who knew? Life is so incredible that way. But this lighthouse is one of my favorites, it’s just beautiful, in every season… maybe even more so in winter with the blue of the water and the ice against the white snow. Just stunning! It was a little treacherous getting back here, we parked down the hill, trudged through snow, and had to help two guys push their car out, but worth it for these views! ❄️

But the weekend was lovely overall! I didn’t really get photos from the whole weekend, so just decided to do a solo blog post on the lighthouse itself, but I always post on my IG and stories of the full weekend. But we stayed at The Fitz, which was good! Just an interesting time of year, so wintry, and hard to get in and out of there a bit… and then it was also so busy, really glad we made reservations for dinner. I think most everyone was staying there to go to Mount Bohemia for the weekend. But we got out to Cliff View Bar (a sister bar of The Fitz) for some delicious cocktails, got breakfast at Slim’s Cafe, cozied into our hotel room, watched movies, ate dinner there, and then the next morning ventured into Houghton to eat pannukakku (a Finnish-style custard pancake) from Suomi Diner, grab lattes from Camp Coffee and check out Down Wind Sports and snap a photo in front of the Portage Canal Lift Bridge. Already scheming to go back in summer! 🌲

Thank you Elliot for the photos!
