The Tulip Fields

Another year in the books at the tulip fields! 🌷 Ever since I started my blog, visiting the tulip fields has been one of my favorite traditions. It’s really fun to see all the things that started and stayed in my life because of Selective Potential (seeing all of the Michigan lighthouses, the tulip fields, etc.) Yes, it makes for a pretty outfit backdrop, but it’s just become so much more meaningful than that. I love tradition, love seasonal activities, and this just checks the box in terms of… filling up my heart and soul cup! Usually I rotate between Windmill Island and Veldheer Tulip Gardens, and this year, decided to try Veldheer, because it was getting so hot, I was worried tulips were going to start to die off, and these fields usually just have more rows than Windmill Island, but next year I’ll have to rotate again just to switch it up! But yeah, beautiful as always, magical AF, what a dreamy location.

It was awesome too because I headed over there… on a weekday, after Tulip Time, so it was not busy at all. Kids were back in school, people back at work, and it was mostly just a few elderly couples walking around… and a few lingering tourists. I pretty much had the field to myself to snap photos, which was lovely! Nobody staring at me lugging my tripod around. šŸ˜† But it was sooooo hot. I’m not sure if my Yooper skin is just more sensitive these days, but it was like 80 degrees and blaring sun and I was roasting in these jeans contemplating my entire outfit decision, but thankfully I just picked up this adorable denim tank from Old Navy and that kept me a little bit cooler. Loving all of the square cropped tanks right now… so cute with jeans. I just got another from Lee & Birch that I’ll wear on the blog soon!

It’s been so lovely to be in West Michigan this week to experience spring! Getting to see the tulips is one of my favorite spring activities, but it’s been wonderful to just experience everything in bloom, it’s just sooo green out (but also, very pollen-y). But I caught up with my good friend, Mo, in Muskegon… we went out for cocktails at a new place I hadn’t been before called Liquid Assets, and I had no idea that entire building even existed! Some unique food vendors and a really cool bar inside. And then I headed over to Grand Rapids to visit with my girlfriends, drink margaritas on Donkey’s patio which is also just one of my favorite things ever. It’s been really nice to catch up with friends, see family, partake in a few traditions, pop into the office, do a little shopping, eat some favorite/unique foods I can’t get in the UP. Spring life is good down here! 🌷

If you’re planning a trip to the tulip fields, be sure to check Veldheer’s Facebook page or just look at some of the Holland webcams they have available! With the heat, and some of the storms, the tulips were starting to die off a bit, but I’m really glad I timed it out. Some years, it’s been way early, like weeks early, and other years, they bloom right in time for Tulip Time. I felt bad, I had a few people message me, ā€œWill they still be available over Memorial Day?ā€ and I was like no, they won’t be there then, this time of year is so fleeting… just like autumn colors in October, when it’s peak, you basically JUMP and you GO, hahaha. Alright, alright, I’m off. I’m going to try and squeeze in one more blog post while I’m down here, TBD, but then I’m heading back home to the great north! 🌊
