Detroit Lighthouse Depot

During our trip last weekend, we checked out the Detroit Lighthouse Depot. Although this isn't technically a lighthouse, it's a major part of Michigan's lighthouse history. Supply depots like this one were built in the 12 lighthouse districts in the United States. They were built to store supplies like illuminating oils, fuels, buoys, lenses and other equipment needed to maintain lighthouses. It is currently being used by the U.S. Coast Guard, but is being transferred to the city of Detroit to become a museum. It definitely looked abandoned while we were there, but there were tons of equipment for us to play on, which of course, we did. I did a little bit more research on all of the lighthouses in Michigan tonight and I have so many left to see. And so many of them are major adventures. It's definitely going to be a lifetime goal. Someday, I'll be a little old granny with a photo album of every lighthouse I ever visited. Wouldn't that be special though? :)
